On Wednesday, May 22nd the following Graduates will be honored at a potluck dinner at 5:30 and during the worship service at 6:15. Living the Story with Pastor Jeni

As you know, my husband, Colin, is the pastor at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville. He recently wrote a piece for the local newspaper that I thought was worth passing on. He writes about an image of Easter as new life. I hope you enjoy his words as much as I do. Peace, Pastor Jeni Yesterday my wife, Jeni, and I were at the hospital for an ultrasound. Were 20 weeks through our pregnancy. There are a lot of great things about the weeks before Easter: the season of Lent, Holy Week, the journey to the cross that leads us finally on Easter Sunday to the empty tomb. But, this year we were also anxiously awaiting this appointment because we were so excited to see our baby! In one of Peters letters, this is exactly how Paul talks about what this Easter promise means for us. 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Have you ever noticed how a baby just grabs us? Eyes turn, smiles crack, even big tough guys suddenly find their tender side. Is it because of the hope and potential she represents? She hasnt been beaten up. Shes only known love and promise. She hasnt known a dark night of the soul. Is that why a cute baby or toddler can bring us so much joy? As I looked at the picture on that ultrasound I couldnt help but wonder: Who will she meet? What work will she find to do with her hands? Possibility. Birth. What would it be like to have everything before you and nothing behind you? Of all the images one of the first Christians tapped into about resurrection was new birth. It isnt just for babies, it is how they understood what God was doing at that empty tomb. It is about a fresh slate, a new day, the next day of creation. What ever has become a rut. What ever weve had to resign ourselves to because it has become just the way it is. Tomorrow doesnt have to be just like today. Tomorrow can be a new day. Our hope for daily renewal, our hope for tomorrow, and the tomorrow after that comes from the new birth of resurrection! PSIts a girl!

Over Coffee with Kris

I have never pretended to have a green thumb. I always appreciate beautiful gardens and fresh fruit and vegetables, but I am just no good at doing it myself. That is why I find it ironic that one of my new songs that I have been listening to lately is called Take Up Your Spade by Sara Watkins. I had the privilege to hear her on the cruise I went on with my dad this past January. You may recognize her as a regular on Prairie Home Companion. Here are the lyrics to the song. Council Minutes

Due to conflicting schedules, the council was not able to meet in person this month. Working items:

1. Don Lein will be stepping down from depositing funds at the bank. We thank him for his service. In the interim, Lois Blattenbauer has agreed to make the deposit. Pam suggested making a receipt for when cash and check come in as well as dual control in opening mail. Kris or Jeni can open mail with Lois. 2. Jeff has been working on our insurance checklist, making sure we're complying with their standards by or near April 18th. He has installed Exit Signs with emergency lights, and other lights that will stay on in the event that we lose power during a gathering. He is organizing a workday to hang sheet rock in the storage area under the ramp. The council will work on policies that we may adopt as a congregation. Thank you Jeff! 3. We received a generous memorial from and are in discussion for how to use it. Were doing well in the General Fund. 4. The kitchen was used for the Dollars for Scholars dinner. Wanda was there. This fits within our mission to be a community church. 5. Update on the Jade McGough Lent Dinner: We raised a good amount! 6. Jeni, Jeff and Pam met to discuss Parental Leave, including length of time and who will fill in. The Synod has recommended names for that time. Pastors Report: A great, and active month at GLC Worship, Preaching, Preparation + Preached and/or presided at Worship March 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 28, 29 and 31 (we saw almost 700 people between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday). + Prepared Bulletins, Sermons for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, & Easter Sunday Pastoral Tasks and Visits + Attended to the daily prayers of the church + Visited one person in a care facility + 2 Home Visits + Made and received many pastoral phone calls + Visited with people at church Faith Formation + Participated in/Led Faith formation for Pre-K through 4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th each week + Made Communion Bread with our lovely 5th graders. Thanks to our volunteers: Sally Tanner, Val Arends, and Alexis Lara Other + Participated in my own Spiritual Direction + Attended: a Boys JV & Varsity Basketball game,

Dancelines Annual Guy-Girl Dance (03/01); Dinner at Concordia and a public lecture by Paul Raushenbusch, from HuffPost Religion; Breakfast and chapel at Concordia with Lutheran World Relief Vice-President, Dan Lee. Family Ministers Report: Faith Formation + Prepared Sunday School and Wednesday School lessons and opening/closings. + Prepared Connect for 6th graders. + Prepared and executed Fed and Forgiven a new (and great) First Communion curriculum for the 5th graders. + Helped prepare and executed Faith Formation on the 10 Commandments for the 7th and 8th graders. + Made/ate lunch with the 9th graders with Pastor Jeni. Shopped for and helped make Wednesday Night dinner with the 9th graders and Pastor Jeni. + Helped organize and shop for the Palm Sunday breakfast. + Ran errands. Worship + Assisted in worship on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings and during Holy Week. + Assisted Pastor Jeni on Maundy Thursday 03/28, Good Friday 03/29 and both Easter services 03/31. Other + Organized the Butter Braids fundraiser for the Houseboat and Camp youth. + Attended Quilting (03/05). + Lead Area Youthworker Lunch (03/21). + Attended Esther Circle (03/21). + Attended a Boys JV and Varsity Basketball game along with the Dancelines Annual Guy-Girl Dance (03/01). + Attended the Varsity Girls Basketball section game at Concordia (03/02). + Attended a breakfast and chapel at Concordia with Lutheran World Relief Vice-President, Dan Lee. + Attended a Pathways at the Park meeting to plan for the annual fundraiser (03/25). Synod Work + Attended Synod Staff Meeting + Synod Youth Gathering + Meetings, emails, contracts, meetings with facility hosts, Planning worships, writing devotions, writing educational pieces, Hospitality, errands, etc. Next council meeting will be held on Wednesday May 8th at 7:30 pm.
