Summary of Service Activities

Student Advising and Tutoring
Ms. Laura Johnson, the OAA Academic Advisor and Tutoring Coordinator, has been instrumental in
assuring that students in the first Biennium do not take Step One until they are well-prepared to pass. This
has helped generate the very positive news for this academic year that 99% of first-time takers passed. She
is expanding her reach now to include Biennium Two students so that we can enhance our school
performance on Step Two. She has become an invaluable member of the team that works to build student
success at all levels, throughout all four years. In academic year 2012-2013, she had approximately 250
student visits for academic advising/counseling. She conducted numerous workshops, re-designed and
managed the Peer Tutor system, and produced a manual on academic advising. She also helped to develop
a manual for the advising system for our partnership with Qassims Unaizah College of Medicine.

National
The following four faculty are serving terms with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) on the
new question-writing teams that will bridge Steps 1, 2, and 3: Drs. Koles, Roman, and Toussaint. (And,
formerly Dr. B. Laurel Elder.)
Dr. Borges served as Program Chair for the 2014 CGEA meeting in March a long year of preparations,
meetings, and reviews.

International
The following faculty and staff have traveled to Saudi Arabia to train, teach, plan, interact, and assist in the
development of the faculty and curriculum programs of Qassim University, Unaizah College of Medicine:
Drs. Marjorie Bowman, Dean Parmelee, Lawrence Prochaska, S. Bruce Binder, Brenda Roman, Laura
Johnson, Sabrina Neeley, Paul Koles, and Gary Onady. These traveled between January 1, 2014 and
December 31, 2014.
In 2014 the Office of Academic Affairs hosted the visitation of the following faculty members from Qassim
Universitys Unaizah College of Medicine for training, planning, and assisting in the development of the
curriculum: Drs. Walaa Ahmed Abdou Fada, Walid Ibrahim Ahmed Wadi, Bassam Ibrahim A. Al Khalifah,
Mohammed Elmuttalut, Fahad Almatham, and Ayman Mohammed Hassan Mousa.
