How much would you weigh on different

planets?
Weight is the force on a mass caused by gravity. Weight
is the force that pulls objects down to the surface of a
planet.

Weight = mass x acceleration due to gravity

Weight depends on the mass of an object and the acceleration due to gravity of the planet
itself.
By knowing the mass of something and the value of gravity on a planet, you can work out
the weight of something. How much would you weigh on different planets?

Part A
The gravity of planets compared to Earth is shown in the table below. Complete the table by
calculating the values for gravity, given that Earths gravity has a value of 9.8ms-2.
E.g. calculated planet gravity of mercury = Earths gravity x relative gravity on Mercury
=9.8 x 0.378

Part B
Estimate your mass to the nearest 5kg
My estimated mass is

. (If you dont know, use 60kg)

To calculate your weight on a planet, multiply your mass by the planets gravity.
For example, if your mass is 60kg, to find your weight on Earth:
w=mg
=60 x 9.8
=588N
Complete the following table to calculate your weight on each planet to one decimal place.
