Uvaeren
Circa -6000 DR
3
Tragedy invaded the glades of Arcorar in the Twelve Nights of Fire, five millennia after the
arrival of the first elf of Elven Court. A star fell from the heavens, tearing across the sky
and crashing upon the center of Uvaeren.s settlements and librariums. The falling star
brought with it a widespread meteor shower, all of which set the trees of western Arcorar
aflame for twelve days. The fires decimated the western forest, splitting Rystall Wood from
Arcorar and clearing a wide gash into the main forest along the direction of the meteor.
Between the impact crater and the fires, the Lorelands of Uvaeren were destroyed beyond
repair. About one-quarter of its people survived and later migrated either to Jhyrennstar or
Semberholme. Steven E Schend Cormanthyr.

The non-gold elf clans of Ilodhar abandon
that realm due to constant harassment by
orcs and ogres. Several clans travel north
to Rystall Wood, while others travel east
to western Arcorar. High Mage Lord
Erthalas leads three clans south, across
The Saddle and deep into the primeval
wilderness of Arcorar. After 10 years of
nomadic wandering, the scouts of the clan
are lead to a small bird filled lake, The
Moonlight Mere where Lord Erthalas is
met by an avatar of Sehanine and
instructed to settle down and build a new
city of knowledge and peace.

Lord Erthalas and his wife are blessed by
the arrival of their twelfth child, a son
they name Valaer. Within a few short
decades, this precocious prodigy has
become a mage of tremendous skill and
power. In his 90th year he sporadically
casts a high magic ritual of solitude
without any apparent training.
A
previously unknown birthmark appears
upon his forehead glowing with piercing
silver light.

Coronal Gildoraen orders the Grand
Library Caverns sealed and begins
discussing the possibilities left open to an
increasingly isolationist council of elders.
The option to abandon the city is
discussed openly amongst the common
folk and by several families of Moon and
Green Elves but out-rightly rejected by the
more stiff necked Gold Elf clans. Several
Lore Masters and High Mage circles begin
shifting their base of operations and
considerable troves of lore and magic to
the more secure libraries and vaults of
Braceldaur.

Start of the Second Rysar of Uvaeren
begins when the aged Lord Erthalas is
killed whilst attempiting to cast his 5th
high magic ritual within the same month
trying to push the boundaries of magical
research. Against all established protocols
the Council of Lore Lords elects Sehanines
Chosen One, Prince Valaer Rivleam as the
next Coronal of Uvaeren.
-7609 DR
Despite the increasingly vocal demands to
abandon the city and save its many
priceless treasures, the dogmatic stance
by the Coronal and her advisory council
infuriates many lesser Moon and Gold Elf
nobles. One in particular, the High Mage
Oluvaera Mistriven decides to take things
into her own hands. During the abortive
coup the Coronal, most of the elder
matriarchs and High Mage Oluvaera are
slain in a cataclysmic explosion that
demolishes much of the Palace of Dreams.
The surviving senior nobles elect a more
moderate thinking ruler, the Songknight,
Paerisia Irithyl who immediately orders
the cataloguing and securing of Ilodhars

Lady Paerisia orders the people to begin a
full evacuation of the city. The last od the
original Gold Elf families choose to stay
and defend their holdings. As if to
emphasise the point trying to be made by
the Coronal, a large migrating horde of
goblins manages to slip into the tunnels
and basements of the abandoned parts of
the city, setting many fires before they are
finally routed. Lady Paerisia and many
lesser priests and mages are killed saving
the city from being consumed in a
growing conflagration. The Duskblade
Phormloan Haladar becomes the citys
Araegisses in the absence of a coronal or
rulers council. He immediately orders the
rebuilding of some of the citys key strong
points whilst at the same time ordering
those not capable of defending
themselves be sent east to Uvaeren.

Unusually heavy spring rains pour flood
waters down the River Verire sweeping
away dozens of bankside settlements.
The floods sweep into the Moon Mere
flood plain, causing it to break its banks
and flow on through the city streets. In
response the local elementalists harness
the powers of the river to clear up the
flood waters and guarantee that such a
natural event would ever trouble the city
again.

The city proper was filled with meandering tree and statue lined boulevards, with stately
halls, towers, villas and tree homes overlooking sweeping parks and flower filled gardens.
Wildlife of all descriptions were happy to wander the many avenues and paths; dear, elk,
black, moon and sun bears, lynx, rabbits, and birds of all descriptions felt at complete ease
within the citys boundary. The citys non-violent nature also encouraged a large population
of pixies, brownies, sprites and other mischievous spirits to call Uvaeren home. Despite the
constant pranks and small scale disruptions that occurred on a daily basis the People of the
city welcomed the free spirited vitality the fey folk brought.
The heart of the city was the Rainbow Palace, a repository of Lore rivalled only by Intervars
Librarium. Grown from glittering theurcrystal sown through with gems of a hundred
sparkling hues, the palaces many glittering towers shone night and day with shimmering
faerie fire. At night the radiance of the palace would light the entire mere, but on summer
nights at the time of the full moon, the lights would de dimmed so that the stairways to the
moon could form. The palace had its own mantle that protected both its structural integrity
and all the lore contained within. During the destruction of the realm it was here that the
Sharn appeared to rescue not only the lore wardens and their students but also much of the
lore contained in the vaults beneath the Palace. What happened to the lore the Sharn
collected has never been revealed, but when the palace was finally consumed by the fires,
its extensive vaults were all but empty.
Intevars Librarium
Spreading over several hides of land both above and below ground, Intervars Library as it
has come to be known takes 35 years to complete, has 27 halls, 19 vaults, a dozen
academies and schools, runs to at least 1000 feet below the ground and has the support
facilities for nearly 5000 staff and students. The calls goes out for lore to be gathered from
all the great libraries of Elfdom (and beyond) and as each new scrap of lore is gathered, a
copy is sent to the vaults of both Ilodhar and Braceldaur as a surety against possible
disaster. (A third repository is located off world on the far side of Selune linked to the
Librarium via a carefully hidden and guarded gate.)
Ashvael
Located at the heart of the vale, this small village of orchardists, silk growers and farmers
sits astride a deep gorge some 500 yards long and almost as many deep. The village proper
exists within, across and above the gorge in spacious caverns, timber halls and tree homes.
Located at the bottom of this dry gorge are the remains of a giant, demonic looking statue.
Just who or what the glaive wielding giant with the bulbous red eye and jutting yellow fangs
represents, is a mystery to all but the few elves of the region who have travelled to the
islands of Wa. The gorge itself is criss-crossed with silk rope and timber bridges and ladders
that, like a spiders web link the many levels of this narrow, vertical village. The people here
are a mixture of Green and Moon Elves with the few Forest Gnomes scattered amongst the
tree roots of the forest giants that line the gorge. The area around the village is filled with
orchards, vineyards, bee hives, mulberry bushes thick with cocoons, and vegetable and herb
gardens if infinite variety. The climate around the gorge is much warmer than the
surrounding lands thanks to the continuous flow of warm volcanic air that flows up from the
12
seam of super heated rocks some 10000 feet below. This makes it possible for the local
villagers to grow food stuff that would not normally survive the harsh winter frosts of this
region.
Maelorynn
A magical place of roaring cataracts, silky mists and fireflies, the village of Maelorynn
overlooks the Seharael Falls, a series of small waterfalls that pour over a steep, fern and
orchard filled cliff that is home to swarms of sprites and is literally aglow with fire-flies in
summer. This Green Elf tree town of towering oak trees is linked via a series of rope
ladders and bridges. The whole area is considered sacred to Solonor and Hanali and the
locals are quite proactive in their protection of the sight. Behind the largest fall is a small
cavern that on moonlit nights becomes a oneway gate to Hanalis realm in Arvandor. How
and why this gate is here is known only to the priests and druids who guard the falls. It is
said however that both Elf deities will appear through the gate to defend the people if ever
they are threatened. Known to only a few, the falls are one of the few places where Hanali
and Solonor can meet without the disapproving eyes of Corellon falling upon them. Just
why the two seek such divine privacy is never discussed and it is forbidden to do so within
the bounds of the community itself.
Talytholme
The seven ringed citadel of Talytholme, with its 21 interlinked black granite towers and
central keep is home to a mysterious sect of High Magi and Spellsingers dedicated to the
study of the darker sides of High and Song Magic. This shadowy and foreboding place is
filled with teachers, students, researchers and an entire community dedicated to and
supportive of the work done here. Outsiders are unwelcome and visitors few, the intricate
web of spellwebs and mantles that surround the citadel make sure that only the chosen few
make sure of this. Perpetually in misty shadow this twilight land is only tolerated by the
Lore Lords because of its unwavering and implacable loyalty to the Coronal. Necromantic
and shadow aspects of magic are explored and researched; this includes the forbidden
works or the Vyshaan. Agents from Talytholme are to be found throughout the lands
inhabited by the people looking for and hunting down those who would wish to research
and unleash the worst abuses of Vyshaan and Ilythiiri high magic. The vaults of Talytholme
are rumoured to hold many of the horrors unleashed during the first four crown wars
contained within heavily warded and deeply buried dead magic fields. But these are just
rumours...
Pevinscross
When the Elves first came west to Arcorar they came across a community of savage Rock
Gnomes who had fallen to savagery and cannibalism. After the first few Elvish envoys and
scouts failed to return after encounters with these savage smallfolk. What ensued was a
bitter little guerrilla war that saw dozens of unsuspecting elves and their animals end up on
the dinner tables of the subterranean bone crunchers. Led by the demonic gnome
halfbreed, Pevin Skullsmasher, the deranged rock gnomes were eventually wiped out and
Pevin brought to heel in a mighty battle with Green Elf rangers deep beneath the clearing in
13
which Pevinscross now stands. The current village surrounds are large burial mound that
contains the ashes of the more than 500 elves who died in the dirty little war. Atop this
grass and flower covered mound is a menhir raised up to commemorate the fallen. This
granite pillar stands 12 feet high and is covered in highly detailed pictographs and Miyeratan
glyphs.
Moonspire Cathedral.
The most awe inspiring temple to the Moon Maiden ever raised east of Mhilamniir, the
Moonspire was raised to mark the spot where the Lady herself, along with the three other
Ladies of the Moon danced at moonrise, on the evening the Elven Court was proclaimed. A
bubbling spring of sparkling, crystal clear water rose upon the sight and formed a small
moonpool which is now located at the center of the temple. This most holy of sites is
frequented by pilgrims from all across Faerun by followers of Sehanine, Selune, Eilistraee
and another masked lady whose name is known only to her followers. The temple and its
surrounding community of priests and lay worshippers number more than 1000 beings and
the pilgrim road brings much wealth and the sharing of knowledge from all across the globe.
The village of moonspire boasts several hostleries, a concert hall, an observatory, a hospital,
vintners hall, a school and the largest ecclesiastical and genealogical library outside of
Illefarn. Its burial vaults are said to be guarded by baelorn priests of the various gods whose
servants dwell here and the records kept here are often engraved onto nearly indestructible
sheets of mithrantine and stored in magically protected vaults deep beneath the crypts and
guarded by their occupants.
14
Briarwood
A merry little settlement of tree dweeling Green and Moon Elf fisher folk, the community of
Briarwood saddles the wide and deep, fish and oyster filled pools of the river hereabouts.
The peace loving people here are more than ready to defend themselves with spear, bow,
net or sling. There are no ground dwellings here but many leaf boats and boat sheds along
with the accompanying fishnet and traps are found all along both sides of the river for at
least a mile in both directions. Freshwater pearls and pearl shell are major products much
sought after by Gold and Moon Elf merchants from Uvaeren who eagerly come here to
trade bringing with them those items used by the Briarfolk but not made here. The local
elementalists control the river levels and currents are have stored in case or emergencies at
least 100 earth, air, and water elementals that they can call upon to help defend the village
whilst the people flee.
15
Moonlight Mere
This shallow, reed lined lake is home to a thriving community of lake house dwelling fisher
folk who make a living fishing and making weave ware from the reeds. Their deftly made
timber and thatch round houses sit upon stilts out within the middle of the lake and are
reached via leafs boats, rafts and small canoes. The people here owe allegiance to the
nobles of Uvaeren but pay their edicts little heed. Waterfowl and fish abound upon this lake
and on summer nights during a full moon when the lakes level is lowest a moonlight
staircase forms upon the sand flats at the in front of Intevars Librarium, a stair that is said
by some to be a gateway to the moon.
Trohiilaern
The extensive tree town of Trohiilaern, a place of dozens on interconnecting tree halls,
homes and flets sit upon a ridge riddled with tombs of powerful wizards, spellblades,
spellsingers and High Magi. The heavily populated village of Duskwoods, Chime Oaks, and
Shadowtop trees looks down upon the Trondillaran College and Library. This large citadel of
soaring towers and a central red granite hall of seven pointed spires, is home to a school of
independent Green Elf spell casters who practice magic that works with and enhances the
power of nature and the elements. The 800 odd teachers and students are ardent
defenders of this northern most Uvaeren outpost and act as guardians for the many
hundreds of tombs that dot the hills hereabouts. The college is famous for the quality of its
spellcasters, the originality of its spells, and the creative majesty of the magical items
produced here. Many of these return to the college with the bodies of their creators and
are often interred beneath Running Rocks, the ridge upon which the tree town sits. Noted
amongst the more powerful items created here are the Seven Rings of Trondilar and the
Ruby Rod of Ilorath.
known for its herds of unicorns and pegasi who come here to breed and raise their young.
Within the woods, necromantic magic simply does not work, whilst spells and powers from
the enchantment school works at double its normal effects and is often permanent
duration. Beings have wandered into this stretch of forest only to emerge years or even
centuries later. The Living Wood is a coursing ground of the High Hunt and frequently plays
host to visits from the nobles and rulers of the Seelie Court. At the north western edge of
the woods sits a bare rock shaped like the top of a great alabaster skull, nearby sits a granite
outcropping, an ancient volcanic plug which sits astride a vast network of lava vents and an
underground stream that emerges nearby. The Dark Elves of Maerymdra sometimes use
this isolated spot as an exit to the surface world, but always with great caution for the fey
spirits of the Seelie Court hold no love for the children of the Spider Queen.
Grove of Darkness
This wild region of killer trees, malevolent spirits, evil treants and strangleweed is the sight
of ancient barrows and lost peoples. The eldritch and ancient trees here date back millennia
17
and are amongst the oldest in all Arcorar. They are also the angriest and hate all two legged
beings equally. The Eldar Treants at the heart of the grove are all powerful druids with long
memories. The outer woods are guarded by Elven rangers and druids who warn others
away from this fey and dangerous place. Several fey mounds can be found within this the
dark heart of western Arcorar, and at least one fey cross road with links to the Unseelie
Court can be found within the gloomy, hate filled woods.
River Verire (adapted from Jorkens of Candlekeep & Elminsters Ecologies by Ed Greenwood)
Flowing east from the Dagger Hills the River Verire cuts the forest roughly in half and is
several hundred yards across, and deep, more than 30' in places. Its banks slope steeply in
most places making crossing and access difficult. As it slowly flows through the ancient elven
woods, parts of its waters constantly runs out into creeks and springs between the ancient
trees and more comes into the river from others. Every spring, the heavy rains have a
chance of causing the river to flood its banks, although the flooding is not severe, but it will
cause hundreds of fish and frogs to become stranded in the muddy river banks. The river
with its heavily wooded banks with the shadowy overhangs of rhododendron and willow has
always been the safest form of natural transportation and there has been always been more
traffic on the river than on the forest paths.

Lore of Light
Lore Storage Devices
Among the more obscure of the legendary library methods of Uvaeren were:
chimes keyed to play certain multiple Elven melodies that gave far more information
than their lyrics ever could (by association of the tunes and the pitch at which the
chimes were set)
a stone mural spanning an open-air temple that shows a massive crowd of armoured
elves walking in a scene of clouds, wind, rustling trees, and waving grass (100
different legends and warnings are there in ancient Elven racial scripts, visible only
under certain lighting conditions or by infravision. Of course, one has to know four
different millennia-dead written languages to pick out the words from a carving of
intricate chain mail links on one figure among hundreds);
a clear, smooth-surfaced crystal spindle as tall as an elf. Its interior was inexplicably
carved seemingly from within with faceted pictographs that change their appearance
and meaning with a shift of light or viewpoint, allowing the full history of a clan to be
placed in plain view but not be revealed to any who did not know how to read such

calling up a listed item causes ancient Elvish script to appear that if able to be read reveals
an detailed description of the original form of the item, a brief history of its creation and
creator, its original purpose and general powers and and within which vault it was originally
stored. A glowing entry reveals that the item is still active and in existance upon Toril, grey
entries let the reader know that the item is either destroyed, no longer magical or hot upon
the planet. The book is apparently indestructible having survived a meteor strike and being
stolen by the Sharn. It is said to lie inside Intevars Tomb, wherever that may be and
whenever it has been stolen, the thieves have been hunted down and slain by watchnorns
and the wraiths of previous thieves who have attempted to steal the book in times past. In
each case the book has reappeared on a restored Intevars Stone Coffin within days of its
theft.
