ESSAY:
Please tell the Scholarship Selection Committee why you wish to be considered for a scholarship by answering
the following questions. This is your opportunity to share your accomplishments and goals with the Committee.
Several scholarships require community service or community involvement please include that information in
your answers. Please answer each question with 4-6 sentences.
1) Explain why you chose your major.

I started taking math at SUNY Ulster, and I found out that I love it. There's math involved in almost
everything and it's amazing to see. I also want to be apart of either teaching people about it, or using it to
better my world. I am excited to be involved in something so essential in our society.

2) What are your career goals?

I haven't decided what I want to do with my Mathematics degree once I get it. Whatever I decide I want to
do, I want to enjoy doing it. I also want to be a help to my community. I hope to encourage others who are
struggling in math and to help them understand it in the exciting way that I see it in.

3) Briefly describe the volunteer work you have done in the past three years, and what you learned.
During the past three years I have help out with a group called Kid Zone, MOPS and Wednesday night
Spaghetti dinner at First Baptist in Kingston. I have learned how to entertain kids while teaching them
about God and useful life lessons. I have also learned how to jump in and help where it's needed, whether
or not I want to. Another thing I've learned is perseverance, whether it's just to hold out until the last plate
is served or pushing on through the year, especially when it gets hard.

4) Briefly describe how you are paying for college and why a scholarship would be helpful to you.

I have a seasonal job with Forsyth Nature Center in Kingston. I need that job to pay for my school bills. A
scholarship would be helpful to me, because my parents are unable to pay for my education, so it's all on
me. If I have a scholarship I won't have to work as much during the semester which would mean that I can
focus on my studies. If I have a scholarship, I hope to not go into debt.
