Page 2 SCENARIO A customer at Compu2Net has come to the store looking for a new computer. They have explained their requirements, budget and have asked that you provide a detailed sales proposal.
USER REQUIREMENTS Julien is from France and will be coming to the UK in October to attend University. He will be studying Web Design and Development and will need to buy a computer that will last him for the four years of his course. His budget is 1000 and should include the cost of any software he might require. He has not yet decided whether to buy a laptop, desktop or to build his own. He is happy using Windows and Apple so has no preference on which Operating System you recommend.
ACTIVITY 1 P4/M2: RECOMMEND A COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR A GIVEN BUSINESS PURPOSE AND JUSTIFY THE CHOICE OF A COMPUTER SYSTEM TO MEET A GIVEN BUSINESS PURPOSE For P4, learners could present the evidence as a report or presentation. The choice of components should be briefly explained but may not make reference to all the user requirements. It is important that the final specification includes all the necessary hardware and software components for the system to work.
For M2, learners must justify why the system set up was chosen, e.g. cost, and suggest alternative set ups (at least one) and discuss why they could also be appropriate. The reasons for the choices should be clearly explained and referenced to the user need. Any optional extras must be justified. THE TASK: You will be writing a sales proposal for a customer based on their requirements. HOW MIGHT YOU APPROACH IT? This task would be best suited to a word document although you might prefer to give (and record) a presentation where you give a sales pitch in the style of the apprentice TV series.
Remember this is for the customers of compu2net and they may have limited understanding of technical terms so keep to simple words and/or explain any technical terms that you use. Think about the companys corporate image and ensure that you work is well presented, consistent and spell-checked. If you use information from other sources such as websites provide links. WHAT SHOULD YOU INCLUDE?
Think about the customers requirements. Are they looking for a laptop, off-the-shelf PC or would a bespoke computer built from parts be more suitable. Make sure you cover all the basics look back at your assignment 2.1 for ideas. Considerations for selection include: Cost, Software to be used, Network sharing and connectivity requirements; Need for maintenance contract; Outputs required; Need for integration with other systems e.g. home entertainment; Processing power and storage capacity; Accessibility for disabled users;

If you are looking at M2 you might want to produce a table that allows two or three systems to be compared. This would allow you to score each system on different factors such as RAM, CPU before giving a final total that can guide your final conclusion. You will want to compare each element saying why you scored one machine over the others. You might also want to discover the minimum and/or recommended requirements for the software and use this to justify your decisions.
