Area Trapezoid

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides. It has two bases and two legs. The area of a trapezoid can be calculated using either its diagonals or the lengths of its bases and its height. Using the diagonals, the area formula is: Area = (length of diagonal 1) × (length of diagonal 2) / 2. Using the bases and height, the area formula is: Area = 1/2 × (length of base 1 + length of base 2) × height. In the example given, the lengths of the two diagonals were 8 inches and 10 inches. Using the diagonal area formula, the area was calculated as 40 square inches.

Area Trapezoid

Area Trapezoid In Euclidean geometry, a convex quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides (see definition below) is referred to as a trapezoid in American English and as a trapezium in English outside North America. The parallel sides are called the bases of the trapezoid and the other two sides are called the legs or the lateral sides. A scalene trapezoid is a trapezoid with no equal sides or angles, in contrast to the special cases below. A trapezoid with vertices ABCD is denoted ABCD. This article uses the term trapezoid in the sense that is current in the United States (and sometimes in some other English-speaking countries). [citation needed] In all other languages using a word derived from the Greek for this figure, the form closest to trapezium (e.g. French trapze, Italian trapezio, German Trapez, Russian is used.

The first recorded use of the Greek word translated trapezoid (, trapzoeide, "table-like") was by Marinus Proclus in his Commentary on the first book of Euclid's Elements. Trapezoid is a kind of quadrilateral which has one pair of parallel sides and measure of one pair of angles is equal. We can also say that Trapezoid is a quadrilateral which has four sides. In case of trapezoid out of four one pair of sides is parallel. There are different methods to find area of trapezoid. Here we will see how to find the area of trapezoid using its diagonals. In Geometry, formula to find area of trapezoid with help of diagonals is given as: Area of trapezoid = d1. d2 / 2, here d1 and d2 represent two diagonals of trapezoid. Step 1: To find area of trapezoid first of all it is necessary to take length of both diagonals. Step 2: Now put value of length of diagonals in formula to get value of area. Lets discuss how to solve trapezoid area problems. Let length of both diagonals of trapezoid is 8 inch and 10 inch respectively. Then find area of trapezoid? Solution: Given d1 = 8 inch and d2 = 10 inch. Here we will use above mentioned steps to find the area. Formula to find area of trapezoid is given as:

Area of trapezoid = d1. d2 / 2, now put values of d1 and d2 in given formula. On putting values we get: Area of trapezoid = (8). (10) / 2, on further solving we get: Area of trapezoid = 80 / 2 = 40 inch2. This is how we calculate area of trapezoid using diagonals. We can also find area of trapezoid using height and base. Area Area of trapezoid is given by, A = 1/ 2 (a + b) h, when length of diagonals is unknown. This is all about trapezoid.
