Re: Business Analyst (Generalist Consultant)
Dear Sir/Mdm,
I am writing to apply for the position of a Business Analyst at A.T. Kearney. I recently had the
pleasure of speaking with Sam Kothari, a consultant in your Melbourne Office. After speaking with
Sam and learning more about A.T. Kearney and its rich history, I am incredibly excited to be applying
for this role and really feel I would fit in well with A.T. Kearney and excel in this role.
Firstly, throughout my degree I have maintained a high distinction average and earned a position on
the Deans List at the University of Washington. I attribute my academic success to my passion for
learning. Becoming a consultant at A.T. Kearney will allow me to continue learning, with amazing
exposure to high level problems across numerous industries. I was excited to hear that A.T. Kearney
supports MBA programs at leading business schools after only three years. As a highly driven and
ambitious individual, I look forward to the opportunity to take part in this and improve my skillset.
Secondly, I am involved in a range of extracurricular activities where I have developed crucial
communication and teamwork skills. As you will see on my resume, I have worked across three
different committees. Across these committees, I have greatly enjoyed working with diverse groups of
individuals, and have seen the great results such collaboration can deliver. This identified closely with
A.T. Kearneys collaborative nature. In addition, I have a clear understanding of the importance of
forming trusting relationships and am able to develop and maintain them. Many of my key
achievements were earned through close relationships. For example, because of the trust UWA Sports
had in me, I was able to launch exciting programs with the Basketball Club and was recently selected
to sit on the board to select the 2015 scholarship winners. (delete?) I work to maintain these
relationships through a strong work ethic and open and continual communication. I was impressed to
learn that A.T. Kearney was the first management consulting firm to ask clients for feedback in 1988,
and saw similar ingenuity in the recent article by Anne Deering on intimacy in client interaction. It
was also intriguing to learn that Tom Kearney was brought in to be the client point of contact due to
his warm nature. I believe that the aforementioned initiatives and strengths of A.T. Kearney are a true
reflection of the original foundations of the firm.
Finally, with my interpersonal and academic skills, I am able to learn quickly, as demonstrated in my
recent vacation work placement with PwC. Within a three week program, I learned to complete
financial audit tests independently. In addition, this placement provided me with valuable experience
in client interactions. I am able to interact with clients and conduct myself professionally.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to consider my application. A copy of my resume is
enclosed and I would welcome an opportunity to discuss my candidacy with you at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Oon
