Hazard, Solid Earth physics & Himalayan Tectonics, Remote Sensing & GIS, Disasters.
The professors of the department have been awarded with various awards and fellowships like UK commonwealth fellowship, DAAD fellowship to name a few. The department currently has four professors and three assistant professors on its roll.
Through this brochure we would like to thank all our regular recruiters for believing in us and our vision and hope to continue and consolidate the bond that we share.
For our new recruiters, the brochure hopes to serve as a foreword. It helps you explore
Department of Geophysics, Kurukshetra University and gives an insight into how the department manages to produce a bevy of tech-savvy geophysicists year after the other.
We look forward to mark the beginning of another meaningful and lasting relationship.
On that note, we extend our warm and sincere welcome to all, to participate in the recruitment activity at Department of Geophysics, Kurukshetra University.

Academic Programmes
The department of Geophysics, Kurukshetra University offers three year M.Tech. Applied
Geophysics course along with Ph.D. in various related sub fields of Geophysics. The
maximum admission strength of a batch is twenty five (25) and the course curriculum is
based on recent advances in geophysics keeping in mind the industry requirements and
follows a credit based evaluation system. The following are the highlights of the course:

The students undergo Geological/ Geophysical field trainings at various places of geological interest/ organisations like National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI),
Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Oil
India Limited (OIL), Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL), Central Ground
Water Board (CGWB). The students have to submit individual field reports which are
assessed by external examiners.

In order to inculcate the sense of confidence and public speaking each student has to
deliver a total of six power point presentations (seminars) along with a detailed report on the topic of presentation.

In the sixth semester, each student has undergo dissertation work at various E & P
companies like ONGC, MECL, OIL, Reliance industries, CGG VERITAS, Cairn to name a
few and R & D centres like NGRI, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), ISR,
Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIGM), Gujrat Energy Research & Management Institute (GERMI), etc. and submit a dissertation thesis which has to be defended in
front of external examiner.
