Verify whether Customer Satisfaction Program 04B22 has already been performed. If it has not, add 5R5551E & 5R44E Transmission
Additive as directed, close out 04B22 and proceed to Step 2. If 04B22 has been performed, DO NOT install additional Transmission
Additive, proceed directly to Step 2. Installing Transmission Additive will prevent the symptom on solenoids that do not yet exhibit the
condition but will not resolve the condition if it already exists.

Install a pressure gauge into the EPC port to check EPC pressure, using a nipple and a 90 degree fitting (Figure 2).
NOTE
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO VERIFY A SHIFT IS OCCURRING INTO 3RD GEAR, BE AWARE THE RANGER FEATURES TWO (2)
SHIFT STRATEGIES BASED ON THROTTLE POSITION. AT 1/3 THROTTLE OR LESS, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SEQUENCE
WILL BE 1-3-4-5. WHEN THROTTLE POSITION IS GREATER THAN 1/3, THE SHIFT SEQUENCE WILL BE 1-2-3-4-5.

Drive the vehicle at normal operating temperature while monitoring the EPC pressure during shifts. Attempt to perform five (5) upshifts into
3rd gear and five (5) downshifts from 3rd gear. If EPC pressure becomes erratic when the shifting concern is present replace the EPC solenoid
. Refer to the Workshop Manual.

Adjust the transmission fluid to the proper level using only packaged/bottled (not bulk) reformulated MERCON(R) V.
