In addition, critical equipment like Hydraulic Systems, Apron Feeders, Motor Control Centres and PLCs are
manufactured and supplied from other specialized units of L&T in Bengaluru & Powai.
L&T is the only company in India equipped with wide ranging capabilities and manufacturing facilities
to design, engineer, manufacture and supply every type of material handling equipment to meet every
kind of challenge ensuring highest quality of deliverables. Covering a land area of 68 acres with a
covered fabrication shop of over 7200 sqm, the Kanchipuram unit is well equipped with 50 t capacity
material handling equipment /10 t and 20 t capacity gantry cranes / mobile cranes to handle weights
upto 100 t / stand by generators.
L&T's only foundry facility is located at Kansbahal and is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art
facilities to manufacture quality castings in steel, alloy iron, SG/ cast iron with intricate geometries and
large tonnages. It covers an area of 11,500 sq.m.

L&T designs and manufactures different type of

custom built conveyors for innumerable material
handling applications with economical budget
ranges.
For projects that demand cost-effective
transportation of bulk material, L&T offers proven
custom-built solutions for carrying bulk cargo
ranging from 5mtpa to a distance of up to 30km.
The overland specialty conveyors are ideally suited
for long distance applications where vertical and
horizontal curves are required.
L&T has the specialized experience and skill to
design and build long distance conveyors under
tough geographical and topographical conditions,
negotiating several high and low radius curves. In
addition, it can significantly reduce the cost of
civil/structural works including installation
charges with its comprehensive engineering
expertise and unmatched construction excellence.
L&T introduced this new technology successfully in
India, when it executed the 17km long overland belt
conveyor for Lafarge to carry lime stone from
Meghalaya to Bangladesh. Considering the terrain,
involvement of horizontal and vertical curves,

international jurisdictions and the logistics, this

project is one of its kind in the world.
The modern mega/ultra mega and super critical
thermal power plants demand handling of coal in
excess of 4000tph. L&T provides cost effective
solutions for meeting the transportation of coal in
large quantities for such power plants without any
difficulty through overland belt conveyor system.
The over land belt conveyer highly reliable,
involving very minimum social / environmental
impact and it is an economic choice considering the
life cycle cost and power consumed.

For long-distance material handling, L&T offers

cable belt conveyor system that is highly reliable.
This is the most proven means of transport over
most rugged and arduous terrain. The conveyor is
well suited for use as a slope belt, overland
conveyor or downhill system.
L&T offers pipe conveyors as the ideal solution
when overland haulage or in-plant conveying is met
with space constraint, tight vertical or horizontal
curve requirements, or the need arises for
protection against weather-related and
environmental issues.

L&T supplied the first Wagon Tippler and Side Arm

Charger in the year 1987 for a coal handling plant
and since then more than 50 such equipment have
been designed, manufactured, erected and
commissioned across the country.

In 1999, L&T designed, manufactured, erected

and commissioned the first ever Mining
Equipment contract for Neyveli Lignite
Corporation for handling lignite and
conditioned ash. Since then, it has designed,
manufactured, supplied and commissioned:

Designed to achieve 25 tips per hour tippling and 37.5t

pulling capacity for 58 loaded wagons, the Hydraulic
Drives for these machines are skillfully designed and
manufactured by L&T Komatsu in Bengaluru.

Paddle Feeders
With its superior in-house design and the technical
knowhow, L&T has developed both hydraulic and
electro-mechanical Paddle Feeders in capacities
ranging from 600tph to 2400tph. These machines
with its highly flexible design make it compatible to
use different belt widths and Track Hopper lengths.
L&T has commissioned more than 60 Paddle Feeders
across the country, largely for Power Plants.

L&Ts in-house expertise and knowledge of installing
Port Handling Equipment from concept to
commissioning extends from design, engineering to
manufacturing and supply of conveying system, ship
unloading and loading equipment, wagon loading
system, management information system and complete
electrical, instrumentation, civil and structural works.
The first Private Port in India was designed,
constructed and commissioned by L&T on BOOT
basis and currently we are setting up the largest
Port facility in the country on the eastern coast.
This 13 berth port is designed to handle 83 million
tonnes of dry bulk, liquid bulk, break bulk and
containerised cargo.
