Experiment 1 USING THE DIGITAL TRAINER The digital trainer board is a very useful tool in testing and evaluating digital circuits. As described in the introduction, the board is equipped with eight data outputs and eight data monitors, a clock pulse output, a clock signal generator, a 3-LED indicator logic probe, and a 5Volt power supply. Inter connections between circuits nodes are accomplished by using the solid jumper wires (AWG 22). The jumpers should be insulated for safety. They should be of various lengths with the exposed tip of about 1 cm to allow secure connections. It is advisable to have jumper wires of different lengths to facilitate connections at different tie points. EXPERIMENT Materials: Digital trainer with jumper wires Initially, turn off the power to the board before interconnecting the points. Switch off data switches D1 to D8 to low position. Installing or removing jumpers while the power is ON may or may not damage some components, however, turning the power off before changing connections is the recommended norm. PROCEDURE 1. Connect jumpers form the DATA OUTPUT pins to the DATA INPUT pins. ON OFF D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6 D7 D8 DATA INPUT

2. Turn the POWER switch on. Switch on (up position) the data switches (D1 to D8) one at a time. What happens to the data status indicators LED 1 to LED 8? All the Data status indicators LED1 to LED8 turned on.
3. Place a jumper from OUT1 pin of the OUTPUT PULSE to the input of the LOGIC PROBE shown,

4. What logic is indicated by the logic probe? LOW logic level. 5. Press the PULSE1 switch. What happens to the logic probe LED indicators? When pulse 1 is press the LED 1 blinks for a short period of time while LED 2 produces light in a stable manner. 6. Place a jumper from OUT2 pin of the OUTPUT PULSE to the input of thee LOGIC PROBE is shown.

7. What logic level is indicated by the logic probe? LOW logic level.
8. Press the PULSE2 switch. What happens to the logic probe LED indicators? When pulse 2 button is pressed five times the light switches from LED 2 to LED 1. 9. Transfer the connection to the LOGIC probe from the OUTPUT PULSE pin to the OUT pin of the CLOCK PULSE. 10. Set the range switch to the LOW position setting and adjust the CLOCK FREQUENCY fine control to minimum (full counterclockwise turn). Describe what happens to the LOGIC PROBE indicators. The LED 1 and LED 2 simultaneously changing lights slowly. 11. Flip S12 to HIGH (up position). Slowly adjust the CLOCK FREQUENCY control to maximum. Describe what happens to the LOGIC PROBE indicators. When the clock frequency is at maximum, the LED 1 and LED 2 are both steadily lights up. 12, Write a short description of the functions of the different modules of the digital trainer. Digital trainer can check whether the circuit has proper connections and the lights can show the output of different circuit for their function.
ANALYSIS: The experiment showed how the digital trainer is used. Depending on the desired output, you can manipulate the pace of the circuit through frequency. CONCLUSION: To achieve the needed results you must know how the module work independently and to decide which is more practical to use in the given situation.
