Week 5
Day 1(4th of November 2016)
Apply speaking activity in English class It was the fifth and the last week in teaching practice, As usual, I met the MST and students. On this particular day I used a powerful technique to attract students attention, I gave students chances to talk and discuss with her by preparing open-ended question cards. For example, some questions were like "from your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the internet? It was fabulous because students were engaged and participated. Also, this technique will motivate students to speak because they will have a chance to express their opinions, justify their reasons, and it is more fun for students than a textbook full of questions. Also, will widen their language because they will revise words from their memory, select words and create their sentences. As a result, they will understand language function and will convey their message. Finally, it will increase communication skills among students and teacher , particularly when they will talk and discuss their topics with the teacher and students, increasing communication skills is very important because it helps students to express their selves and share their ideas "speaking should improve students' communicative skills, because, only in that way, students can express themselves and learn how to follow the social and cultural rules appropriate in each communicative circumstance" (Hayriye). As a result, I will use this activity in teaching practice and in the future Day 2(5th of November 2016) Visit Sharjah book fair with students. In this particular day, I went with my lovely students to Sharjah book fair. I was helping the teachers to get the students organized and kept my eye on them. The place was fabulous; it has various books, spectacular storybooks, and amazing magazine. On the other hand, Sharjah book fair was crowded, and there were more that thousands of people there, we did not feel free to look at the books. While we were moving, I encouraged students to read and told the benefit of reading. I was happy to go there and it a great place each school should take their students there because reading improves students vocabulary, leads to developing language skills and improves the childrens ability to write well. This is because children learn new words as they read, but also because they unconsciously absorb information as they read about things like how to structure sentences and how to use words and language effectively. Students asked me to help them to choose a perfect book for them to read, I select books for them tried to meet each student need. At 12:00 we returned bake to the school, I sat with students, discussed with them about the trip, what they learned and reading them stories. Even though it was a hard experience, I gained productive knowledge and skills which will help me in the future. Day 3(6h of November 2016) During this week, I was helping my MST to prepare for the volcano experiment; she told me to introduce the steps of the experiment for
students. Then I started to say them what they have to do by reminding
them of rules, show them the instruction clearly and give each group the materials to discover by themselves. I was walking around to check their works, all of the groups were working very hard except one group. When did I ask them why you are not working? They replied: "we did not understand." So, I repeated the instruction again by using simple language, model it for them and then ask them to do it alone, I was monitoring them while doing the experiment. As a result, I learned that each student learned differently than their peers and us as teachers have to meet their needs, abilities and learning styles. I applied that in my differentiation activities, l looked at their abilities and their interest and tried to design activities that attract students to learn. For example, some students need real objects to understand the concept of division, and I provide that for them. Also, other students love working with their peers. Therefore, I designed paired activities for them. Furthermore, from the volcano experiment, I noticed that students understand the lesson easily and better. Also, the one who never participates with the teacher, he becomes more active and joins in. This is clear evidence to emphasize Piagets theory who believed that students learn best when they are doing the work by themselves instead of getting the explanation from adults. As a result, I will do that because constructivism fosters critical thinking and creates active and motivated learners. Day 4(7h of November 2016) Last day at the school Unfortunately, it was the last day in my teaching practice this made me sad .This teaching practice was memorable. I gained lots of information, knowledge and great background about the differences between the government and private school, fabulous techniques to teach students. I hug the students and thank my MST for helping me and supporting me by seeing I am very gratefully for being your students, and I am proud of my teacher, thank you very much for the time we were together, and I learned many useful things, I said a sad farewell and left.
