EXPERIENCE

Age Group: Preschool
Purpose:
Children were out during gross motor activities outdoors. The
leaves have been falling all week and the children have been
thrilled. The children were raking all the leaves into one big pile

until one child decided to sit in the middle of the pile of leaves
and this conversation started:
Child A: Look how big our pile is!
Child B: I wanna jump on top of the pile!
Child A: I am going to sit down in the middle.
Child C: You are like a birdie sitting inside a nest!
Child A: Then I will be the mommy bird
Child B: I will be the daddy bird
Child C: I wanna be a birdie in the nest too!
Then the children asked if they could bring leaves and sticks
back into the classroom so that they could make their own nests

1. Allow the children to gather their own leaves and
materials from outside.
2. Set-up the table so that materials are accessible to all the
children and the environment is set up so that they can
read the cues.
3. Allow children to help set-up the space, and choose
what materials to put on the table.
4. Mix the glue and add food coloring to further the
creative experience for the children
5. When the children start creating their nests, give the
children the eggs.
