DUMB & DUMBER Quote-Along (1994) PURPLE RAIN Sing-Along (1984) QUEEN Sing-Along
THE AWFUL DR. ORLOF (1962, 35mm) On April 2, 2013 Spanish director Jess Franco stepped out of life and, one can imagine, into the sexy, hazy dreamlike netherworld where his movies take place. In honor of his passing were going to screen one of his earliest masterpieces, this triumph of gothic horror. TAOISM DRUNKARD (1984, 35mm) A rat faced drunk drives a go kart around town. The same actor plays a bong smoking grandma. A red haired villain named Old Devil falls through a trap door and faces a dick chomping, nipple-grabbing watermelon monster. Can the rat faced drunk, who also happens to be a kungfu expert, get Cherry Boy trained in time to thwart Old Devil? So wild you wont believe it really exists. THE LADY IN RED (1979, 35mm) Most based on a true story movies are so boring and unimaginative that they might as well be based on the ingredients listing on a package of Metamucil. THE LADY IN RED bucks this trend by reimagining the John Dillinger story from the point of view of the infamous lady in red who helped the FBI identify Dillinger in front of the movie theater where he was gunned down. A totally unique spin on the classic Hollywood gangster movie. STREET LAW (1974, 35mm) In this distinctly Italian spin on DEATH WISH, Franco Nero plays a citizen who is brutally assaulted during a bank robbery and decides to take justice into his own hands, vigilante style. Doubles down on the cynicism and brutality with ample car chases and shoot outs as Franco Nero tears up the screen to a blazing score by Guido & Maurizio de Angelis. IF FOOTMEN TIRE YOU WHAT WILL HORSES DO? (1971, 16mm) Attention good, Christian citizens of the United States: the Communist is coming, and he hates your religion! Southern Baptist minister Estus Pirkles paranoid, delusional fantasies of a Communist invasion of rural America are brought to life in gory detail. A cast of locals make up the Russian invaders with hilarious, shifting accents and dialogue such as, Will your Jesus give you candy? Fidel Castro will give you candy!
harrowingly beautiful and playfully brilliant. Join Schneider and a selection of the directors including Robert Rodriguez, Gary Dorsey, and Owen Egerton as we present the music and films of BURDEN OF PROOF. The songs will be sung live by Bob as the films play on the screen. Music Monday: BREADCRUMB TRAIL (2014) Lance Bangs documentary is about the band Slint and the Louisville music culture they emerged from. It includes footage going back to the early 1990s, interviews with each of the band members and their contemporaries, and newly unearthed footage from their few live performances as well as the writing and arranging of their album Spiderland. Tough Guy Cinema: COMMANDO (1985, 35mm) If theres a mission that no man could survive... then John Matrix is the man for the job. This is Arnold at his very best. FATEFUL FINDINGS (2013) Could any movie ever surpass THE ROOM in sheer mind-boggling insanity? FATEFUL FINDINGS answers this question with a million other questions. INDIANA JONES & THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984, 35mm) Chilled monkey brains, bugs galore and a terrifying guy who will literally rip the heart out of your chest follow in one of the greatest action adventure sequels of all-time. Free Kids Club: FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR (1986, 35mm) A totally free screening of the sci-fi Disney classic featuring the voice of Paul Reubens as a UFO! Cinema Cocktails: ITS ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER (1955, 35mm) Often overlooked and strangely underseen, this is Hollywood musicals at their best. The songs are catchy, the dancing is jaw dropping and if thats not enough were whipping up some fancy cocktails especially for this event. If you dont walk out of the theater lighter than air singing I like myself you will be fully entitled to keep the wad of cash that has been hidden in your theater. LITERARY DEATH MATCH - LIVE! In a bizarre, brainy twist on American Idol, four outstanding authors compete before a live audience and three celebrity judges. Prepare yourself for a genius night of literature, comedy, hijinks, elbow patches, booze and outright silliness with some of the biggest names in Austin letters. Experimental Response Cinema: MACHINE VISION (1968-1980, 16mm) A collection of works describing, investigating, expanding, detonating the dream machine. An essential Hollis Frampton performance, a recently restored 16mm double projection by Paul Sharits, an expansive video by Steina Vasulka, and Tony Conrads legendary THE FLICKER. Four artists each associated with Buffalos legendary Media Study department - take up the essentials of the moving image. Homo Arigato: NOWHERE (1997, 35mm) Director Gregg Arakis apocalyptic day-in-the-life of a super queer LA teen posse plays like an episode of 90210 on acid.
Music Monday: OUR VINYL WEIGHS A TON (2013) A feature-length documentary about avant-garde Los Angeles-based record label Stones Throw Records. The film weaves together rare concert footage, never-before-seen archival material, inner-circle home video and photographs and in-depth interviews with the artists who put Stones Throw Records on the map. POLICE ACADEMY: THE COMPLETE MARATHON (1984-1994, 5x 35mm & 2x digital) Mahoney, Hightower, Tackleberry, Jones, Hooks, Lassard and Zed...ALL DAY LONG. Witness what these hapless two bit thugs and screw ups can do when they hit the streets in an allday celebration from their first day at the Academy all the way to Moscow. Is this the stupidest event the Alamo has ever done? Only way to find out for sure. Girlie Night: PRETTY IN PINK (1986, 35mm) Molly Ringwald is coming to ZACH Theatre on April 26th! To celebrate, well be giving away several pairs of tickets to her performance at this special screening. SORCERER (1977, 4K DCP) A brand new restoration of William Friedkins greatest film, this white-knuckle heart-attack remake of WAGES OF FEAR. SPICE WORLD (1997, 35mm) Its tough to imagine improving on this magical concoction of pop music and girl power, but were about to take this film to the next level with a live shadow cast of drag queens! Straight out of Vancouver, The Spice Gurls will be performing all of the musical numbers live on stage while the film plays on the big screen behind them. Get ready to slam it to the left and shake it to the right, because these girls will spice up your life. Girlie NIght: 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU (1999, 35mm) Yall, we dont just love this movie, we Prada backpack love this movie. Bangarang!: THREE KINGS (1999, 35mm) Marky Mark, Spike Jonze, Ice Cube and the Cloon Dog star in this David O. Russell jam about 4 soldiers who set out to resteal stolen gold from Kuwait after finding a secret map hidden in an Iraqi soldiers butt. But when this gang stumbles upon a group of persecuted civilians rising up against Saddam Hussein, they have a conflict of conscience and decide to help out. Before he was courting Oscars, Russell was making genuine inventive and exciting cinema. Video Vortex: TURKISH CAPTAIN AMERICA AND SANTO VS. SPIDER-MAN (1973, VHS) The maniacal psychopath known as Spider-Man is on a killing spree. Captain America and Santo are called in to take care of business. Why do people keep making movies about Marvel super-heroes when the best one already exists? Video Vortex: GOREMET ZOMBIE CHEF FROM HELL (1986, VHS) This backyard gorefest was made by adults on Super 8mm, but most likely influenced by ninth-graders playing Dungeons & Dragons while watching EVIL DEAD. Reeks of weed, Doritos, and old Reebok high-tops in the best of ways.
MASTER PANCAKE
TERROR TUESDAY $3
BLOODEATERS (1980, 35mm) Sometimes, its important to address serious issues that impact humanity on a daily basis. Namely: zombies and smoking weed. When foul-mouthed hippies discover a marijuana haul thatll have them set for a year, the government crop-dusts the area with an experimental drug called Dromax. Naturally, this creates zombies who use machetes. This is an ultra-fun backyard obscurity with zero logic and gore that looks like red cake frosting. COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE (1970, 35mm) The premiere New Hollywood horror movie of 1970. Featuring hypnotic photography, slice-of-life storytelling, and hip characterizations, COUNT YORGA feels like an issue of Marvels VAMPIRE TALES as brought to the screen by Dennis Hoppers P.A. No pretensions and no lofty goals. This is simply a modern-day retelling of DRACULA with more seances, more bloody fangs, and more almost-nudity. Plus, its actually scary. CRITTERS 2 (1988, 35mm) The denizens of Grovers Bend band together to face the razor-toothed onslaught of the Crites! Again! Look for Hollywoods ultimate mega-nerd, Eddie Deezen, in the role of Hungry Heifer Manager. Also includes a mutilated policeman in a pink Easter bunny suit crashing through a stained glass church window into the laps of grandmas and children. DEMON WITCH CHILD (1975, 35mm) This Spanish semi-rip-off of THE EXORCIST features one of our #1 all-time best favorite things: Children eating other children. After a witch commits suicide, kind-hearted Satan transfers his soul to the body of a young girl named Susan. Without warning, Susan becomes a crusty, potty-mouthed asshole who floats in the air and obsesses about sex. She also kills people. This movie goes over the line at least twenty-three times. OUT OF THE DARK (1988, 35mm) In Toilet Bowl, USA, a group of phone sex operators are besieged by death in the form of a psychotic, sleazoid clown named Bobo. Because Nobody can handle nipples like Bobo! Theres also Bud Cort, Karen Black, and Divine, Americas favorite poop-eating drag queen. This is a thoroughly enjoyable, forgotten smut-slasher thats packed with one-liners, overacting, and one can of Jolt Cola. Also a really unforgivable toupee.
OTHER STUFF!
AGFA MYSTERY MOVIE (35mm) Do you like wrestling, rock n roll and decapitations? What about lucrative gold investments? Do you want to see the only existing 35mm print of a film so dangerous we cant even say its name without risking legal action/apocalypse? Dont miss this. ATX TV NIGHT A totally free series featuring the best and weirdest from the wild history of the boob tube. Presented in partnership with ATX Television Fest. BOB SCHNEIDERS BURDEN OF PROOF In honor of his celebrated album, BURDEN OF PROOF, Bob Schneider commissioned thirteen directors to each make a short film based on one of the tracks. The combined result is an amazing and moving journey of images and music at once
