Arnold Spirit, called Junior, a 14-year-old Indian boy living on the rez of the Spokane Indians !e "as born "ith "ater on the brain #scar "as his dog and one of his best friends #scar "as really sick and Junior$s fa%ily couldn$t afford veterinary care So Junior$s father shoot into #scar and kill hi% Junior "as really angry and sad &o"dy is Junior$s best friend they "ere together since they "ere born 'hese t"o best friends "ent to po""o" and there Junior "as kicked by so%e guys &o"dy %ake a little revenge and cut braids and eyebro"s to those guys &o"dy al"ays protect Junior Junior is at school one day and finds his %other$s na%e "ritten in a geo%etry te(tbook Infuriated, he thro"s the book at his teacher, )r * and he "as suspended because of that )r * encourages Junior to leave the reservation Junior takes )r * advice and he asked his parents to go to school "here "ere +ust "hite kids in &eardan !is parents agree "ith that idea Junior doesn$t "ant to go alone so he asked &o"dy to co%e "ith hi% &o"dy "as so upset that he punched Junior in the face 'hey beco%e %ore ene%ies than friends Junior starts &eardan !igh School and he %et blonde girl *enelope ,ventually Junior stands up to &oger and kicked hi% &oger +ust go a"ay fro% Junior and sho" respect to Junior like Junior$s grand%other said After *enelope finds out that Junior is poor they beco%e se%i-girlfriend and boyfriend Junior beco%e friends "ith a kid na%ed -ordy "ho is the school genius -ordy teaches Junior about the +oys of learning and reading books After a conversation "ith his father, Junior decides to try playing basketball .ith a little encourage%ent fro% the /oach 0uring the basketball %atch against his old school Junior gets knocked do"n by &o"dy and Junior "ent to hospital After that Junior "as faced "ith series of losses1first his grand%other is hit by so%e dead driver than ,ugene,Junior$s father best friend, has been shot in face and Junior %ake lists of things that %akes hi% happy In the re%atch against Junior$s old school &eardan !igh School "ins Junior$s sister dies in fire trailer, and at the end Junior and &o"dy are playing one-on-one basketball and they resolve everything

Arnold Spirit Junior is a fourteen-year-old boy "ho lives on the Spokane Indian &eservation !e dra"s cartoons and plays basketball in free ti%e Junior and his fa%ily, along "ith the others on the reservation are dealing "ith poverty A lot of ti%es, there is not enough food to eat in their ho%e or enough %oney for gas in the car, forcing hi% to hitchhike to school or not go at all !e is incredibly s%art and transfers to &eardan the school "ith "hite kids Rowdy is Junior$s best friend, they "ere together since they "ere little &o"dy protect Junior al%ost every ti%e And he like to read co%ics such Archie Arnolds Parents- Although they2re both alcoholics, Arnold2s parents are very supportive of his a%bitions #ne %ight attribute their support to the fact that they let their drea%s die on the reservation Mary is Junior$s sister she used to "rite ro%ace stories She "as very s%art but she +ust cannot find the +ob After high school, she did not go to college, instead she %oved to )ontana "ith her ne" husband "hich one she %et at the reservation casino Junior's Grandma nickna%ed -rand%other Spirit, is Junior$s source of advice and support She had never drink in her life She dies by so%e drunk guy "hich hit her "ith car !er last "ords "ere 34orgive hi%3, "hich %eant that she "anted her fa%ily to forgive the drunk driver Gordy is pupil going in &eardan !e and Junior beco%e good friends after -ordy discovers Junior2s intelligence in class Penelope is beautiful blonde girl "hich goes in &eardan also *enelope and Junior "ere togher little bit until she finds out that he is poor Roger is part of Junior2s ne" group of friends at his ne" school !e started out as a bully "ho %ade racist +okes and co%%ents #ne day, Junior punched &oger in the nose After that lunch day &oger held Junior in high respect and they beca%e really close friends Eugene is Junior$s father best friend !e used to drive cool bike !e beco%es an ,%ergency )edical 'echnician5,)'6 7ut he got shot in face by his good friend 7obby

My opinion:
.ell this book "as really good to read because it talks about guy "ho is si%ilar age like %e )ost of us probably have no idea "hat it2s like to gro" up on a reservation .e don2t kno" "hat it2s like to be 8ative A%erican9Indian So in that respect, Junior2s story is uni:ue .e can2t kno" e(actly "hat it2s like to be hi% .e can see ho" Junior is strong even he is fourteen years old he face "ith series of losses 'his book "as one of the better books I read in last year
