Tip #1: Mistakes are Good!

It is natural to feel worried about making mistakes! However, the thing
that most people fail to understand is that mistakes are actually a good
thing! If you never make mistakes, you will never be fluent in Japanese!
A lot of people cant speak Japanese because they are afraid of trying
and failing. But in reality, the only way to truly fail is to not try at all.
Making mistakes is a necessary part of learning, and it actually helps
you to learn much faster!
No one can speak Japanese perfectly at first!
Remember that if you want to be able to speak
Japanese fluently, you must embrace your mistakes!
Make lots of mistakes and learn from them every
time! If you continue to do this, you will be fluent in
Japanese.

Tip #2: Believe in Yourself!

If you believe you can do it, you can do it! Half the battle is just believing
in yourself enough to take the first step!
!
Watashi wa zettai ni nihongo ga hanaseru you ni naru!
I will definitely become fluent in Japanese!
Try writing this phrase down somewhere you can see it every day.
Practice saying it out loud as many times as you can every day to build
up your confidence.
If you say this every day, you will also gain motivation to make this come
true!

Tip #3: Set Goals and Imagine!

Setting goals can help you to stay on track! Think about what you want
to do. Why do you want to learn to speak Japanese? What do you hope
to achieve by becoming fluent in Japanese?
Whatever it is that you want to do, write it down and practice reading it
out loud every day so that you wont forget and you will work toward it!
Here are some examples of goals that you might have!

Nihonjin no tomodachi to nihongo de hanashitai.

I want to talk with my Japanese friends in Japanese.

Itsuka nihon ni sumitai.

I want to live in Japan someday.

Set small goals too!

Once you have imagined and written down your big goal, you should
come up with smaller goals that work towards achieving your big goal.
For example:

Mainichi sanjuppun, nihongo no benkyou o suru.

I will study Japanese for 30 minutes every day.

Shuu ni ikkai, nihonjin no sensei to nihongo de hanasu.

I will talk with a Japanese teacher in Japanese once a week.

Mainichi atarashii tango o oboeru.

I will learn new vocabulary every day.

You get out what you put in!

Think about people who have achieved
their goals and done great things. These
people didnt just get there because they
had talent! It is simple: the more you put
in, the more you will get out!
No matter what way you try to become
fluent, whether its buying a lot of books
and studying every day, studying abroad
to Japan, taking Japanese classes, or
studying Japanese online you must
invest your time, effort and money or
you will not be able to become fluent!

Tip #4: Make it Your Routine

Learning Japanese should be fun, not hard! Making studying Japanese
a part of your routine will make it a lot easier to keep working toward
your goals!
The key is to find fun and effective ways to study and then to decide set
times that you will do these activities regularly.
Here are some examples of good routines:
Listening to Japanese every day for 30 minutes or more
(Japanese dramas, anime, music, podcasts).

Tip #5: Find a Mentor

A lot of people have trouble learning Japanese because they dont
know where to start. If you always only study by yourself, not only
will it take you much longer to learn Japanese, but there is also the
possibility that you will not be learning the kinds of things that you
really need to know to achieve your goals!
Thats why its great to have a mentor! A mentor could be a Japanese
friend, a tutor, or a teacher who is willing to guide your studying and
make sure that you are on the track to success!
There are many benefits to having Japanese tutors! Not only can they
help you make a learning plan that fits your goals, but they can also
help you improve your Japanese in many ways including conversation
practice and grammar explanation! You can also feel more confident if
you can get good advice from your Japanese tutors!

Tip #6: Practice Speaking

The best way to learn to speak Japanese with confidence is to
practice talking to Japanese people in Japanese! The more you
practice speaking, the more confident you will become!
Take it step by step. First, you have to decide to talk with someone in
Japanese. Although you might feel scared, you will never go anywhere
if you dont start!
The first step is the hardest! The more you practice, the easier it will
become! Practice makes perfect! Of course you will make mistakes.
But remember! Mistakes are a good thing! They are nothing to be
embarrassed about!

Remember that it is not nearly as scary as you are

imagining. Speaking Japanese is fun! Once you decide
to take a chance and speak Japanese, you will be so
glad you did!
