Warm-up

Trumpet in Bb

the first thing I do when I warm-up is hold an extended G, breathing when I need to.
The goal is to produce a good sound while getting the blood to flow through the
lips without strain. You DO NOT need to keep the trumpet on your lips the entire
time. I usually play this at mf f

Next, I play the G in octaves and try to focus my aperture. This part of the warm-up should be
played mp p

Rubato, take your time. The goal of this exercise to start warming up all registers, starting by expanding
7 down to the lower register

Again, Rubato but it should all be played in one breath. It is very important to play this exercise without
strain, especially as you expand upward. The goal of this exercise is to connect low to high, while maintaining
a nice full sound. A player can continue the sequence as high as needed.

After this exercise, a player should be warmed-up and ready to start daily practice. I consider anything
past my warm-up, daily practice and no longer a warm-up
