French Culture is one of the most diverse and rich cultures over the world
Over the world, different countries posses rich cultures and strong backgrounds in different
disciplines. However, Europe is distinguished as the old continent and developed during centuries art,
knowledge, politics, religion, and philosophies more advanced than others and France is one of the most
rich countries in culture. Therefore, the culture of France is one of the most varied and interesting
cultures of the world, due to different and amazing facts that characterize french people and its
atmosphere.
The culture of a country involves several elements that are mentioned during this essay and are
the art, politics, science, religion, holidays, and more. First, France is a democratic country and every 5
years a president is elected. currently Francois Hollande is the president of france. The official language
is French, however there are many other languages spoken in france such as, German, Alsatian, Celtic,
Breton and more. For example, according to the encyclopedia Preceptor, 1.58% of the population
speak Alsacian and 0.7% Breton.
Second, another part of the french culture is their art. French art is one of the more outstanding
over the world, as well compared to Italian and other european countries artwork. French paint,
architecture, literature, dance, and music are unique and beautiful. For instance, Charles Gounod
composed the opera Fausto and the sacred song Ave Maria. Another artist is the painter Claude
Monet with his masterpieces Womens in the Garden and Retrato de Camille and Pablo Picasso

with the Monalisa. Many other artists are part of this element, the art, which has a worldwide impact
with its majestic beauty. For example, the Eiffel Tower and the Triumph Arc are only some
architecture masterpieces of france. This monumental structures, like the Eiffel tower, creates in the
population an icon to identify themselves. Many persons over the world know nothing else from France
than those gigantic structures. therefore, are French icons. in particular Paris, has played an important
role as a center of high culture and of decorative arts since the seventeenth century, first in Europe, and
from the nineteenth century on, world wide. From the late nineteenth century, France has also played an
important role in modern art, cinema, fashion and cuisine.
Third, like in the art, french has great science and advanced technology. Persons like the
mathematician Joseph Fourier contributed to the entire world for different disciplines such as physics,
chemistry, and engineering with his famous Fourier series and also Fourier Transform. Other french
scientists are Louis Pasteur and the mathematician Rene Descartes, which developed the Cartesian
coordinates. Finally, Pascal developed the first calculator. France developed technology to launch a
satellite to space in 1965, and currently, France has nuclear technology and many advances that
characterizes as one of the most powerful countries.
Population has access to high education colleges like Clermont Universite, Universite
Paris-Est, Universite Nantes Angers Le Mans and many more, creating an academic environment
among the population. This is because the 87.6% of the students attends university and graduate.
Another extremely important cultural aspect of france is the diversity of religions. Religion is a
fundamental part of every culture, therefore we must take it in count and we can observe that in france
the Christianism is almost 88% of the population, 2% are protestant, 10% are devoted to islam, 1% to

the Judaism and 1% are buddhist. However, we must take in count that until the protestantism in 1600
B.C. the country was almost entirely catholic.
Other part of this culture are the national holidays. They have many holidays, but the most
important ones are: Day of the 1945 Victory, The great cetrero, Flambee de la Morteau, Medievals de
Cremieu and the National French Holiday. When holidays come, some people go snowshoeing in a
location or place called the Massif des Aravis. In the Massif des Aravis a mountain or mountains called
the Aravis mountain chain are visible and shows its beauty to the tourists.
The flag of the country is an elemental piece of their patriotism and with this, its culture. The flag
of France was officially adopted the 15th of February of 1794. It is known as the tricolor flag and has
three vertical bands of equal width , (blue, white and red). The blue band is at the left side and continues
with the white and red. This flag represents freedom, equality, and fraternity. It arises from the french
revolution. In the book Les Miserables from Victor Hugo, the french flag is a very important element.
Another patriotic element could be considered the French Revolution started in 1789 and
finished in 1799. And one of the heroic characters of their history is Napoleon Bonaparte who
contributed to this victory.
The definition of culture is very wide, it includes art, science, politics and many more. These
elements, are rich in content in France. Mentioned above we can observe several artists,
mathematicians, and interesting data about languages and religion. All of them are part of a very solid
and iconic culture. In conclusion, France is the most rich country in culture due to its organization and
distribution of the population, art and science developed, as well politics and religions. In my opinion,
one of the most beautiful cultures is the french culture.
