    Proposal Roads are dangerous to cyclists. Most motorist are miseducated about cyclist and thinks that cyclist should not be on the road. For your information, there are about 104 houses along the propose street. There are approximately 30 children below 18 years old rides their bicycles around the housing area and around Rancha-Rancha every day. With that said, I would like to propose for a cycling path all along the main street of Taman Tan Boon Haw of Jalan RanchaRancha, Labuan. Are cycling lanes a good thing? The answer to that question is YES. This is because the safety of our children is our number one concern. In order to ensure that our children will be safe while cycling, we propose that a bicycle lane is the best option for children to cycle to school and resident to cycle to town. We are devising a comprehensive proposal, with the safety of the cyclists in mind. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said that cyclist too needed to practice all safety precautions often made mandatory for motorcyclists. Therefore, take the maximum precaution and use the necessary safety gear as well he said during an interview with New Strait Times. As we all know, cycling is a good and healthy lifestyle. There are more cyclist, young and old, pursing this healthy lifestyle enter and exit. However, cycling on our roads can be dangerous! We often find it risky and unsafe on our roads and fear of being knocked down by a moving vehicle. Many people are put off cycling by this perceived risk. Anything that gets people to cycle instead of driving cars and motorcycles or other form of vehicle has to be good. So, if there is a cycling lane as we propose, it will certainly encourage people to get out cycling. Hence, reducing the numbers of cars on the road and traffic congestion during peak hours.

    Beside cyclist, there are also others whom benefit from the proposed cycling lane. Such as, Pedestrian. They could walk and play on the curb side of the sidewalks. A safe space for wheelchair users to maneuver themselves without any heavy traffic. It will be a transit zone for other motorist to pull over next to the lanes and drop someone which makes it easier, safer and efficient ( especially on rainy days). Furthermore, a cycling lanes would be a good reminder for other motorist that they are not the only roadway users. Closure To conclude our proposal for a bicycle lane along our housing area, we sincerely hope that the right authority will consider in approving our proposal. It is our hope that these bicycle lanes will one way or another educate the public on traffic and the safety rules of cyclist, and join hands with us in campaign to publicize bicycle lanes and encourage residents and school children to cycle. After all, cycling is actually better than driving because it saves time, saves petrol, reduces carbon monoxide and it is healthier.
