twin cities. The temperature ranges from 4 C in January to 46
C in June.
Demography
The twin cities (Islamabad-Rawalpindi) have a population of 4.5
million. There is a happy blend of different ethnic communities
including members of foreign missions. Urdu is the lingua

FACT FILE: NBS & CIMA, UK, Sign Agreement for BS (Acc & Fin), July 2013
NUST Business School (NBS) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)
with Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United
Kingdom, the largest professional body of management professionals in the
world having over 200,000 members and students across the globe. This
MoA is first of its kind in Pakistan by which the graduates of BS Accounting
and Finance at NBS would get an exemption of 9 out of 14 papers of CIMA
professional qualification. In addition, CIMA would award a NUST-CIMA
gold medal to the best performing graduate of BS Accounting and Finance
program and would also help the graduates in their job search in local and
foreign markets.
Dr. Noel Tagoe, the Executive Director of CIMA education said that he
was impressed with the kind of infrastructure that NUST has, which is
comparable to any top class university in the world. It is an historic event
for NBS as it brings relevance to our business education, connecting it with

Unique Features
The MS HRM programme offers two different routes to the enrolled students. A 03 credit hour industry practicum which is a
unique component of the MS HRM program at NBS will be optional for students. Those who prefer to enter the industry as HR
professionals can benefit from this component while the students who chose to pursue a career in research or academics may
choose to undertake an elective course instead. The MS HRM degree is a broad-based programme that offers both functional
level (e.g. performance management and recruitment and selection) and broader-thematic level (strategic / international HRM
and Seminar in HRM) courses. The aim is to cultivate both breadth and depth in the knowledge base of the students. The
broader-thematic courses will enhance the prospects of our prospective graduates to seek jobs in the international market
and the functional level courses will appeal to the returning who are currently performing specialist jobs in HR functions of
organizations but do not possess the relevant qualifications.
Associated Careers
Graduates with an MS HRM degree will, as HR specialists, be able to effectively propose and implement home-grown solutions to the HR
problems of our domestic industry. They will be able to attract a host of jobs in the industry including management, advisory and specialist
level positions. These include but are not limited to managing core HR functions such as staffing, T&D, designing and managing pay
structures, understating industrial relations through labour laws, personnel administration and career development specialists. In addition,
the breadth of courses offered, the industry practicum and exposure to latest international research in the area will adequately prepare
them to compete in the international labour market.

Collaborative Research
Collaborative research between institutions requires a forum
for the researchers to interact with one another. Such
interaction was long envisaged between NBS faculty and the
staff of wide-ranging public, private or multilateral institutions.
NPPRC now takes care of this need by providing the required
base for cooperating and coordinating with external
stakeholders.

The Department of Behavioral Science (DBS) was created in response to the need for an interdisciplinary training program
at NUST. The field of Behavioral Sciences aims at understanding how human beings think and behave as individuals in
different ecological and socio-cultural settings. The core disciplines that contribute to Behavioral Science include Psychology,
Anthropology, and Sociology, but many other disciplines also play an important role, such as the behavioral aspects of biology,
economics, geography, law and political science.
At present, we are exploring how we can create a bridge between field of Behavioral Sciences and other disciplines at
NUST, therefore inputs from field of Behavioral Sciences can be used to maximize outputs from other fields like Mechanical
Engineering, Information Technology, Medical Sciences, Media Sciences, Art and Architecture. The interdisciplinary research
and practice can be one way to achieve the objectives, however, there is lot more needed to be done to enable scientists
and practitioners from different disciplines to learn from each others languages, attend the resonances that separate their
sciences, and develop new conceptual frameworks across their disciplinary boundaries. The Department of Behavioral Sciences
(DBS) at NUST understands its importance and looks forward to find ways for continuous improvement in specialized courses,
interdisciplinary research activities and publications. The aim is to build a learning community that invites students and scholars
from different disciplines and work on collaborative projects to make valuable contributions for the community at large.
MS in Clinical Psychology
The Department of Behavioral Sciences currently offers post graduate program in Clinical Psychology with an aspiration to
enhance expertise of existing and future psychologist through a curriculum that integrates scientific knowledge with professional
skills and attitudes necessary to function both in academic and applied setting.
The program at DBS NUST focuses on both specialized individual care and community approach to equip the graduating trainees
in both clinical and community settings. The rationale of the program is to bridge the gap between academia and services by
offering training in Clinical Psychology to produce professionals who can work with the spirit of innovation and creativity to
implement evidence based practices in mental health domain.
One distinctive feature of the Department of Behavioral Sciences at NUST is the community mental health orientation i.e. we
plan to offer two tracks of specialization in its MS and PhD training i.e. Clinical and Clinical Community. At DBS, the Clinical track
offers specialization in individual adult and child psycho-diagnostics and assessments; and Clinical Community track would
focus on Interventions in community settings for both behavioral and emotional issues and foster resilience among the at-risk
segments of society. Our focus is on individuals and communities, and the relationship between the two. In addition, mental
health practitioners who graduate from DBS will demonstrate qualities of leadership, professionalism, critical thinking and
empathy. Our goal is to prepare a team of mental health practitioners who are capable enough to establish services and adjunct
facilities for improving mental health of children, adolescents and adults.

Why SADA?
We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.
--Winston Churchill
Starting Afresh
SADA aims to produce the finest architects and designers.
Being a new school, we have the opportunity of starting out
with a fresh approach towards design education. To achieve
this goal, we plan to provide students with a sound and
extensive base of knowledge from their first semester by
introducing the Basics of Design. We believe in learning by
doing. We are one of the very few Pakistani schools with a
studio culture for the first-year foundation course. Our studios
aim at creating an expressive and participatory environment
through slide talks, seminars, guest lectures, practical
assignments, film screenings and workshops. A diverse mixture
of first year assignments attune students to work with a
variety of materials and skills whereas the studio projects
help students discover their individual voice and personal
expression through freedom and creative learning.
An architect is responsible for designing buildings, making
working plans and then often supervising construction. The
field is more related to arts, however, during the process of
designing, architects are in coordination with engineers of
various disciplines.
In totality, the five years provide a progressive, incremental
sequence of design study and application. An emphasis
on 3D visualisation within the first year becomes the most
advantageous link of the Basics of Design to Architectural
Design; the second year design studio, where an introduction
to conceptualising and designing a project is taught. It focuses
on familiarising students to the basics of architecture design,
after they have been put through a rigorous course in the first
and second semesters, which is primarily concerned with form
www.nust.edu.pk
METU Collaboration
The school has established linkages with Middle East Technical
University, Ankara, Turkey for faculty, student transfer besides
training of faculty in various software, history of architecture
and architecture criticism. The first collaborative effort was
accomplished by developing the curriculum of the architecture
school, providing book lists, and a list of equipment for the
model shop.
The Library at present is subscribing to journals from the US,
UK, France and Italy. It is in the process of acquiring books
in the HEC Higher Education Commission booklist and those
used by other international schools. In the first year, it hopes
to acquire 2,000 books and in the next year 3000 more. It
has access to a large number of e-books through the main
library of NUST and databases. Architecture is recognized
by the school as examining processes for the production of
spaces, and places that relate to our emotional and conscious
existence in which a diverse range of human activities
take place. The curriculum deals with it at various levels of
complexity and the school will use every resource to achieve
this aim over ten semesters.
99
Co-curricular Activities
Facilities
Throughout all their courses, students are provided with
carefully selected and compiled reading material that
corresponds to the class in the form of a concise reader. The
computers in the library are equipped with some of the best
architectural e-books for the students along with a wide range
of books about Art Design and Architecture. The computer
lab at SADA with 50 workstations is organised with state-ofthe-art computers and latest 2D and 3D software for all design
fields. There is a multi-purpose hall to seat 200 people. A wood
workshop facilitates the students with their model-making
work.
SADA Blog
SADA is archiving its outstanding works regularly on the blog.
The student blog committee maintains and updates the blog.

Important Courses
The course content has well over 50% of its credits spent in the Architecture Design Studio as the prime learning location. It
covers courses such as History, Landscape, Technical Drawings, Structures and Planning which will provide sound support to the
Architecture Design Studios.
Unique Features
This programme will focus on developing cognitive and conceptual approach of the students towards problem-solving to give
them a sound base in techniques, aesthetics and the science of architecture. The programme recognises that studio teaching
and learning is of paramount importance in creation of a learning environment for Architects. Around this, all the other courses
will be focused and will provide support for it. Architecture deals with interdisciplinary issues from other sources which are
recognised here. The well-equipped library will also encourage the spirit of inquiry in the students. The model-making workshop
will enable them experience three dimensional forms and their manipulation. One of the endeavours of the department is to
provide a place for a practical design studio in which the faculty could practice, and the students could intern, thus bridging the
gap between theory and practice.
Associated Careers
After successful completion of 181 credits of B Arch programme and time spent in internship, the students will be able to secure
jobs in the private or public sectors. The School will help the students in placements after completion of the B Arch programme.
