Great schools
regularly evaluate
their progress. They
pause to reflect,
undertaking a
thorough analysis of
the available data to
reflect on how well the
human, financial,
physical and
information resources
of the school have
been deployed to
achieve the goals and
priorities in the
schools strategic
plan.

Victoria as a Learning
Community states that the
type of review a school
undertakes will be
determined following
assessment of the schools
performance against a
consistent set of statewide
measures about students
achievement, engagement
and wellbeing, and the
productivity of our
school. It uses an inquiry
model to arrive at a
shared view of the
schools strengths,
achievements and future
needs. Launching Place
Primary Peer review
involves leaders from
Victorian schools
working together to assess
school performance and
making recommendations
for improvement. Student
leaders will have the
opportunity to present
their views on Learning
at Launch.

From 2014, all schools

will engage in selfevaluation annually.
The self-evaluation process
has provided us with a
significant opportunity to
discuss, consult and provide
feedback across the whole
school community, with an
opportunity for active
contribution and leadership
from students, staff and
parents. The self-evaluation
document is a key focus of
our peer review which takes
place this Friday. The
document can be viewed on
the Launching Place
Primary School Website via

Christmas
Bushwahzee is coming to
Launching Place PS
Set the date, Thursday
December 11th.
As an alternative to the traditional
Christmas concert, we will be
having a Bush Xmas focus this year.
Bushwahzee is a Melbourne
institution, an enduring band of
musicians.

Bushwahzee specialises in
performing songs and dances that get
their audiences involved. The band
has worked in hundreds of schools
around Australia, and are well known
for their one day productions for
primary school children.
The Bush Xmas is a very similar
show to a Cabaret show, except that it
has some Xmas content, and it gives
the kids and parents a chance to dress
up in the traditional Xmas costumes
of crimson, green and white, Xmas
hats and reindeer antlers etc.
We start the day with a whole school
performance of the Gday Show.

showcasing your children as the stars
of the evening.
Put the date into your calendar as we
look forward to seeing you there.

The day program will also include

students performing classroom group
singing and dancing activities (mock)
busking and singing "We Wish You
A Happy Xmas, Aussie Jingle Bells
(Dashing Through the Bush In A
Rusty Holden Ute), John Lennon's
"And So This Is Xmas", The Jingle

Bushfire Season
School procedures for the
bushfire season
The way schools in Victoria
respond to bushfires is being
constantly revised.
Fire danger ratings and
warnings are used in Victoria
to provide clear direction on
the safest options for
preserving life.
Schools and childrens
services identified as being at
highest bushfire risk have been
included on the Bushfire-At
Risk Register (BARR) and will
be closed on days determined
by fire authorities to be Code
Red. Our school has been
identified as a school at highest
bushfire risk and is listed on
the BARR.
Where possible, we will
provide parents with up to
three days notice of a planned
closure following the issue of a
Code Red warning by the CFA.
We will contact you directly by
email, letter sent home with
your child, as well as a
message TiqBiz, with advice
on planned closures and will
confirm the decision to close
by 12 noon the day before the
planned closure.
Once confirmed, the decision
to close will not change,
regardless of improvements in
the weather forecast. This is to
avoid confusion and help your
family plan alternative care
arrangements for your child.
No staff will be on site on

days when the school is

closed by the risk of fire.

School camps will be

cancelled if the area where

the camp is taking place is at
risk.
On these Code Red days families
are encouraged to enact their
Bushfire Survival Plan on
such days, children should
never be left at home
unattended or in the care of
older children.
For those of us living in a
bushfire-prone area, the safest
option when a Code Red day is
declared may be to leave the
night before, or early in the
morning of the Code Red day.
As part of preparing our school
for the threat of fire we have
updated our emergency
management plan; reprioritised
any maintenance works that may
assist in preparing for the threat
of fire and cleared our school
grounds and gutters.
What can parents do?
Make sure your familys

Bushfire Survival Plan is upto-date and includes

alternative care arrangements
for your children in the event
that our school is closed.
Ensure we have your current
contact details, including your
mobile
phone
numbers.
Keep in
touch
with us
by
reading
our

newsletters, by checking our

website
www.launchps.vic.edu.au .
and by talking to your childs
teacher or any other member of
the teaching staff about our
emergency plans.
Most importantly at this time

of year, if youre planning a

holiday or short stay in the
bush or in a coastal area, you
should check warnings in
advance of travel and remain
vigilant during your stay.
If your child is old enough,

talk to them about bushfires

and your familys Bushfire
Survival Plan.
You can access more

information about school

closures on the Department
of Education and Early
Childhood Development
website see http://

years fire season and Bushfire
Survival Planning, visit the CFA
website at www.cfa.vic.gov.au or call
