This remake of the 1983 game BC's Quest For Tires allows players to control a caveman rescuing a lady from a dinosaur across dangerous levels. New features include split-screen two-player mode and day/night visual modes. The game is meant to be harder than the original with fewer restart points and more obstacles.

Quest For Tires PC v1.05
=============================== TABLE OF CONTENTS: 1. General info 2. System requirements 3. Getting started 4. Split screen 5. Contact -----------------------------------------------------------------------------1. GENERAL INFO -----------------------------------------------------------------------------This game is a remake of the Commodore 64 game BCs Quest For Tires (1983, Sierra On-Line). In it, you control a caveman who is riding a stone wheel, trying to rescue a helpless lady from an evil dinosaur. On the journey you will encounter all kinds of dangers, such as logs, lakes and falling stones. This is basically the same game for PC, with new graphics and some new features. Perhaps the most notable difference is the addition of a two player split screen mode. It allows two human players to race against each other; try to get to the end and save the trapped chick before the other player does. The game also includes three different time modes: day, evening and night. The only difference between the modes is the visual appearance (night is darkest etc.). Because of the two player implementation, the world has to work in real-time, meaning that stuff goes on even when youre not there to see it. Because of this, some differences had to be made, such as the falling stones disappearing a few seconds after hitting the ground (if not, there would be a ground full of stones when the player reaches that level). The game is also meant to be a bit harder than the original. There are starting points only at the start of each level, and there are more obstacles. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------2. System requirements -----------------------------------------------------------------------------On some machines, the OpenGL graphics mode works better, on others the Direct3D mode. Test both modes to see which works better for you. Remember to update your video card drivers, as this can improve performance and solve other graphical glitches. The game is mostly dependant on video card performance. If the game runs slowly or doesnt work, there is a very high chance that it has something to do with the video card or its drivers. If possible, disable v-sync and anti-aliasing before playing. V-Sync can cause Input lag and anti-aliasing decreases your frame rate and can in some cases cause graphics problems while offering no real benefits for this game. If the game used to work, but at some point wont load up any more, There might be a problem with the settings file or the highscore file. Make sure They dont have the read-only-attribute. If they arent too important, try deleting them. The program will then create fresh ones when you run it again. All that said, the game should in most cases run fine on even older hardware. Minimum specs (estimates): -400MHz CPU -128MB RAM -32MB Video card (capable of displaying resolution 1024x768x32) -15MB hard disk space -Any sound card that supports DirectX -DirectX 7.0 -Windows XP Recommended specs: -600MHz CPU -256 MB RAM
-64MB Video Card
Developed on: -Athlon 64 3200+ -1024 MB RAM -Geforce 6600 GT 128MB The above rig is able to maintain a frame rate of over 700 frames per second. There is, However, a frame rate cap of 60 fps, which means youll only notice a difference when the frame rate drops below 60. Windows 98/ME users: The game may very well work on these operating systems, but some problems have been reported. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------3. Getting started -----------------------------------------------------------------------------When you start the program, you will first be transferred to the main menu. The keys can be set in the key configuration menu. After entering the game, you can see some statistics in the lower left corner of the screen. In the statistics, you can see score, speed and wheels. Score obviously tells the amount of score you have gained. Speed is the speed at which you are moving forward. Wheels are your lives, you lose one of them each time you do something wrong. When you are out of wheels, the game is over for you. use the left and right keys to move your character around on the screen. The speed toggle key works this way: hold it down and then press either left or right. You will notice that the speed at which the screen moves changes. NOTE: the minimum speed is 10, so you cannot stop the movement, unless is it automatically stopped by a special event. When you encounter ground obstacles, such as rocks, use the jump key to avoid them. If you come by higher obstacles, such as trees, you will need to use crouch. There are some small puzzles in the game where you have to think how to get past something. They are pretty easy to figure out, so I will not give direct solutions to them here. Most of the puzzles have something to do with reducing / increasing your speed at the right time. If you played the original game, you should have no trouble getting through the puzzles in this one. If you find the game too hard, try to move as slowly as possible, as this makes the gameplay easier. Note, however, that moving slower will decrease the amount of score you gain. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------4. Split screen notes -----------------------------------------------------------------------------Player 1 is colored pink and player 2 is brown. The split screen games function basically as if two people were playing a single player game at the same time. The players cant harm each other in any way, except for blocking their line of sight. If a player dies, the other player isnt affected in any way. Even if a player loses all wheels, the other player can still continue playing. After a split screen game is over, both players scores are checked and can get a spot on the high score list. In the bird level, both players will get their own birds, and you cannot take advantage of the other players bird. The player 1s bird is colored blue, player 2s bird is brown. A bird is spawned each time a character comes to the mountain (including, of course, respawns). -----------------------------------------------------------------------------5.
