1. Verify that all of the components are clean and free of foreign material prior to assembly. Inspect all
of the O-ring seals and the components for wear. Replace the O-ring seals and the components, if
necessary.
2. Lubricate all O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

3. Use Tool (G) in order to clean the threads of front axle (18).

bearing cone (25). Install inner roller bearing cone (25) to front axle (18). Use Tool (F) in order to install

7. Install seal ring (30) and ring seal (31) to brake hub (27).

9. Position seal retainer (21) to front wheel (5). Install eight bolts (20) and the washers that hold seal
retainer (21) to front wheel (5).

10. Use Tool (F) in order to install Duo-Cone seal kit (19) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown. Refer
to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Seals - Install".

11. Lower the temperature of inner roller bearing cup (24) to -75 C (-103 F). Install roller bearing cup
(24) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown.

12. Lower the temperature of outer roller bearing cup (23) to -75 C (-103 F). Install outer roller
bearing cup (23) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown.

13. Install Tool (B) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to Tool (B).
Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Position front wheel assembly (5) to front axle (18), as shown. The
weight of front wheel assembly (5) is 699 kg (1540 lb).

14. Install Tool (C) to front axle (18), as shown. Install outer roller bearing cone (17) to front wheel (5),
as shown.

15. Position retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown), as shown. Install four evenly spaced bolts (14)
that hold retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown). Tighten four bolts (14) to a torque of 200 Nm (148
lb ft).
16. Rotate front wheel (5) by two revolutions. Tighten four bolts (14) to a torque of 200 Nm (148 lb ft)
again.
17. Rotate front wheel (5) by two revolutions. Tighten four bolts (14) to a torque of 80 Nm (59 lb ft).

18. Repeat Step 17 two more times.

19. Use Tool (H) in order to measure the distance between retainer (16) and the face of the front axle
(not shown). Repeat this procedure for the remaining hole in retainer (16). Average the two measured
values and record the result.
20. Remove four bolts (14) that hold retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown). Remove retainer (16)
from the front axle (not shown).

21. Use a micrometer in order to measure the thickness of retainer (16). Subtract the measured thickness
of retainer (16) from the final value that was obtained in step 19. Add 0.076 mm (0.003 inch) to the
calculated value in order to determine the necessary thickness of the shims.

22. Install the proper thickness of shims (15) to front axle (18), as shown.

23. Position retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown), as shown. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock
Compound to 14 new bolts (14) prior to installation. Install 13 new bolts (14) that hold retainer (16) to
the front axle (not shown). Remove Tool (C) from the front axle (not shown).

24. Install the remaining new bolt (14) that holds retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown). Tighten 14
new bolts (14) and the washers that hold retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown) to a torque of 250
14 Nm (184 10 lb ft).

25. Install O-ring seal (13) to cover (12).

26. Position cover (12) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound
to 12 bolts (11) prior to installation. Install 12 bolts (11) and the washers that hold cover (12) to front
wheel assembly (5).

27. Position the drain of front wheel (5) above the centerline of front wheel (5). Refill front wheel (5)
with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Front Wheel Oil - Change". The capacity of
front wheel (5) is 23 L (6 US gal).

28. Install magnetic plug (6) and drain plug (7) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown.

29. Release the pressure to parking brake (4). Remove Tooling (A) from parking brake (4).

30. Connect hose assembly (3) to parking brake (4). Position two blocks (1), as shown. Install two bolts
(2) and the washers that hold two blocks (1) to the bracket assembly.

End By:
a. Install the front tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove
and Install".
b. Remove the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) Remove and Install".
