Analysis of questionnaire.

In order to make my music video as interesting and engaging


for the target audience as possible I posted a custom made
questionnaire onto the internet and kindly requested they filled
it out as honestly as possible. After deep analysis of their
audience I am now able to produce my music video to a more
accurate and higher standard. The responses will be analysed
below followed by a description of how I am going to use their
responses to create my video.

Question 1- What is your genre?


We thought that asking the gender of the audience was very
important. Understanding which gender is more interested in
our video idea will allow us to produce a video more to their
interests. The results where as followed:

After conducting this question we become aware that our target


audience was mainly of a male sex. Due to this the music video
will be based on a issue in which steortypically affects Males.

However due to the split being so small the chosen issue of


Homophobic bullying is a choice that will connect on an
emotional and relatable level with both genders.

Question 2- How old are you ?


The age of the target demographic is a very important factor
when making a music video. In order to get a rough idea of the
content in which would be suitable for the video it was essential
to understand how old the majority of our audience would
roughly be.

The above question denotes that the majority of our audience


is of the age of 26-40. As this above the age of 18 the majority
of the audience members will be old enough to be exposed to
images some younger viewers may find distressing. However it
has also been brought to our attention that over a quarter of
the expected viewers are under the age of 16. This a huge
factor we had to consider when devolving a plan for the music
video because of this the level of explicit and violent images we
will use will be held to a minimum. Although it is hard to fully
connect with the audience if some essential footage has to be

withdraw we feel it is essential to make this video suitable for


the younger audience as this is an issue that also effects them.

Question 3- What source of technology do you use to


watch music videos?

This question was asked in order to get an idea of the type of


platforms are used most to watch music videos. We did this to
ensure the target demographic have easy access to our video
and so the video is accessible for everyone.

as iphone or Ipad due to the fact internet access is
need we have used these answers in the internet

After adjusting the answers on the question and sorting the
Other responses into the two other categories i was apparent
that the internet is place where most music videos are

watched. With the rise of social media being so prominent and


with views having such easy access to YouTube it is essential
that the video uses these platforms correctly. Although music
channels such as MTV on the television still receive millions of
viewers a week we feel it is essential to meet the needs of the
consumer who spends a large chunk of their time on their
smart phones or tablets.

Question 4- In your opinion, what makes a good music


video?
We understand that we would receive many different opinions
on this question therefore have put a together a list of the 4
most popular responses and have analysed weather these
could be used in our video and why below:

1) Colour and good choreography are two very important


aspects of any media product. This response made us
ensure we had a strong narrative about the chosen issue
of bullying which the audience can understand. The
lighting will also become a priority as we ensure the
different Low key and Desiderated sets the negativity and
creates a dooming atmosphere for the demographic
2) Creativity is key to ensure the audience are always
engaged with the music video. Fighting scenes in the

music video will ensure that the audience do not find the
music video boring and to much like a documentary
however there will be some scenes such as the one at the
bullies house which may be less creative due to high level
of emotion we expect the audience to feel
3) As this video is addressing a serious issue affecting people
of all ages across the world we feel it would be very
inappropriate to include humour in this video.
4) The priority of this video is to get the audience engaged.

Many of the conventions the audience want in our music and


conventions we also see essential and each of their suggestions
will be prioritized

Question 5- How often do you listen to music?


This question is a generic question to find out whether the
audience members listen to music frequently enough to enjoy
the video. The following results connote this:

As the question above suggests members of the audience


either watch music videos in large quantities or very rarely.
Although there is no set correlation we believe the more people
listen to music the more they are to watch a music video. The
next question assesses this.

Question 6 How often do you watch the music videos


for the songs you are listening to?

This question was asked so we can get a rough idea of the


demand for music videos from our target audience. How often
the demographic watches videos are essential when deciding
what codes and conventions are included.

This question connotes that the audience do not watch music


videos as much as we expected. Due to the fact the majority of
our target audience rarely or never watch music videos it is
essential we use the codes and conventions the audience look
for in music videos in order to make them change their opinion,
also now we know the audience are not as interested as
expected it is essential to make sure the video is a very
professional looking product.

Question 7- Rank these genres in order of ones you like

As this questions suggest the target audiences preferred genre


is HIP HOP followed closely by R&B. This means in correlation to
the other questions our targeted demographic are likely to
listen to RnB frequently and therefore watch the music videos
to our songs. This means that more effort will need to be put
into this music video to ensure it is to the same standard the
target audience are used to seeing in this professional

Question 8- What type of music video do you prefer?

Finding out what type of music video our audience are more
interested in was essential in ensuring the video was produced
to their wants. The more we used the criteria the demographic
wanted the more chance we had of acquiring a greater target
audience therefore increasing revenue

This question shows the large majority of our audience are


interested in a live performance. Many of the demographic
prefer narrative music videos so it is essential to merge the
two in order to give the video both an interesting but educating
and emotional music video.

Question 9- How likely are you to watch a video on


bullying?
This very generic question in which asks the audience weather
they would watch music video on bullying.

This Answer shows that 74% of the audience would watch a


music video on bullying.
