Thai food has become very popular in Western countries in recent years. Where it was once rare to find Thai restaurants outside of Asia, there are now many Thai restaurants worldwide and Thai ingredients are more widely available in supermarkets. The popularity of Thai cooking is partly due to the variety of dishes that blend influences from neighboring countries like China, India, Burma and Malaysia over Thailand's history. Key ingredients like chillies were adopted from other regions and incorporated into Thai national cuisine, giving it a distinctive regional character blending foreign influences.
