FILM ACTIVITY
Introduction
Billy Elliot is a boy who lives with his father, Jackie, and his brother, Tony,
Everington, a small mining town in England. Both his father and his brother are miners,
and are immersed in a long strike that leads them to deplete scarce resources at the
disposal. Billy, much to his regret, practice boxing, a sport instilled by his father, and that
is a tradition not only his family, but also all the people.
However, one day, during your workouts, Billy sees the girls who learn ballet. He
remains a good time looking, and decides to imitate them. The teacher of ballet, Miss
Wilkinson, note in Billy an unusual talent for dance, and encourages him to attend their
classes. But that is not easy in a place like Everington, where it is considered that the boys
must only box or play football, and with such complicated economic situation.
Billy goes more enthusiastic with the ballet, and teaches hidden from his father and
his brother. One day you Billy the opportunity arises of an audition to win a scholarship
at the Royal Ballet, one of the most important dance schools. After much rehearsing with
Miss Wilkinson, Billy can't go to hearing, since he has to attend a trial against his brother,
by damage to a police horse.
One afternoon the father of Billy see your child dancing, and remains puzzled that
what this is capable of doing. From that moment their conservative mentality and Tony,
with respect to the dance, changes. Thus, when Billy has the chance of another hearing in
London, it is his own father, with financial support from all the people, who accompanied
him to the hearing. Billy approves and is selected to be part of the prestigious Royal Ballet
School.
At the end, Billy realizes his dream and is an important work as a principal dancer,
among the applause and the cheers of his family and neighbors.
After seeing the movie the goal is: describe the relevant scene or the characters
evolution during the lm, describe in detail the life-span development topic I believe is
relevant and elaborating on how the selected scene illustrates the principle/theory I have
identied.
The status of identity in which one or a teenager is going to influence their behavior:
the girls and boys in achievement of identity or moratorium tend to show more maturity
and autonomy, who present a foreclosure identity tend to be more conformist and
conventional, while the diffusion of identity is often related to subjects that are distant
and apathetic. Although the commitments made will depend ultimately on the personal
decision, this decision will be conditioned by cultural and family environment factors.
In short, the scenes are closely linked to the theories of James Marcia and Eagly.
The boxing scene shows how Billy is influenced by what her family expects of it. The
boy is forming its own identity, happens to be and do what the society and culture teaches
him, to create their own self-concept. We could say that Billy moves from a mortgaged
identity or a diffuse identity, create their self-identity
In addition Billy confronts all social and cultural stereotypes, you must prove that
the only thing important is to do what you want, what you like. The protagonist teaches
us how it should not exist roles and stereotypes, as men and women can do the same
activities, with more or less difficulty, but that we all are equal and must be true to
ourselves.
