Description Opened in 1939, Bank of Ceylon is the largest bank in Sri Lanka, owning nearly 30% of banking assets in the country. It is backed by the Government of Sri Lanka and provides a wide range of domestic and international financial services.
Peoples Bank is the second largest bank in Sri Lanka and has relationships with more than 25% of households in the country. Its main intent is to provide access to financial services for the rural and poor populations in Sri Lanka. Currently the bank is focusing on modernising, restructuring and improving the efficiency of its operations.
HNB has been involved in microfinance activities since the latter part of the 1970's and continues to play an aggressive role in this crucial aspect of national development.
Seylan Bank was incorporated in 1987 with the mission to be the premier provider of financial services beyond customer expectations, maximising mutual prosperity.

SANASA Development Bank is a public limited liability company incorporated in 1997. Its mission is to serve as the apex credit institution of the Thrift and Credit Coopererative Societies (TCCS). Description Agbopura TCCS is registered with Central Bank of Sri Lanka and is connected to the Ceylinco Group. This organisation was established in the year 2000 and provides credit facilities, self employment opportunities, insurance facilities and other services to the people of the area.
This organisation is registered under the Co-operative Department of the Central Province and was established in the year 2000. Its principal activities include facilitating savings and credit and promoting the economic and social development of the people.
This organisation commenced operations in 1986 and was registered under the Social Services Department in 1991. It operates in most of the villages in the Hambantota District.
Established in the year 1980, the Matara TCCS is registered under the Co-operative Department. It has 12 branches across the district and mobilizes savings and provides credit to people who are in need of financial assistance. This society is funded by certain government organisations in Sri Lanka. The society is also involved in social service, environmental and training programs.
WeranketagodaTCCS was established in 1986 and is registered under the Ampara Provincial Council as well as with the Co-operative Department. The society is involved in handling savings of people in the region, providing microcredit and promoting self employment opportunities. The organisation is funded by its shareholders and the Ministry of Finance.

Description
Agro Micro Finance was formed in the year 2002 and is the second specialized NGO-MFI in Sri Lanka after SEEDS.The institution was formed by transfering the microfinance activities and portfolio of Agromart. It provides savings and credit facilities to Agromart clients as well as others. The current operational network is in the districts of Puttalam, Kurunegala, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Moneragala and Ampara.
Arthacharya Foundation is a national NGO operating in 10 districts of the country. Microfinance is the main activity. A unique feature of the Foundation is that environment conservation is used as an entry point for poverty reduction. The organization is represented on many national and international forums such as the World Bank and ADB consultative committees on poverty and NGO affairs.
Community Oriented Resource Exchange was started in the year 1982 and is registered with the Social Services Department. The organization is involved in many programmes including health, mocro-credit, etc. The organisation is funded by international agencies such as UNDP and also local authorities such as the Ministry of Finance.
The DRC is a humanitarian umbrella organisation consisting of 30 Danish NGOs. It was established in 1956 for the purpose of helping refugees in Denmark and internationally. In Sri Lanka, the DRC undertakes activities aimed supporting the return and resettlement of internally displaced persons at individual, household an community level. Presently the DRC works in Vavuniya, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Trincomalee Districts.

Katandola Woman Development Society is registered with the Social Services Department. The society was established in 1996 and its main activities include facilitating credit and savings, social welfare, childrens savings and the welfare of elderly people.
Lakjaya Thrift and Credit Foundation Ltd is non-bank financial institution established in 2002. Sewalanka Foundation was founded in 1993 as a development NGO with a clear mandate to address the needs of the most vulnerable communities in the most neglected and disadvantaged regions of Sri Lanka. Uva Govijana Kendraya was established in 1991 and covers 09 Grama Niladari Divisions in the Divisional Secretaries Divisions of Ella, Bandarawela and Welimada in the Badulla District. UGK, which commenced its community activities with start up grants from NORAD and SLCDF, is registered as a Voluntary Social Services Organisation with the Divisional Secretary Bandarawela as well as the District Secretary Badulla.
Wellassa Development Forum is registered under the Social Services Department and was established in 1990. Its principal activities are related to community development and banking. Enterprise development training has been a core service offering of SLBDC since its inception in 1984. SLBDC is a leading partner organization of both the GTZ CEFE program and the ILO/Start and Improve your Business project. SLBDCs enterprise development activities are aimed at providing direction and guidance to individuals aspiring to set up or expand micro and small enterprises and also cater to the needs of existing micro and small enterprises. SLBDC also offers Human Resource Development Services and undertakes special consultancy assignments ranging from broad macro level policy studies to more detailed micro level analyses of issues relevant to business and industry.
