Media in Society Studied the development of mass media within the American society. Also learned about the approaches that are utilized to understand the medias role in society. Media Writing Was able to practice the basics in newswriting, public relations and advertising copywriting. Also perfected the techniques of factual and persuasive writing for mass media. Introduction to Visual Communication Focused on the elements of visual communication through application of language and principles. Introduction to Communication Research Methods Explored various quantitative and qualitative Public Relations Strategies Learned how public relations theories are applied to real world public relations cases. Composition as Critical Inquiry Rhetorical approach to writing through collaborative drafting, revising, and editing. Emphasis on critical reading and analysis. Short Fiction Studied selected short stories and then discussed them to increase understanding and enjoyment. Creative Writing: Fiction Studied the writing of fiction with an emphasis on technique in published writing.

Writing for the Professions Learned how to design documents and revise for style. Applications included resumes, letters, memos, reports and visual aids. Also contributed to the creation of the English department newsletter.
