Updated Building Codes

This document discusses how updated building codes in the United States have changed requirements for certifying battery rack systems. The Uniform Building Code (UBC) system that was previously used, which categorized areas into seismic zones 1-4, has been replaced by the more complex International Building Code (IBC). The IBC considers additional parameters like short-term acceleration values and soil factors to determine seismic ratings. These changes, along with updates to standards like ACI 318-05, have impacted battery rack design and the testing required for certification. Manufacturers now face challenges in designing racks that meet all jurisdiction-specific code requirements while keeping costs low.
