Learning Outcomes Learners will increase their understanding and appreciation of the necessary skills required to become a successful collaborative songwriter.

Assignment Song writing Project Each week you will take part in a tutor led workshop, where you will discuss a particular style/genre in the form of a music industry pitch and how to effectively write for it including stylistic traits, lyrical content, instrumentation, form and production. During the workshop you will work with the tutors to create a song idea from scratch. Once you have an idea of the approach you will break out into your band groups and start working on your pitch, ensuring that you always follow the brief carefully remember you are writing for someone else, so you must keep an open mind in your approach, regardless of whether you are familiar with the style or not. You will have two 1.5 hour rehearsals to get your ideas down to a performable standard. You will then perform in front of the rest of the year group and receive both tutor and peer feedback on your pitch. The time restrictions mean that you cant be too picky about the direction you go in, when you find a good idea, run with it!

Written Project Part 1. Once you have completed your pitch you will be required to write up and submit a how to guide each week using Word. You should include information on your choices within the group, explaining and analysing the reasons behind these choices.

Part 2. Towards the end of the induction assignment you will be required to present your findings from each week as a band by creating a collaborative Powerpoint presentation.
