Nick Miseno Wins NYS Masters

Defeats Mark Scuderi for Second Masters crown

OSWEGO, NY - An exciting,
come-from-behind victory in his
semifinal
match

Ballston Lakes Nick Miseno to
the title and $2,000 first prize at
the 26th New York State Masters
Championship on at Lighthouse

earned Miseno a free entry to the
2017 USBC Masters.
The 47-year-old special education teacher strung four strikes in
a row, from the seventh to 10th
frames, to rally past Bill Hasiotis
of Rochester, 390-385, in the
two-game semis. Then Miseno
went on to post a 409-315 win
over Mark Scuderi, also of
Rochester, in the championship
match.
For whatever reason, I lost my
spare game for a while, Miseno
said, referring to a few open
frames against Hasiotis. But once

In the title match against
Scuderi, Miseno opened with 237
and went on to a 409-315 win
over the high-revving, 27-yearold two-hander who has the 2010
NYS Masters crown to his credit.
Scuderi, who posted 481 and
423 in his previous two matches,
was unable to get untracked in the
final match. I just didnt have it

PBA WORLD CHAMPION GARY FAULKNER JR. VISITS WHITE HOUSE LANES
One of the highest honors any athlete, or anyone for
that matter, can receive is an invitation to the White
House.
Such was the case for 2015 PBA World
Championship winner Gary Faulkner Jr. when he had
the opportunity to visit the White House on Friday,
March 4, and bowl on the White House Lanes located in the Executive Office Building adjacent to the
White House in Washington D.C.
Faulkner received the invitation thanks to U.S. Rep.
Steve Cohen of Memphis who made it possible.
While Faulkner didnt have the opportunity to bowl
with President Barack Obama, he enjoyed nearly two
hours bowling with his mother Wanda, sister, Alex

along with White House and Rep. Cohens staff

members. They were then treated to a behind-thescenes tour of the White House.
Faulkner became the second African American to
win a PBA Tour title when he defeated EJ Tackett,
216-178, in the championship match at the National
Bowling Stadium in Reno in December.
Faulkner is the second bowler in the past few years
to receive an invitation to the White House. Kelly
Kulick, the only woman to win a PBA Tour title when
she won the 2010 Tournament of Champions, earned
an invitation in March of 2010 when she attended an
International Womens Day reception hosted by
President and Mrs. Obama.

Ignite Youth Travelers Play
By Vince Albrecht
OAKLAND, NJ Four of Stan Niemiec YTLs teams
crushed the beleaguered pins with 2400+, an average of better than 200 for the four-player three-game
sets. The session produced sixteen 600s including a
700 and five 650 threesomes to go along with fortythree deuces.
The young bowlers use six venues in the travel league,
but you get only one guess as to where they bowled this
time.
If you said Holiday Bowl, then you did your homework since the house is widely considered as one of the
more bowler-friendly establishments used by the
league. That being said, dont belittle the accomplishments of these skillful youth travelers. Their ability to
read lane conditions and adjust accordingly are primarily the reasons theyre able to produce the huge numbers.
With that impromptu editorial out of the way, lets take
a peek below at those fine scores.
Pace-setting Bowler City III returned to its winning
formula, assaulting the pin deck with a 2451 net threesome to sweep past Holiday I. Bergenfield senior Nick
Reyes opened his afternoon with a ten-strike run for BC
III, but was stymied on his eleventh delivery, resulting
in his leaving the 3-6-10 which he converted to finish
with 287, the sessions best single. Adding games of
184-200, Reyes led his squad with 671 and they followed suit with impressive scores of their own. Derek
Lewandowski 208-207-611, Tiffany Sucero 235-205609 and Gianni Calzadilla 221-560. Holiday Is offense
was sparked by Frank Magyar 237-218-646 and Alex
McGuire 214-213-623.
In other match-ups, Anthony Rizzo flattened the
maples with 221-238-258-717, the days best set,
JonMikal Supero stroked 216-222-615 and Kristen
Kane 195-193 to lead Bowler City I to four of seven
points against Bowler City II, taking the finale in a barnburner, 1036-1019. BC II had standout marks from Matt
Burzynski 255-235-679, Matt Ramos 202-199 and
Margaux Lesser 199.
Hi-Tors Johnny Toscano remained ablaze, firing
278-688, Brandon Smith had 209 and Justin Ramos
201, but the New Yorkers four-match win skein came to
a screeching halt at the hands of a torrid Montvale quartet: Joseph Hammer Mahoney 223-215-630, Henry
Tipping 245-211-626, Matt Russell 244-624 and James
Reagan-Ward 213.
Holiday II, despite being clipped 2962-2901, managed
to snare two close games from Fair Lawn to earn a 4-3
decision. Clearing the lanes were Tom Chamberlain 211200-601, Esteban Garcia a pair of 203s and Michael
Milligan a 189. Fair Lawn put up some hefty numbers
with Steve Plaszky posting 205-234-246-685, Nick Greco
246-617, Madison Perry 215 and Hunter Perry 207.
Rounding out the session, Montville freshman Adam
Gelvan exploded with 258-223-654 and Peter Hancock
added 246 to carry Boonton to a sweep of seven points
from the vacancy.
