Technical Manual presents basic information to select our standard range of CS Series Air Handling Units. Our manual is divided into two sections. Section 1 REFERENCE DATA provides basic information enabling the unit size to be selected, the modular components to be chosen and the technical characteristics and construction features to be summarised. Section 2 TECHNICAL DATA provides technical information in the form of data sheet to enable more detailed selection to be performed to meet the precise specification requirements.

SELECTION DIAGRAM
The unit size selection is made on the basis of two parameters: the Air volume the Coil Face air velocity Each model is identified by a very simple nomenclature: for example CS-200 corresponds to the air volume of 20000 m 3 /h at 2,5 m/s coil face velocity. The Selection Diagram shows the possibility of achieving smaller or greater air volumes for the same unit by varying the coil face velocity.

On request the CS series can be equipped with: - Bulkhead lights with or without external switch - Filter manometers . The unit support is provided by : - Strong steel profiles with holes for unit lifting. - Drain pan with sandwich panel insulation. All units can be easily supplied in separate divided sections or completely knocked down for transport, site, space or erection requirements.
UNIT SECTIONS
Filter section
See our separate Filter catalogue
Fan section
Forward blade and backward blade fans . The fans are always of belt drive, double inlet type, manufactured in galvanized steel sheet, with steel shaft and ball bearings.
The fan drive is effected through belts of trapezoidal shape. The motor pulley is made from aluminium or cast iron . Fixed and variable pulleys are available . The complete fan motor assembly will be mounted on a base constructed of extruded aluminium profiles and mounted on vibration isolators . Standard vibration isolators are of rubber, with spring type available on request. The anti-vibration connection mounted between the fan outlet and the casing is made of an aluminium profile frame with self-extinguishing cloth. The foregoing characteristics apply also to the return air and exhaust air fan sections. The units with twin fans operating in parallel are equipped with non-return dampers to prevent air re-circulation in the case of one fan not running.
Sound Attenuators
This section is specifically designed for specific application requirements. The internal walls are provided with reflecting surface, manufactured in aluminium, plain or white painted finish. The tube shape lamps are installed in the required number.
Normally the internal lighting is required for the filter section, the Humidifier section and the fan section .

FANS
Determination of CS pressure drops
To determine fan characteristics it is absolutely necessary to calculate the pressure drops, expressed in Pa, of the different sections forming the unit and to add them to the required external pressure drop . It will result :
Air intake louvres Mixing box with air dampers Filter cells Roll filters Bag filters Spray humidifier Evaporating package humidifier Preheating coil Reheating coil Precooling coil After cooling coil Electric coil Other coil Plenum Absolute filters Other Required external pressure drop
Dynamic Pressure
Dynamic Pressure and outlet air velocity are calculated on the full air discharge area including that of the cut- off area, and therefore ducted outlet conditions. In the case of free outlet the velocity pressure is higher and the new value is obtained by multiplying the velocity pressure of the ducted outlet from the curves, by the correction factor K shown in the table Nr. 2 below.

Noise
The noise level shown on each diagram refers to the sound power (A filter) and the data on the inlet side has been measured in accordance with AMCA STANDARD 300 pict. 2 - configuration A. The noise levels of the fans are determined as follows: - Sound power level-(A scale):
Lw (A) as catalogue - octive band spectrum Lw = Lw (A) + Lw rel. dB (tab. 3- 4) - Sound pressure level a) free field Lp (A) = Lw (A) - (20log10 d) -11 b) room conditions Lp (A) = Lw (A) - (20log10 d) - 7 where d = is a distance of fan

DESCRIPTION
APPLICATIONS
The double inlet TA series centrifugal fans, forward curvedblade fanwheels, are naturally suited for ventilating and air conditioning systems, both civil and industrial applications , for heating and cooling units and warm air generators. This centrifugal fan series is projected for handling clean air. Discharge volumes up to 100.000 cu m/h. Static pressures up to 150 mm H2 O Temperatures up to 70 3TA/R: available up to size 18/18, single shaft with two lateral bearings. The performance of these fans, if compared to single fans, is approximately the following: Delivery : x3 Pressure : x1 RPM : x 1,08 Power : x 3,25 Max allowable fan RPM : x 0,7
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
The fans of this series are produced with particular care and structurally very rugged. The SCROLLS are made of stamped steel plates. Casing sides, cut from a single plate, are electrically welded to the scroll. A deflector plate is fixed with self tapping screws to the diffuser. The DOUBLE SECTION FANWHEELS aer sheet construction with forward curved plates. Disks and rims are well oversized. Blades are beaded or riveted to disks and rims. Each fanwheel is carefully balanced, both statically and dinamically. SHAFT and BEARINGS are produced with particular care, as far as dimensions and quality are concerned. The supports of all ball bearings are prelubrified,as to guarantee, under normal working and environmental conditions, a troubleless and longlasting operation. The FRAMES of the TA/R series are constructed with steel bars, so as to form a frame cube and are electrically welded.
ACCESSORIES
a) BASE SUPPORTS in pre-drilled heavy duty steel plate, ready for mounting in any position around the ventilator scroll in the TA/S version. Supplied with fasteners and assembly hardware. b) MOTOR SUPPORT, to be mounted in a number of positions around the fan scroll in the TA/S version, with axial and tangential motor adjustments, and regulation of transmission tension. Supplied with necessary fasteners. c) FIXED PULLEYS IN ALUMINIUM for ventilator fan shaft mounting, one groove for section A,trapezoidal belts, in aluminium for 100 - 130 - 150 - 180 pitch diameters. d) VARIABLE PITCH PULLEYS IN ALUMINIUM for motor shaft mounting, one grove for section A and B, trapezoidal belts, as to allow for an about 30% fan RPM regulation, when motor is stopped. In aluminium for the following pitch diameters: from 60 to 75 mm, from 70 to 85 mm and from 92 to 113 for section "A" belts from 63 to 79 mm, from 73 to 95 mm and from 100 to 130 for section "B " belts N.B.: section " A " = 13x8 mm section " B " = 17x11 mm e) MOTOR MOUNTS for fan case mounted motors in the TA/R and 2 TA/R versions, with motor axial and tangential adjustments. Supplied with necessary fasteners. f) VIBRATION DAMPER, produced from a glass- neoprene material fastened two galvanized steel strips. Maximum operating temperature allowed is 95C. To be mounted when the fan has to be thouroughly insulated from ducts, as to avoid all interferences and subsequent noises and vibrations. g) DRIVE SAFETY GUARD CARTERS - The employment of safety carter guards to be mounted as beltdrive protection is recommended as to eliminate whatever risk of injuries to personnel. h) COMMON MOTOR AND FAN MOUNTING BASE. i) BASE VIBRATION DAMPERS to cut down transmission of vibrations between the fan and the supporting frame. Thus, the fan is completely insulated from its foundations.
FINISHES
Zinc plated finish: for high corrosion resistance. Special finish: series TA/R with aluminium scroll.
TYPES AVAILABLE
The following types of series TA centrifugal fans are produced and available: TA/S: includes 11 types, from 7/7 to 18/18, with discharge capacities of up to 18.000 cu m/h and static heads of up to 80 mm H2 O These models have been designed to meet maximum simplicity and economy requirements, without giving up precision or strength. TA/R: available in 20 sizes from 7/7 to 30/28 with discharge capacities of up to 60.000 cu m/ h, and static heads of up to 80 mm H2 O for 1stclass fans and 150 mm H2 O for 2nd class fans (see characteristic diagrams). The fans of this series are mounted in a frame, allowing for orientation in 4 directions. 2TA/R: available up to size 30/28, single shaft with two lateral bearings. Performance of these fans, in comparison to single fans is approximately the following: Delivery :x2 Pressure :x1 RPM : x 1,05 Power : x 2,15 Max allowable fan RPM : x 0,7
EXAMPLE
HOW TO USE THE DIAGRAMS a) Performance curves refer to double intake fans.
The following information is reported on the performance charts:
discharge volume in cu m/h - logarithmic scale discharge volume in cv m/sec - logarithmic scale static pressure in mm H2 O logarithmic scale velocity pressure in mm H2 O - logarithmic scale outlet velocity in m/sec. - logarithmic scale 1st and 2nd class boundary delivery -pressure curves delivery-pressure curves revolutions per minute RPM logarithmic scale brake horsepower curves noise level curves fan wheel diameter number of blades peripheral speed blade surface RPM speed limits for the two classes maximum installed power fan weight
Revolutions per minute
b) Sample of calculation. Assuming a double intake centrifugal fan has to be selected to meet the following requirements: volume (Q) : 3.400 cu m/h static head (p. st.) 35 mm H2O
Starting from point A, corresponding to the 3.400 cu m/h required, continue upwards vertically and cross at point X the horizontal line draw to B, in correspondence to a static head pressure of 35 mm H2O On the TA 10/10 diagram the following fan characteristics can be directly read off: revolutions per minute n = 1170 R.P.M. brake hors power P inst = 0,75 metric H.P. total efficency T = 0,65 discharge velocity VU = 10 m/s velocity pressure P din = 6 mm H2O noise level LA = 72 dBA

AIR FLOW
As for the steam and direct expansion coils, the instructions on the data plates are to be followed. An air vent should be installed in the pipework to each water coil . When tightening coil connections, ensure that the coil pipe is held rigid, thus avoiding damage to header .
Handling for transportation 1) Units which are provided with support feet : Unit handling can be effected by fork lift truck or ropes as shown in figure
Maintenance Instructions
Normal Maintenance
2) Units which are provided with a profile base in which there are holes for hooks to take tubes or lifting ropes are handled as shown in figure .

that the drive levers are cleaned and greased annually. Air filters: To be checked and replaced periodically according to the dust content of the air . Metal Filter Cell: To be cleaned with hot water and cleansing agents, or with a caustic soda bath. It will be necessary to spray the cells with mineral oil to ensure efficient operation . Washable Synthetic Material Cells: These filter cells may be cleaned as follows: - By simple shaking - By vacuum cleaner, in this case it is more effective if the suction device is positioned on the air inlet side. - By water spray, (avoiding strong pressure jets) and spraying from the air inlet side. - By water spray, (avoiding strong pressure jets) and spraying from the air inlet side. Auto Roll and Bag Filters: Follow specific factory maintenance instructions Absolute Filters: Check cells are correctly assembled on frame and airtight. The cells are not washable. Follow factory service instructions. Air treatment Coils: It is advisable to purge the pipe of air occasionally. To avoid fouling, it is advisable to clean each coil with water jets at the beginning of summer and winter seasons. If this proves insufficient we suggest the use of a brush or a proprietary brand of chemical agent to be applied as instructed . Humidification Section: With pump and spray header we recommend every month : - To clean the nozzles and check that the spray forms a regular cone . - To clean the copper/stainless steel mesh water filter with a brush . - To clean the pan from slimy impurities using water jet and brush every six months . Evaporating package when cleaning, the following instructions apply : - Stop the pump, shut the check valve and wait for the air flow to dry the evaporating package. - To remove slimy deposits wash down the package with water. - Take off and clean the water filter with a common brush. - Wash the pan and overflow pipe.
