Defining Jobs

A plumber is a person who fits and repairs the pipes and provides water supply, sanitation, or heating system to a house or building. A florist is a person who sells and arranges cut flowers. A shop-assistant is a person who serves people in a shop. A factory worker is a person who works in a factory. A reporter is a person who reports news or conducts interviews for the press or broadcasting media. A vet is a qualified person who treats diseases and injuries of farm and domestic animals. A doctor is a person who is qualified to treat people who are ill. A baker is a person who makes and sells bread and cakes. A policeman is a male member of a police force. He is responsible for the prevention and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order. A porter is a person employed to carry luggage and other loads, especially in a railway station, airport, hotel, or market. A telephonist is an operator of a switchboard responsible for making, answering and connecting phone calls. A manager is a person responsible for controlling or administering an organization or group of staff. A secretary is a person employed by an individual or in an office to assist with correspondence, make appointments, and carry out administrative tasks. A lawyer is a person who practises or studies law and represents people in a court. A waitress is a woman whose job is to serve customers at their tables in a restaurant. A driver is a person who drives a vehicle. A gardener is someone whose job is to work in gardens, growing flowers and plants. A professor is a university teacher. A nurse is a person trained to care for the sick or infirm, especially in a hospital. A teacher is a person who teaches, especially in a school. An electrician is a person who installs and maintains electrical equipment.

A receptionist a person who greets and deals with clients and visitors to a surgery, office, etc. A steward is a person who looks after the passengers on a ship, aircraft, or train. A computer technician is a person employed to look after computers in a laboratory, firm or industry. A researcher is a person who investigates and studies materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. A dentist is a person who is qualified to treat diseases and other conditions that affect the teeth and gums. A street cleaner is a person that cleans streets. An actor is a person whose profession is acting on the stage, in films, or on television. A singer is a person who sings, especially professionally. A butcher is a person whose trade is cutting up and selling meat in a shop. An architect is a person who designs buildings and in many cases also supervises their construction. A judge is a public officer appointed to decide cases in a law court. A mechanic is a skilled worker who repairs and maintains vehicle engines and other machinery. A pilot is a person who operates the flying controls of an aircraft. A mason is a person skilled in cutting, dressing, and laying stone in buildings. A bricklayer is a person whose job is to build walls, houses, and other structures with bricks. A dressmaker is a person whose job is making womens clothes. A tailor is a person whose job is making mens clothes. A fisherman is a person who catches fish for a living or for sport. A politician is a person who is professionally involved in politics, especially as a holder of an elected office. A scientist is a person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more of the natural or physical sciences.
