    Technical Supplement 26261 EGS-01 Monitoring Software Quick Guide to Installation and Start-up

    This document is provided as a supplement to Woodwards EGS-01 Installation, Commissioning, and Monitoring Manual, number 36139. Reference Chapter 3. This document is intended for use only in Caterpillar G3500A applications.

    System Requirements
    The EGS monitoring program is a DOS-based service tool. Please read the following requirements before attempting to install and use the software. For EGS monitoring, your system must meet the following system requirements: PC, Pentium or faster A straight or 1:1 cable with 9-pin sub-D female connectors on both ends An available serial communication port A floppy disk drive DOS 6.0 and Windows 95/98 Additional Requirements: The EGS monitoring program must be run in MS-DOS mode, NOT in DOS within Microsoft Windows. The program will run on a PC with Windows 95 or 98 since these operating systems support MS-DOS. The program will run on a PC with Windows 2000 or higher if both of the following conditions are met: o The hard drive must be formatted in FAT32. To check this, go to My Computer, select Local Disk and view the properties (file->properties). File system should read FAT32. o A boot disk must be used to boot into Windows 95 or 98. If these requirements are unfamiliar, contact a system administrator for support.

    Software Installation
    The floppy disk included contains the necessary files for successful operation of the EGS monitoring software. Included are: Egs.exeThe self-extracting executable file. Install.batDOS batch file for installation. Follow this install procedure: 1. Begin in Windows and insert the diskette into your floppy drive. 2. Start Windows Explorer and go to drive A. 3. Run Install.bat. 4. When the command prompt window opens, verify the file extraction process. 5. You are now finished with the install.

    Engine & EGS Install and Setup Notes


    Before the monitor program can be started, the engine must be installed and wired. 40-pin connector at rear of engine connects to the interconnect harness. Wire the opposite end of the interconnect harness to the EGS controller (wires should be numbered). Connect all shields to the ground lug on the EGS case. The RS-232 connector coming from the engine harness is to communicate directly with the TecJet valve and should NOT be connected to the EGS. After the engine is installed and wiring is complete, turn on power to the engine. If everything is wired correctly, you will see two green LEDs on the EGS illuminate along with one red LED. Connect the 9-pin serial cable from the EGS controller to the PC.

    Run the EGS Monitor Program


    From Windows 95/98 1. If the computer is in Windows, go to start->shutdown and select start up in MS dos mode. If the computer is off, power it up and press F8 during the booting period to start in MS-DOS. 2. If the C:\WINDOWS prompt appears, type in: <cd ..> and hit <enter>. 3. When the C:\ prompt appears, type <300> (without < & >) and hit <enter>. 4. When prompted for username, type <SUPERVISOR> and hit <enter>. No password is required. 5. A screen will pop up and ask you to go online or not. Choose YES (use the <tab> key or press <Y> or go with the mouse to YES and left click. 6. Refer to the EGS-01 Installation, Commissioning, and Monitoring Manual for information on menus and further operation. From Windows 2000 1. After you have made sure your hard drive is formatted in FAT32, insert the Windows 95 or 98 boot disk. 2. If the computer is in Windows, go to start->shutdown and select restart. If the computer is off, simply power it up with the boot disk in the drive. 3. Follow steps 26 above. Any unauthorized modifications to or use of this equipment outside its specified mechanical, electrical, or other operating limits may cause personal injury and/or property damage, including damage to the equipment.
