Purpose of the job: We are seeking a number of enthusiastic and committed hourly-paid workers to provide support to students with disabilities, medical conditions, mental health difficulties and specific learning difficulties. As a Note Taker you will support a students learning by providing clear and accurate notes as a record of lectures and seminars. Students may have difficulty taking notes for a number of different reasons, for example sight or hearing impairments or because writing is difficult and painful. Notes are essential tools for learning and revision in higher education, therefore the work of a Note Taker provides crucial support. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Attend a mandatory training session prior to commencing work with Student Disability Advice 2. To attend and take notes in lectures as allocated by the Disability Support Co-ordinator 3. Ensure notes are clear and identify the key points and information relevant to the student. 4. To check format of notes with each student after first note-taking session and agree format/quality required 5. To review notes at the end of each lecture and ensure they are in a suitable accessible format for the student e.g. large print/typed 6. Ensure all timesheets are completed with Randstad on a weekly basis 7. To commit to provide notes for the whole semester and inform Student Disability Advice in a timely fashion if you are unable to attend due to illness etc 8. Ensure confidentiality of a students personal information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and the Student Services confidentiality policy 9. Refer any concerns about a students welfare to the Disability Support Co-ordinators 10. Adhere to training and guidelines provided to you and to attend sessions to update your skills as required. 11. Engage in work review sessions where necessary
These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will be required to undertake. They may be amended from time to time to meet changing circumstances and do not form part of a contract of employment
Special Conditions: Hours of work are negotiated to accommodate the needs of the student You will need to be able to commit to this role for the entire academic semester.
Examples of skills and knowledge required: Degree in a relevant subject area, for example be able to follow specific scientific or mathematical information and identify the key information IT skills (all timesheets will be completed online) Able typist where typed notes are required.
