Swara Bhaskar (born April 9, 1987) is an Indian film actress who works in the
Hindi cinema. She came to prominence after playing the roles of Payal, in the
2011 rom-com film Tanu Weds Manu and Bindiya in the 2013 romantic drama
Raanjhanaa. Both films garnered her critical acclaim and two nominations for
Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Early Life and education
Swara was born in Delhi to a Telugu Naval officer Chitrapu Uday Bhaskar and
his Bihari

wife Ira Bhaskar who is a professor of cinema studies in
Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Her maternal grandmother was from
Varanasi.

Bhaskar grew up in Delhi,

where she did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya

and subsequently studied English
literature at Delhi Universitys Miranda House where she was classmate with another actress Minisha Lamba. She did her masters
in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

Career
Before Swara started acting in films she was associated with N. K. Sharmas "Act One" theater group in Delhi.

She shifted to
Mumbai in 2008,

started her film career with a 2009 film Madholal Keep Walking.

She was finally noticed by audience as
well as critics in the film Tanu Weds Manu in which she played the role of Payal, lead actress Kangana Ranauts best friend,

which she won several nominations and also the Best Supporting Actress award conferred by the Zee Cine Awards.

Swara
played the lead role in Listen... Amaya (2013), which also saw the reunion of actors Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval after 28
years.

In 2013, she appeared in Raanjhanaa, along with Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, and received praise for her role as Bindiya.

Her upcoming films include, Sabki Bajegi Band directed by Anirudhh Chawla and Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai by Debaloy De.

was recently spotted shooting for the Abbas Tyrewala-directed Mango, starring Chandan Roy Sanyal and Monali Thakur, being
produced under the banner of Kaleidoscope Entertainment.

She also hosted Samvidhaan (TV Series) in 2014.

been selected to act in suraj barjatyas next movie named "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo".
