@ The Westfield Washington Public Library: Building Project Update
September 2013
As you can see, there has been a lot of progress on the building project over the last few weeks. The most noticeable change outside has been the construction of the exterior walls for the new lower level community room (top). There have also been a few smaller projects started inside, including tearing out the blue bulkhead at the south end of the Childrens Department (right) so that they can put up a temporary wall (bottom right). Now they will remove the exterior wall and begin expanding that area for the new Young Adult Department. Weve been cleaning out offices and storage closets (above), rearranging furniture, and relocating books in preparation for additional indoor projects. New study rooms in the Adult area are slated to be done before work starts on the circulation/lobby area.

The library board voted to advertise the 2014 budget as presented. The Public Hearing will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in the Sumner Room. Phil Passen from Meyer Najem gave the library board a construction update. Due to unforeseen groundwater issues, drainage tile was added below basement slab, the elevator pit was waterproofed and downspouts will be routed to the pond outlet. A unique lagging system was installed and the first floor structure will be installed before the area can be back filled. Distractions will increase as inside work continues. We are to contact Troy if there is something we need to address.

Friends of the Westfield Library September Book Sale - Special Pricing Event!
Friends Board:
Sara Reitmeyer, President Jeanette Wachtel, Treasurer Marie Albertson, Secretary Carly Schull, Member-at-Large Due to the building project, weve had our book sale tables set up since the beginning of June. Although we were adding more material as space allowed, we have stopped restocking at this point as we have put out all that we have left. The tables will have to be moved soon and any items that arent purchased will have to be recycled because we have nowhere to put those that dont sell (see picture on front page of our empty Friends Room). To make sure that all of the books, CDs, etc., go to a good home, we will be having a special pricing event during the second week of September when our book sale would normally be scheduled.
The Friends of the Westfield Library is an organization designed to promote and support the mission of the Westfield Washington Public Library. Through its fundraising efforts, primarily book sales held in the library and online, the group raises money used to fund library programs and to purchase items that are not in the library's operating budget.
However, there will be no preview sale on Friday, September 6, as books have been on display for a few weeks already.
Special Pricing Event starts Monday, September 9 and runs through Sunday, September 15!
The specifics of the special pricing will be revealed on Monday morning. Will there be a certain percent off everything? A free gift with purchase? A buyone-get-one sale? Come in or follow our facebook page to find out!
