Relationship of planets

Planets are friendly, inimical or neutral to one another.

How to determine which other planets are friendly or inimical to a planet?
Each planet has a moolathrikona sign. Signs 2, 4 5, 8, 9 and 12 from that sign and their
rulers are friendly and others are inimical. If one of the signs is friendly and the other
inimical, then the sign and its ruler become neutral. And if the planet gets exalted in a
sign, it is no more inimical.

Let us explain this with some concrete examples.
Taurus is the Moolathrikona sign of Moon. Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces
are friendly signs. Since Mercury rules Gemini (2) and also Virgo (5), it is friendly to the
luminary. Sun is a friend because Leo is the 4th sign from Taurus. Venus rules the 6th and
the 1st but Moon is exalted in Taurus, so Venus neutral. In the same way, Mars is neutral
since it rules the 7th (inimical) and the 12th (friendly). Jupiter and Saturn are also neutral.
Mercury has Virgo as its moolathrikona sign. According to the rule, Libra, Sagittarius,
Capricorn, Aries, Taurus and Leo are friendly. That means, Venus and Sun are friends.
Mars rules the 3rd and the 8th. So the planet is neutral to the ambassador. Jupiter ruling the
4th and the 7th from Virgo, it becomes a neutral planet to Mercury. Saturn owns the signs

Capricorn and Aquarius, 5th and the 6th signs. Therefore, the dreaded planet becomes
neutral. Moon rules the 11th and hence an enemy.

Temporary relationship
In addition to natural relationship, the planets acquire temporary relationship also. Planets
in the signs 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th from a planets position become friendly and
others are inimical. If we combine both the natural and temporary relation, we will see
that for any planet, there will be athimitra (very friendly), athichattru (very adverse)
and neutral planets. For instance, Jupiter is inimical to Venus. If Venus is in Vigo and
Jupiter in Scorpio, the latter is a temporary friend because the benevolent planet is in
third sign from the planet of arts. So, it is neutral to Venus.

When we study a chart, we should take this factor into account.

Let us find out the relationship other planets bear to Venus in the above chart.

Sun is a natural enemy to Venus. The luminary is in the XII to Venus and becomes a
temporary friend. So Sun is neutral to Venus.
Moon is an enemy too. But the fastest planet is in the 5th from Venus. It is unfriendly to
Venus by rule. Thus, Moon becomes the adhi chatru or a bitter enemy to the planet of
arts.
Mars is neutral to Venus by nature. But being placed in the 4th sign to Venus, the fiery
planet becomes a friend to Venus.
Again, Jupiter is a neutral by nature to the asura guru (head priest of the demons). But
as it transits the 6th sign, it becomes an enemy.
-----------------------------------------------Timing of events-Udu dhasa system
Our sages have advocated several methods for timing of events of which Vimshottari is the one
widely followed. This technique is attributed to the sage Parasara.
The position of Moon at the moment of birth is considered. The ruler of the constellation (Star)
becomes the ruler of the period at birth. Then the other planetary periods follow in the order of
the constellations of the Fixed Zodiac. The arc which the luminary has already traversed is
calculated and the balance at birth is reckoned. The Major (Dhasa) period is again sub divided
into minor periods (Bukti) in the same order and proportion of the major periods. Planets are
allotted different Dhasa periods.

star Anuradha extends from 3-20 to 16-40. Moon is yet to move (16-40) (10-42) = 5-58 =
358. Saturn has 19 years in the Vimshottari (Udu) dhasa system. So 19 x 358/800 = 8.5025 =
8 years 6 months approximately. The balance at birth is Saturn maha dhasa (major period) =
8y - 6m - 0days.
To know the bukthi or sub periods in a dhasa, there is a short cut.
For instance if you want to know the period of Sun bhukthi in Mercury dhasa, multiply their
periods = 6 x 17 = 102. Divide by 10 = 10.2. So it is 10 months and 6 days (2 x 3)

SOLAR AND LUNAR MANSIONS (VEDIC VIEW)

Sun takes 12 months to traverse the zodiac once. So, the ecliptic is divided into 12
equal parts called Signs. Readers will do well to know that the concepts of the
western and the eastern zodiacs are quite different. Vedic astrology talks about
the sidereal zodiac and takes into account the fixed star groups, the

constellations. But the western zodiac is not star based but tropical. The latter
takes into account the actual or apparent positions of planets. Because of the
precession of the equinoxes, the tropical zodiac lags behind the other in the
course of time.
Because a sidereal lunar month consists of 27 days 7 hours, 11 minutes and 3
seconds, which period is approximately equal to 27 days, the zodiac is divided into
27 equal parts named constellations.
Sub Theory
The sign in which the Moon transits at the time of birth is the Janma Rasi (birth
sign) of a person. The constellation (star group) occupied by Moon is the Janma
Nakshatra (birth star) of a person. Each constellation is divided into 9 parts called
subs ruled by planets in the order and proportion in which they are assigned
periods in the Udu Dasa system. Each sub is ruled by a planet, the first always
being ruled by the star lord.
The sub theory was first propounded by the great sage Parasara for timing of
events (Udu Dasa system) based on Moon's position. But later, the renowned
astrologer Professor K S Krishnamurthi employed this theory for all planets and
developed his own unique and novel technique of prediction. He discovered that a
planet offers good or bad results depending on the sub ruler. He was also the first
to say that a planet offers the results of the houses occupied and ruled by its star
ruler more predominantly than the houses occupied and ruled by itself. This is
called the Constellation theory.

There are 27 constellations. Each constellation is subdivided into 9 parts called

subs. Some of the subs extend to two signs. Therefore they are allotted different
numbers. So, the total number of subs is not 243 (27 x 9) but 249.

The Constellation Theory
The constellation theory was first propounded by the late Krishnamurthi, a renowned and
world famous astrologer (I was fortunate to meet him twice, once, in a conference at
Salem, India and a second time at his residence in Chennai, India).
According to KP method, a planet offers the results of his star ruler more profoundly than
itself. We will study this with some example charts.

She is presently in US, a long dreamt dream of hers to visit a foreign country. She is
running Mars major period now. If we note the constellation, it is Makha ruled by Kethu.
Since it happens to be a node, a shadow planet, take its star ruler which is Venus. Venus
is in association with Jupiter ruler of the IX, the house for foreign travel. Moon aspects
Venus from the IX house.
For foreign travel, the XII house should also be considered. Venus is not related to the
XII house or its ruler! But the dasa (Major period) ruler Mars itself is in the XII house!

This man had a very critical time in the year 1976 when he was running Rahu major
period. He was suspended from service and after much struggle reinstated. We will notice
that the node or Moon, its sign ruler, is in no way connected to the X house. But if take
the star ruler, it is Jupiter (in the constellation Punarvasu). The benevolent planet is in
aspect by the malefic Saturn from the X house!

This gentleman lost his house in earthquake in Gujarat, India during Saturn dasa, Saturn
bukthi. Saturn is not connected to the IV house. But its star ruler is Sun. The luminary is
in the same sign with Mercury, the ruler of the IV, house of landed property. Saturn is
also aspecting the scholor and the IV house.

Lesson 8-RP Theory

Ruling Planet Theory:
Example analysis: The query is about marriage. Time of judgement 8-29 pm on Nov 5 at
Bangalore.
Study the table.
Mrigasira (Taurus) is on the ascendant. So lagna star ruler is Mars.
Lagna sign ruler is Venus.
Moon is in Purvabhadra Pada star in Aquarius. So Jupiter and Saturn also become ruling planets.
Day is Saturday. But Saturn is already in the list.
Now, the ruling planets are Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Note that none of these is deposited
in the constellation or sub of Jupiter which is retrograde. In that case we have to eliminate such
planets.
Since Jupiter is in Aries ruled by Mars, a ruling planet, we can conclude that marriage will take
place before May 2012 when the priest of the demigods changes sign. Assuming that it will
happen after this month, the earliest period is when Sun transits Sagittarius owned by Jupiter
between December 15 and January 15. But as generally this month is avoided for marriage by
the Hindus, we can safely say that the wedding bell will ring in the month of Capricorn between
January 5 and Feb 15. To fix the day consider the position of Moon in the same way and for the
time of the day, the ascendant.

We can apply the Ruling Planet theory for timing of events when we judge a query based on the Udu
dasa period!
Note down the ruling planets at the time of judgement of the query. Eliminate those deposited in the
sub or star of retrograde planets (other than the nodes). Consider the Dasa (Major) and Bukti
(Minor) periods. The event will happen when the dasa and bukti period of the ruling planets

operates!
The query When will I get married? was judged at 5-43 pm on 25th Nov 2011 at 77-41 E

Of these Mars is in the sub of Mercury which is retrograde. But since the Dragon's Head Rahu is in
Scorpio, a sign of Mars, we can include the node in the ruling planets.So the effective ruling planets
are Sun, Venus and Saturn instead of the warrior.
Saturn dasa, Rahu bukti will operate from 6th Sep 2012. In that, Kethu (instead of Venus) antara
(sub sub period) will run from 3rd May 2014 and 4th July 2014. The wedding bell will ring during that
period!
