HSBC Interview Guide
HSBC Interview Guide
Following your successful completion of the on line assessment, you may be invited to attend a values based telephone interview, assessing you against some of the important criteria we are looking for. If we invite you to have a telephone interview, remember that you'll need to put in the same kind of preparation and involvement as if it were face-to-face. The values based telephone interview is a relatively short interview conducted by phone. It should last between 45-60 minutes as a rough guide and includes time to receive the results and verbal feedback, if you wish to receive it. It will be conducted by a third party accredited specialist interviewer and will include open ended questions around HSBC Values of dependable, open and connected. For example "Tell me about a time when ...". In answering the questions, you have the opportunity to share examples of when you have demonstrated HSBCs Values. We will ask you to tell us about specific occasions when you have demonstrated your openness, connection and dependability. Think of at least one strong example for each value. These can be drawn from your personal, work, or academic experiences In Open, we expect you to be honest and straight talking. To treat others with respect and fairness. To listen to their ideas, show genuine appreciation of their needs and collaborate effectively for the benefit of the team. In Connected, we expect you to build relationships with customers, colleagues and the community in which you work. To empathise with others, take care to understand the impact you have on them, and act with their best interests at heart. In Dependable, we expect you to be committed to quality in everything you do. You take accountability for the results you deliver, and you can always be relied on to stand up for the right course of action, even in challenging circumstances. Your invitation to attend the telephone interview will include instructions on how you can use the self service system to set up the interview at a time that suits you. To help you prepare for the interview, follow these top tips:
Self-schedule the interview at a time that suits you and make sure that you have a quiet area to make the call from with no distractions. If you are going to use your mobile phone to take the call, please ensure it has enough battery life. Be available at the time agreed for the interview. Prepare at least one strong example for each value. These can be drawn from your personal, work, or academic experiences. Use the STAR format to articulate your examples: Situation what was the overall situation Task what was the specific task required of you Action what steps did you personally take (avoid "we" and reference what you did "I") Result what happened / changed after your actions.
Bear in mind that you won't be able to make eye contact or use body language as you would in a face-to-face interview. So it's very important that you listen carefully and speak clearly, politely and confidently. Provide direct and honest answers Naturally, we understand that you may need some time to think through your answers. So it is ok to pause for a moment At the end of the telephone interview you will be advised if you have met the required criteria and will be offered verbal feedback. This feedback can be a valuable tool to help you with your ongoing development.
