13. Install Tool (B) to front wheel assembly (5), as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to Tool (B).
Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Position front wheel assembly (5) to front axle (18), as shown. The
weight of front wheel assembly (5) is 699 kg (1540 lb).
Illustration 686
14. Install Tool (C) to front axle (18), as shown. Install outer roller bearing cone (17) to front wheel (5),
as shown.
Illustration 687
15. Position retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown), as shown. Install four evenly spaced bolts (14)
that hold retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown). Tighten four bolts (14) to a torque of 200 Nm (148
lb ft).
16. Rotate front wheel (5) by two revolutions. Tighten four bolts (14) to a torque of 200 Nm (148 lb ft)
again.

19. Use Tool (H) in order to measure the distance between retainer (16) and the face of the front axle
(not shown). Repeat this procedure for the remaining hole in retainer (16). Average the two measured
values and record the result.
20. Remove four bolts (14) that hold retainer (16) to the front axle (not shown). Remove retainer (16)
from the front axle (not shown).
Illustration 689
21. Use a micrometer in order to measure the thickness of retainer (16). Subtract the measured thickness
of retainer (16) from the final value that was obtained in step 19. Add 0.076 mm (0.003 inch) to the
calculated value in order to determine the necessary thickness of the shims.
Illustration 690
22. Install the proper thickness of shims (15) to front axle (18), as shown.
