MY SCHOOL DIARY

FIRST WEEK
TUESDAY, 3rd OF NOVEMBER
Today the regular teacher of the group is ill so a supply teacher has
become.
First of all, she explains the consequences for good or bad behaviour:
Positive behaviour;
Stickers.
Marble in a jar.
Negative behaviour;
Name on the sad face table board.
Visit to the head teacher.

NAMES:

1. SPELLING

Students take their spelling notebooks and copy some words

from a list. Then, they try to write them again without looking at
their spelling.

Students create their own word search with the words they have
written in their notebooks.
When they finish the word search they swap the word search
and the do it.

To change the lesson (while some students are finishing the task) the
teacher starts at the four in a row game on the smart board. They
play girls against boys.
2. MATHS

Teacher writes a number in the middle of the board and some

operation symbols around it. Student have to get the number by
doing those operations.

With their little white boards they practice the same activity in
groups. They use a dice to choose the number, and they all
have to get it. The first who finishes, wins a point.

Students create their own time table poster to review the time
tables.
(with this activity they are working on maths concepts at the
time as they are doing something creative and motivating for
them)

3. LITERACY

Reading: The Pacemaker

Only by knowing the title of the book they are going to read,
students have to predict whats going on in the story.
I predict the story will be about...
They do the same activity after seeing the cover.
I predict the story will be about...

Teacher reads the first chapter of the story and ask questions to
check that the students are paying attention.
How many characters appears in the story? What are their
names?...

4. SCIENCE

To warm up, students fill a sheet with questions such as:

Why science is important?

My favourite science topic is...

I remember that....
I would like to learn...

Then, the teacher plays a video about the Universe

How big is the Universe? The gardian (youtube)
The teacher ask the students some questions about the video
to check if they understood it.
At the end of the day, all together count up the number of
children in the happy face part of the chart and the teacher
gives them a sticker.

WEDNESDAY, 4TH OF NOVEMBER

The principal teacher of the group is still sick so the supply teacher
runs the class again.
Today the morning has begun with 10 minutes individual reading,
while the teacher prepares the resources and materials for the next
lesson.

1. MATHS

The whole class review the time tables with the teacher by
asking each other.
Individually Students do a worksheet in which they have to
break down digits into units.

2. GRAMMAR

The teacher asks about homophones definition. She writes it on

the board and ask students to give some examples of it.
Individually, The students do a work sheet in which the have to
recognize homophones and match them. Tick the correct one or
look for some words in a dictionary.

3. LITERACY

The teacher asks questions to remember tha chapter of the

previous day.
They read the story all together.
Students write a prediction about what they think its going to
happen next.

4. SCIENCE

As a warm up activity, the whole class compare the size of the

planets with the size of some fruits.
They watch a video about planets and the Universe.

5. GOLDEN TIME

During the last 15 minutes of the class students can relax and
do whatever they want. They have free time, so they can
choose to read a book, play with the computer, make a drawing,
...

THURSDAY, 5TH OF NOVEMBER

Today, the official teacher has come back to school.
She asks to the students what they have done during her absence
and explains the plan of the day.
1. GRAMMAR: homophones

Warm up activity, the students play a quiz to review

homophones.
They do a worksheet in which students have to look for
synonyms ok simple words such as: like, nice, anxious...
(With this activity students learn a more complex level of the
language and they increase their vocabulary)

2. MATHS

List of numbers and the students have to look for the

nearest hundreds (100/1000/10000...)
The teacher swaps the students depending on their level
and give them one list of numbers or other.

3. LITERACY

Warm up activity, students do a worksheet called Jumble.

There are some unscramble words that they have to put
in order to create a word.
Poems:
The teacher talks about Roger McGoughs poetry and his
particular style of using the metaphors; metaphor
describing someone in terms of something else.
Then, she reads some of his poems that use elements of
nature to describe people and encourage the students to
do the same.
What You Are

First, describing their selves.

Later, describing someone else from the class.

4. ARTS: planets

Students take a piece of black paper and choose a planet

to draw.
Then, they search on the internet, books,
encyclopaedias ... the characteristics of the chosen planet
and try to draw it following them.
When they finish they have to do a research presenting
their planets. They can use the format they want to: ppt,
word doc., ...

FRIDAY, 6TH OF NOVEMBER

1. P.E.

During the whole morning, students from grades 5 and 6

swap the classes to do P.E.
Three external monitors, from a sport club, come to school in
order to practice different sports and activities with children
(British values)
They divide them into three different groups and each group
does a specific task. Then, the groups rotate so all the
students goe through the three different activities.
Group 1: they do a worksheet about famous British
football players. They also do a word search about
British football teams. And finally, they colour the
uniform of England National team football team.
Group 2: students learn the rules of basketball and
they practise the technique of this sport.
Group 3: they play a basketball match.

2. FRENCH: La Nativite
In peers: they speak about the Native story (what they
know about it)
Students share ideas in big group about the story
(characters, facts, place, ...)
The teacher plays a power point with the story in French.
Students try to identify words that are similar in French
and English. Finally they try to translate the whole text
with the help of the teacher.

3. GOLDEN TIME

On Friday afternoon the whole school has what they called

Golden time. Teachers prepare different workshops in
their classes and around the school and children can go to
the one they choose.
Some of the workshop are: cook, smart board games,
French, sports (rugby, basketball,...), drama...
My collage Teresa and I have prepared A Spanish
workshop and we have taught greetings and numbers
through songs and games.
This kind of activities allows students from different
classes and levels interact between them and know each
other much better. Therefore I think that It is a very
positive way of finishing the week.

SECOND WEEK
MONDAY, 9TH OF NOVEMBER
1. GRAMMAR

Read a story an correct the text by writing capital letters,

punctuation and spelling.
Choose a different end for the story taking care with the
reviewed grammar aspects.

2. MATHS

Fractions worksheet

3. BRITISH VALUES

Video about what British values.

Students share ideas about what a value is and why it is
important for a society to have common values.
Teacher creates a mind map on the board with all the values
that students can name.
Students create an individual poster with different ideas of
the British values (examples, key words, flag, traditions...)

4. LESSON ABOUT MADRID

I present some postcards and students should guess what

we are going to talk about.
I show them a ppt about Madrid (flag, monuments, food,
festivals,...)
Students play who wants to be millionaire about Madrid,
to check if they got all the information given with the
power point.
In groups, The locate and paste some typical monuments
in a map of Madrid (all the monuments are marked with
the shape of it in the map, so they only have to pay
attention to de different figures, cut them and paste them
in the right place.

TUESDAY, 10TH OF NOVEMBER

After one week with 5 and 6 graders I have decided to change the
class and observe a different way of teaching and managing a class.

1. LITERACY

The teacher shows the students four pictures of different

objects and places and ask them to write a description of a
character the imagine and invent from the suggestions of the
pictures. That is, a character that uses the objects an can be
located in the shown place.
Students share with their partners the character they have
created. Then, in the big group, some children explain to the
rest of the class the character of his/her mate.

2. FRENCH

Listen and repeat numbers from 1 to 10 in French.

The teacher divides the class in two groups. Each child has a
number (from one to ten). Every time that she says a
number in French the students have to look for the partner of
the other group and show the number to the teacher.
Game: the two groups have to line up in order (from 1 to 10)
and say them in French. The first that finish will win.

3. MUSIC

Ukulele lesson: Student practice a song with the ukulele

WEDNESDAY, 11TH OF NOVEMBER

1. PSHE: Personal, Social and Health Education

Respect for the past: checking questions. The teacher asks

questions about previous knowledge of the students.
How do we know about past
Students watch a video about archaeologist.
The teacher connects history with respect and creates a
debate; Should we show respect for the past? Why?
Individually, they write in a post it the main reason why they
should show respect and they stick them i a big poster, all
together.

2. MATHS: Angles

Warm up: mental operations with the time tables.

Teacher uses TPR technique to explain the angles (right/
Obtuse/acute).
Students create their own eating angles monster that will
help them to identify the different angles.

They do a worksheet related to angles, depending on their

level.

3. LITERACY: Setting descriptions

Students listen to a story setting on a fair.

The teacher describes what a setting is and ask the
students ideas to describe a fair, not only by describing
objects but also smells, emotions, colours, feelings.... She
creates a mind map with all the ideas.
Students listen to some sound of the fair and, individually,
they describe them in their notebooks.

4. GUIDED READING
The class is divided into different groups and each of them do a
concrete activity related to reading.
Examples: read a story and do a drawing of it, create a comic
from a read story, act a story students have previously red...
The group, that has prepared the performance, shows it to
the rest of the class.

THURSDAY, 12TH OF NOVEMBER

1. P.E.
During the whole morning, students from grades 3 and 4
swap the classes to do P.E.

2. LITERACY: setting description

Students see different pictures of objects from a fair (rides,

food trucks, cotton candy...)
In peers, they have to describe them by using metaphors;
they have to say what they look like, no what they are.
They share some ideas in the big group.
They write a text using some of the metaphors and ideas
they have been talking about.

3. DRAMA LESSON
I have created a drama lesson plan for the 5 and 6 graders in
order to develop and experiment with their body language.

Crazy uses: I place a simple prop (stick, bucket, hop and

ball) in the centre of the circle. Students have to come to
the circle and mime a crazy and different use of the
common use of one of the objects. The rest of the
students will have to guess it.

The haunted room: students Cross the imaginary room

taking into account the characteristics of it given by the
teachers
Instant improvisations: The class is divided into two
groups A and B) start a neutral walk and listen to the
teacher when I say a character for A and other for B.
Students must find a partner from the opposite group and
beging to improvise a piece of drama(turist/tramp)
Human Sculpture: With the given emotion, students
create and sculpture with their bodies that express the
feeling; happiness, anger.

THIRD WEEK
MONDAY, 16TH OF NOVEMBER
1. GRAMMAR

Warm up activity: students make words with the different

letters
Prefixes and suffixes: The teacher writes the definitions of
these two terms on the board and asks the students what
definitions refers to each term.
In big group, students give examples of both of them.
Individually, students do a worksheet to practice the
concepts.

2. LITERACY

The whole class correct a text written on the board

(punctuation, capital letters, spelling...
Read a story and correct the text by writing capital letters,
punctuation and spelling.

3. MATHS

Roman numerals: from 1 to 12, students learn the

different patterns to write and understand the roman
numeral.
They do a worksheet to practice.

Self-correction with the answers on the board.

Plenary: they review the numbers, all together on the
carpet.

4. GOLDEN TIME

This afternoon the whole school has what they called

Golden time. Teachers prepare several workshops in their
classes and around the school and children can go to the
one they choose.
Some of the workshop are: cook, smart board games,
French, sports (rugby, basketball,...), drama...

TUESDAY 17TH OF NOVEMBER

1. LITERACY

Students describe a roman character after seeing four

picture of typical Romans objects.

They do a drawing of the character.

Some of them read the created text to the rest of the
class.
They write a short story, including the character they
have created and other from their mates.

2. PSH

We celebrate the anti-bulling week so dedicate the class

to this topic.
In partners, students discuss what bulling is.
They share the ideas in the big group.
We watch a video about the topic.
Teacher propose a debate with the next question:
Should bullies be punished or should be helped?
Children have to decided if they want to defend once or
another. They form two groups and they have 2 minutes
to prepare their arguments.
(Rules: seat in front of your opponent, do not comment
while the opponent is talking, signal to say you want to
ask.
After exposing their positions they have two more minutes
to prepare the last big point for their defend.
At the end of the debate, students can change their minds
and join the other group.

3. GRAMMAR

Speech punctuation; all together make a list on the board

with synonyms of SAID (replied, shouted, whispered,
explained, exclaimed, screamed, gasped,...)
Read a story and change the verb said for the correct
synonym.
Write a short dialogue using the learnt synonyms and
other speech punctuation.

4. LESSON ABOUT SPAIN

My colleague Teresa and I have prepared a lesson about

some important aspects of our country like important
monuments, famous artist, famous sport people, ... for
the students of the 5 and 6 grades. (see Spain lesson
plan)
Students will have to do a project to create a big common
Spanish poster. (see Spain lesson plan)

THURSDAY, 19TH OF NOVEMBER

1. SCIENCE

The teacher shows two pictures of two different dinosaurs:

a big and vegetarian one and a small and carnivore one.
Then ask the student to choose one of them and explain
his /her decision to his/her partner.

Debate: in two groups students defend why is better to be

one or another.

Students write a text with all the ideas taken from the
debate.

2. HISTORY
Brainstorming about why Romans invaded Great Britain.
Students read a text about Roman invasion and underline
the main ideas of it (facts, dates, ...)
Role play: students perform the first and second invasion
of Romans.
They write their own text about the Roman invasion;
When? Why? How? Who?
3. PHONICS : YEAR 1

Sound /r/
Repeat some words with the sound
Read words with the sound.

Review other sounds: teacher points to other sounds and

students reproduce them.
Students read a book specially focused on learnt sound.
They repeat the tricky words.

4. RELIGION

Brainstorming about Diwaly: What is it? From which

religion?...
Students watch a video about Ranha
They do a worksheet answering questions about the
video.
Teacher divides the class in three groups:
1. Paint some god
2. Perform the story of Ranha
3. Put pictures of the story in order and make a poster
Students make a comic of the story.

FRIDAY, 20TH OF NOVEMBER

1. SPANISH LESSON: year 3 and 4
I teach students the numbers from 1 to 10, as they are
doing in French. Through songs and games (see lesson
plan)
2. MATHS

Warm up, All the students stand up. The teachers says the
name of two students and a multiplication the first that
gives the result can carry on standing up, the other has to
sit down. Only one student will win.
The whole class make some multiplications in the little
withe boards. When they finish they have to put it up and
show the result to the teacher.
Individually, they do a worksheet with different digit
multiplications depending on the level.

3. GRAMMAR

Speech punctuation; all together make a list on the board
