DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF MORONG Population Historical Growth of the Population The earliest census of population conducted in 1903 showed

that the Municipality of Morong is the third most populated municipality among Rizals 14 towns. Morong accounted for % of the total provincial population in 1903 but as the years passed, this proportion declined as other towns with faster growth rates accounted for the bigger share of Rizals provincial population. In a span of 15 years from 1903-1918, Morongs population grew at an average annual growth of 2.7%. Subsequent decades showed accelerated growth rates from 1.8 % for the period 1939 to 1948, 3.85 % from 1960 to 1970 and almost 3.1% in the 70s. In the 80s the population rages from 2.94%. However, in the last decade, Morongs population slightly dipped to 2.7 % from 2000 to 2007. Population Size and Growth Rates The August 2007 NSO Census indicated that Morong had a population of 50,538, representing 2.21% of the provincial population. In 2000, it had a population of 42,489 representing 2.5% of the provincial population. Morong was among the least populated municipalities of the province ranking 5th from the least populated. For the period 2000 to 2007, Morongs population grew at 15.9%. The municipality exhibited an average annual growth rate of 2.3% while that of the provinces is 3.6%. Among Rizals component Local Government Units (LGUs), Cardona had the fifth lowest population growth rate in the last decade.

Age-Sex Structure Morong has a very young population, majority of which belong to the 5 to 19 year old brackets. This is followed by the 20 to 29 age group. The household distribution of the town of Morong in 1995 consisted of 17,938 males and 17,542 females or a ratio of almost one male for every one female or 100.4 males for every 1 00 females. The potential labor forces (or those aged 15 and over) composed 59 percent of the population of Morong. The youth group shared 38% while the elderly (65 years and over) accounted for three percent. The economic dependency ratio, on the other hand, indicates the number of dependents per 100 actually employed persons. For the town of Morong, the economic dependency ratio for 1994 was 131 persons consisting of 123 youths and eight (8) elderly dependents.

Morong has a large proportion (61.62%) of economically active and productive population aging from 15-64 years. This age group can be utilized to increase productivity in the town, given the necessary help and incentives from the local leadership. There are also a small percentage (6.16%) of old people above 65 years old, which mean less demand for health services. There is, however, a significant proportion (34.23%) of young children 14 years old and below that would need educational services. There is a slightly greater percentage of females compared to males (50.15% vs. 49.85%), a ration that also reflects the national distribution. Among the economically active ages of 15 to 64 years in age, females still have a slightly higher percentage (31.14% vs. 30.48%).
