INTRODUCTION
Secondary education is a crucial stage for the children as it prepares
them for higher education and also for the world of work. It is very
essential to provide good quality education available, accessible and
affordable to all our children in the age of 14-16 years. To achieve this
there is a need of strengthen secondary school education by providing
oppurtunities to teachers for improving their professional capabilities or
capacities. In majority of schools, untrained teahers are handling
secondary classes. Even the trained teachers are facing lot of challenges
to handle classes at secondary stage of school education especially in
science and maths.
Inorder to concentrate goal oriented shape to the efforts,
there introduce SCERT and NCERT.
NCERT
National Counsel of Educational Research and Training [NCERT] is an
autonomous organization set up in 1961 by the government of Indiato
assist and advise the central and state governments on policies and
programs for qualitative improvement in school education. In addition
to research, development, training, extension, publication and
dissemination activities, the NCERT is an implementation agency for
bilateral cultural exchanges with other countries in field of school
education. The NCERT also interacts and works in collaboration with
delegations and offers various training facilities to educational
personnel from developing countries.
Objectives of NCERT
Undertake, aid , promote and coordinate research in areas
related to school education.
Prepare and publish model textbooks, supplementary
material, newsletters, journals and other related literature.
Organize pre-service and in-service training of teachers.
Develop and disseminate innovative educational techniques
and practices.
Collaborate and network with state educational departments,
universities, NGOs and other educational institutions.
Act as a clearing house for ideas and information in matters
related to school education.
Act as a nodal agency for achieving goals of universalization of
elementary education.
Functions of NCERT
To develop teaching learning materials.
SCERT
State Council for Educational Research and Training [SCERT] is an apex
body, responsible for quality education in the state. The state Institute
of Education (SIE), which functioned as a part of the department of
general education, was converted to form the SCERT,to give a new
thrust and direction to school education.
The SCERT has a programme advisory committee under
the chairmanship of the state education minister. It is an autonomus
body entrusted with planning, implementation and evaluation of all
academis programs from pre-school to higher secondary levels. SCERT is
concerned with academic aspects of school education including
formulation of curriculum, preparation of textbooks, teachers
handbooks and teacher training.
Functions of SCERT
To arrange for an in-service training of teacher educator
working in teacher training institutions.
To provide extension services to teacher training institutions at
all levels.
