Pyramid Columns Sparger & Design

Pyramid Flotation Columns

Pyramid TM flotation columns deliver high
recoveries and grades, reduce reagent
consumption, decrease maintenance
costs and lower capital expense. The
keys to success are as follows:
Design: First and foremost, the appropriate number, size and layouts of flotation
columns is accomplished by applying
the critical design parameters and working with our customers to optimize the
layout of the system. EIMCOs high
level of experience can guide our customers through this step.

EIMCOs latest generation column

flotation sparger system, the RateMax
supersonic sparger system provides incredible opportunities to both improve
performance and increase operational
flexibility as well as decrease maintenance requirements. The exit velocity of
the gas leaving a RateMax nozzle is
about 50% greater than a standard column sparger nozzle, which translates
into smaller bubbles being formed. The
net result is that the bubble surface area
flux rate, Sb, is as much as 50% higher
than traditional sparger designs. Some
of the features and benefits of the
RateMax sparger include a simple, robust design constructed of wear and
chemical resistant ceramics, easy on-line
maintenance of the system and the ability to easily retrofit any column installation. Combined with our ACDSM (Automated Column Designer), engineering
and design services, EIMCO has a
potent combination of both technology
and tools to assist any user of column
flotation technology.

WEMCO Agitair Flotation Cells

Sparger Selection: For the heart of

the column, EIMCO Process offers the
RateMax supersonic sparger system
which is designed for maximum
operational flexibility and minimum
maintenance.
Operation: Proper feed conditioning and
selection of column flotation operating
parameters such as froth depth, aeration
rate and washwater flow rate can make
or break a column installation.

Agitair flotation cells offer fine process

control through low-pressure forced aeration with individual valves controlling
air supply to each bank and cell. Mixing
and air diffusion are achieved through
the use of hollow-shaft impellers and
floor-mounted stabilizer. Several impeller and stabilizer configurations are
available to accommodate various cell
and process requirements. Agitair
cells provide excellent performance
in cleaner circuits.
Cell Sizes: 1 - 14m3 (40 - 500 ft3)

Benefits of PyramidTM Columns:

Improve hydrodynamic conditions
for improved flotation separation
Wear-resistant sparger nozzles
On-line sparger maintenance
No down time!
Reduced capital costs

Liquid and Liquid Separation

WEMCO Pacesetter
Oil/Water Separators
The WEMCO Pacesetter oil/water
separator has become the standard in
SX-EW applications for separating aqueous and organic streams. The Pacesetter
separator uses a unique, two-stage process to effectively recover entrained
organic from either raffinate or electrolyte or to remove entrained aqueous
from organic streams. First, influent
energy is diffused by a coalescer pack
causing small droplets to collide and
form larger ones. This is followed by a
separator pack that provides separate
surfaces and flow paths for aqueous
and organic streams thus preventing
re-entrainment. The packs are inclined
at 60 degrees to enhance solids removal.
The WEMCO Pacesetter oil/water separator is designed to handle a wide variety of influent entrainment concentrations as well as upset conditions and
crud runs.
Pacesetter oil/water separators are engineered in a range of sizes and can be
supplied in a variety of materials of
construction such as stainless steels or
FRP. Start-up and operation are simple
and reliable with little operator attention
and maintenance required.

Granular Media Filters

EIMCO manufactures pressure and
gravity feed granular media filters for
minerals applications such as pregnant
solution filtration in SX/EW circuits. All
filters use Flexscour underdrains, which
have been designed for efficient media
utilization and uniform distribution
of simultaneous air scour and water
backwashes for effective bed cleaning.
Flexscour laterals are partitioned to
separate air and water flows, allowing
the underdrain to be cleaned in place by
internally circulating high temperature
wash water. All underdrain components
are manufactured of stainless steel
for a completely corrosion-resistant
installation.
Pressure vessels are fabricated to ASME
code VIII. Filter vessels are available in
full stainless steel construction. Gravity
feed filters are also available in FRP
construction. EIMCO filters are available in complete shop-fabricated, skidmounted modules with all required instrumentation and controls.

Scrubbers / Classifiers
Attrition Machines
WEMCO Attrition Machines provide
particle surface preparation, cleaning and
desliming to improve productivity of

subsequent treatment processes such as

glass sand preparation and flotation.
Powerful attrition action is created by
particles abrading against each other in
a thick, high-density pulp as it moves
through a series of octagonal cells. Each
cell is equipped with a separate motor
driven impeller with three sets of
alternating pitch blades. The resulting
flow
reversals
provide
controlled
turbulence
for effective
attrition.
Cast alloy,
Ni-hard or
rubber
covered
paddles and
abrasion-resistant steel or rubber-covered
steel tank liners limit wear and
maintenance.
Cell sizes: 0.20 - 5.7m3 (8 - 200ft3)

Classifiers

continuous wet classification, washing,
dewatering or desliming. Fines and lowdensity materials overflow the tank weir
while coarse, fast-settling particles are
removed and dewatered by the turning
spiral. Large diameter tubular shafts and
short, cast flight arms carry heavy loads
with minimal deflection. A simple lifting
device permits easy start-up after shutdown or power interruption. Replaceable
wear shoes and tank liners simplify
maintenance and ensure long service life.
