"The Scientist Is Not A Person Who Gives The Right Answers He's One Who Asks The Right Questions."
The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers; he's one who asks the
right questions.
Claude Lvi-Strauss
From a very young age I had an inquisitive mind that led me to find much interest in
science and mathematics. The main idea of questioning realities to explore into
hidden knowledge has been the foundation of education and research. To add fuel
to my interest in science, I joined for a Bachelors degree in one of the core subject
of Engineering Mechanical. My choice of Mechanical Engineering stemmed from
my marvel at the multitude of transformation that this engineering branch has
brought about throughout the world.
My interest in science and mathematics is clearly highlighted by the consistent high
grades that I had achieved throughout my academic life - 89.3% in 10 th and 90.4%
in 12th. The great desire in me to learn more about different technologies along with
relentless hard work enabled me to qualify a competitive entrance examination
conducted by the Government of Kerala and pursue a bachelors degree in
Mechanical Engineering from a reputed college in Trivandrum, under the University
Of Kerala. The comprehensive curriculum of my undergraduate program included
subjects like Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Metallurgy and Material Science,
Thermal Engineering, Theory of Machines, Dynamics of Machinery, Heat and Mass
Transfer, Mechatronics, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Automobile Engineering,
Propulsion Engineering and so on. In addition, I gained knowledge about many
mechanical softwares like AutoCAD, CATIA and ANSYS. I completed my Bachelors
degree with a cumulative GPA of 8.88 out of 10 (First Class with Distinction) and has
been ranked in the top 10 in the university level, along with a 2 nd rank in my college.
I believe that practical knowledge is equally important as the theoretical know how.
Good exposure to well equipped labs during my undergraduate course enabled me
to put my theoretical knowledge into practical use. I have a habit of identifying real
life applications with the concepts that I come across my course books. This helped
me greatly during the project in my under graduation. My last semester project
work which spanned for 3 months was done at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
(VSSC) which is a part of the renowned Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
It dealt with an investigation into response of a cable supported hose system
stabilized by a counter weight. One of the practical applications of our project
included the analysis of the structural stability of cooling system used at Satellite
Launch Pads (SLP) of ISRO. It was a great joy for me when I got to be among the
chosen few teams to do an academic project in VSSC. Being a member of the 4
member project team enabled me to learn how to work together with a unified goal.
During the project work I was able to develop many skills like sharing of ideas,
coordinating with other team members effort etc. Moreover it gave me a sound
technical understanding regarding design and analysis of various structures.
