Whats going on in our class?


Progress Reports went home on
All students who have met our goal of reading 8+ Home Reading books since the beginning of the school year are invited to attend a Cupcake Reading Party on Mon., Dec. 17 at lunch recess!

this month. Holiday Post Office (Dec. 10-20): The VandenBos Holiday Post Office will be open for business once again this year. The children in our class will have the opportunity to write letters to their friends and teachers at CMV. What a fun way to review how to write a good letter!

Reading: The Home Reading program has been very successful. Please note that when your child returns his/her book to school, he/she meets with the teacher to conference about the book before exchanging it for a new one. This may take some time when we are busy with other things. Your child may find the books somewhat easy to read aloud because we want them to focus on understanding what is being said and/or what is being

CHARACTER EDUCATION
This month we will discuss the importance of Kindness, towards ourselves and others. One way we can display this trait is by being generous towards others who are less fortunate. We will run our annual Hat & Mitten Tree and a food drive this month to help do our part.

Math: At the end of November, the


students began to learn about linear measurement (mm, cm, m, km). This month, we will also discuss and practice measuring time and temperature. Parents are reminded to encourage their child to practice telling time on a regular basis at home using both analogue and digital clocks. The children must be able to recognize time to the hour, quarter to, quarter past, half past and to the nearest minute. Strategies for determining elapsed time will also be taught. our unit about Soil this month and will begin to learn about Forces and Movement upon our return from the Christmas Break.

DURING THE WINTER BREAK


Your child is encouraged to continue reading in French over the holidays. He/she would also benefit from watching childrens TV programs and movies in French and listening to French music.

Music and Art: This month we will


study the music of the Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky. THANK YOU to all of the students who have already brought in an empty Pringles can for our Nutcracker craft! We will make this craft the afternoon of Tuesday, December 18th.

(12:30pm) wear red & green!


* On Friday, December 21st, the students and staff will be dismissed one hour earlier (1:50pm).

* Class resumes on Mon. Jan. 7, 2013!
