The VECTUS Network Station may be located
remotely away from the control room such as at the foyer or
reception counter for paging and announcements. Multiple
Network Stations can be set up anywhere in the building as
long as there is a network connection. Multiple user login
provides individual authorisation access level and priority
setting to manage paging selection collision.

The VECTUS Network Paging Console connects

directly to the network via an Ethernet switch at the Control
Room. It can also be connected anywhere in the network
system without additional cabling, similarly to how a PC
connects to the office computer network. The audio and zone
selection data is digitally transmitted over a single network
cable (Cat 5e), as illustrated by the BLUE line (Network
Transmission).

If conventional source equipment such as the
Digital Source Player, Cassette Player, CD Player or Tuner is
to be made available for use, the VECTUS Network Audio
Insert Unit converts analog audio signal input (as illustrated by
the RED line) into digital audio stream for insertion into the
network.

A Windows based PC is required for the installation

of the VECTUS Network System Manager for system
initialisation and configuration. A user-friendly GUI with
interactive Configuration Wizard guides any first-time user to
configure the system with ease. The program provides time
scheduling, database management, system monitoring, fault
reporting and event logging. Network Stations are able to be
connected to the Network System Manager for control and
monitoring purpose. Password protection allows access only
by authorised personnel and access level according to their
authority.

The use of standard ethernet protocol enables the
use of widely available ethernet switches to provide the
required nodes that connects all the network equipment to the
system. The number of nodes are easily expandable by
cascading multiple switch units together. Maximum cable
distance from a switch port to another is 100 m. The use of
fibre optic allows for longer cabling distance exceeding 100m.

The power amplifiers work with the VECTUS
Network Audio Extract. The module extracts the digital audio
stream addressed to the unit and converts it back to analog for
the amplifier to drive the loudspeakers.

The rest of the power amplifiers are all similarly
connected and expanded via the network switches and ports
within the floors, as long as the distance between switch-toswitch or switch-to-device is not more than 100 m. This
significantly reduces the cabling cost in two ways - (i) Less
cable used as a single cable carries multichannel audio and
data and (ii) Cheaper Cable Cost as the signal is transmitted in
low level, thus does not require heavy gauge cables and the
use of commonly and economically available standard Cat 5e
cable.

For remote paging requirements, the VECTUS
Network Station can be installed on any existing office PC and
connected to the nearest node of the network, thus reducing
cabling cost compared to a conventional system where the
audio and data cables are run back to the control room.
