Creative Visualization
Why do we need “Creative Visualization “ as a process and can’t we rely upon our
mind to achieve our goals. Before we delve into the depth of this topic , let us understand
the nature of our human mind. As per the tenets of Tibetan Buddhism , an insight
into human mind reveals that there are two different kinds, one which possesses
discriminating powers, with a sense of duality . It thinks, plots, indulges in various
types of emotions both positive and negative , and vacillate between good and bad .This
ordinary mind called “Sem “ is shiftless , wavering with a tendency to condition itself.
Our basal mind or “Sem” is usually clouded with train of thoughts, emotions, mental
clutter gathering lot of dust and cobwebs, which makes it foggy and fuzzy.
Then there is the core nature of human mind, its innermost essence, which is
untouched by such vicissitudes of life and seeks bliss and happiness. This pure, pristine
mindful state or awareness as it is better known in called “Rigya” in Tibetan Buddhism.
Since pure awareness is a state of Buddhahood , this very nature of mind with its
innermost essence of bliss and tranquility , is least affected by scurry of mental
thoughts, emotions and other vagaries of our life.Vaguely it may be referred to as
our subconscious mind. The nature of both our minds is reflected upon our physical
existence and the dominant component portrays our personality traits.
When using “creative Visualization” technique ,we use the following affirmations
and principles:
Remember that some things may “ go wrong” and one should n’t be bogged down
by such down trends and debacles.
And always ask for what you want and expect to receive it with open arms.
Sit in a comfortable position and relax your body and mind. Use one of the meditation
techniques to relax your physical body parts by moving from feet upwards to legs,
abdomen, torso, shoulders, facial muscles , eyes and the brow. Likewise relax your mind
process by focusing on your breathing, both inhaling and exhaling. Prefer using a chair
with back rest or sitting in “sukh asana” and avoid lying on the bed which may induce
short sleepy spells. Say if you want to improve your sports skills, visualize yourself
playing that game with your best shot ,cheers from the crowd and try looking
at yourself from the gallery with applaudings. If you want to look slim and trim,
healthy and fit, look at yourself through your mental mirror , and see that you
have shed a few pounds, melted down those extra flab and are having a beautiful
and robust body. Enhance your creative visualization process by a process of
“streaming” and anchoring ,with self talk and positive affirmations.
