    PERSONAL STATEMENT I am Suraya Suhaili, born in 1990 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    I am writing this letter in the hope of pursuing professional studies, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in your esteemed university. I believe such studies are indispensable for my career development and will benefit me for the whole of my life. I am a holder of a Diploma in Accounting and soon will be graduated with a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Malaysia in March 2014. Outside studying, I am an active and a person full of energy. I love to play sport whenever I can as it fills me with great enjoyment because playing sport provides me with a good balance in my life between leisure and work which allows me to produce my best results academically. I have been participated in kayaking expedition as far as 15 km and it brings me the meaningful experience as it taught me to always aiming high and working hard to reach at the final point of destination and thus it has always been my principles to achieve what I desired for in life. Besides that, I am a prefect in the secondary school and also a Commander of Cadet in the University, this taught me how to managing the students, confident and persuasive as well as the leadership skills. Along with my good performance in my exams, I was keen on obtaining hands-on experience in accounting related field, and, therefore involved myself into practical training in one of the Big Four of audit firm which is KPMG. I was attached to KPMG Malaysia for six months and was given the privileged to be assigned to the International Executives Services unit in tax department. The unit offers personal tax compliance services and other tax related issues related to the international workforce. The six months practical training has been enriching one that adds to my personal learning curve. I have utilized what I learnt in class into the actual working life and indeed it has trained me to become more mature, independent and confident. It has enhanced my interpersonal and communication skills as well as time management. Problem solving and critical thinking are also among the skills I have acquired and it is really a life changing experience. I am deeply fascinated with the subject of accountancy and I am excited to learn about this course in more detail. The main reason why I decided to pursue studies in ACCA is because ACCA is the only truly global accountancy qualification with members in 170 countries in which it is a global program that tracks the needs of industry and employers. On top of that, I believe that the course will give me a solid foundation of relevant theory and quantitative techniques that allow me to develop my individual capacity, originality and key skills that are sought after by future employers. The ACCA holders not only gain specialist knowledge in finance and accounting, but also acquire valuable skills in organizational management and strategy. Thus, by pursuing my study in ACCA, I would be able to enhance my knowledge not only in accounting, but also in other area such as in taxation, auditing, and management. Moreover, my long-term goal is to become a registered Chartered Accountant, which required not only a certain personality but also professional knowledge and I am strong believe ACCA will be the excellent course where help me to realizing my dream .

    Upon completion of this program, I wish to utilize my quantitative skills, enhance my problem-solving and decision-making skills in this field, and prepare myself for a career in accounting-related job in Malaysia .In addition, I intend to pursue my career as an accountant at Accountant Generals Department of Malaysia. For your information, Malaysia is in the midst of making final a preparation in a journey towards transition from cash accounting to accrual accounting public sector which expected to be fully implemented by the year 2015. This is in line with the knowledge that ACCA provides to the students. By gaining the advantage of having ACCA qualification, I believe I could serve my country by applying the knowledge and skills that I have gained throughout the learning process. From a young age I have always wanted to further my studies abroad because I could broaden my perspectives especially in accounting and finance. Studying abroad will allow me to experience a different education system than in my home country. Other than that, it will allow me to find out who I really am as I will be able to see how much I can push my limits and how I will overcome the obstacles that I have never before encountered. These questions can only be answered once I am leaving my comfort zone thus I can identify the strengths and weakness that I have never realized before. I also want to meet interesting people around the globe. It would be advantageous to me to have a wide circle of friends from many countries as indeed it will be rewarded with lifelong connections. Hands down, the best way to learn a language is to fall in love with a native speaker. Hence, it will be a good opportunity to me to improve my language skills. Also, it fascinates me on how I can have the chance to be independent and learn to adapt with people from different races and cultures. To conclude, I assure you that if given the opportunity, I will prove myself a capable and dedicated student. I know that I have the right amount of interest in Accountancy as a subject and the potential for success in order to achieve what I want.
