ABOUT THE BUSINESS EXPOSURE

Business exposure is a very essential subject for studying Business. When we talk about
exposure we understand and try to search different things related to the business. It means
different things to different people. When we think about exposure we take it to be an asset that
the company has put on the line for egg:-Money, real-estate (capital) or brand equity. It also
helps us to understand that marketing is also involved in it. Industrial exposure is an excellent
medium to collect the information practically about various companies and to gain firsthand
knowledge for the same. Notebooks and textbooks are the medium of imparting knowledge to
the student but it serves to be only theoretical knowledge, but it does not provide the information
practically.

It is only through industrial visits and interaction that we can gain practical knowledge and get
the first hand knowledge. This helps the students to be aware of it and get exposed to the
industrial environment. The students can then correlate the theoretical input with the actual
functioning of organization. Business exposure also creates a platform for the students to interact
with executives from the industries. The students can also explore the career opportunity in their
area of interest. This kind of exposure from the classroom learning to the real situation is called
as Business Exposure. It helps the students practically as well as scientifically understands the
new happening, growth in the industry.

1
IMPORTANCE OF BUSINESS EXPOSURE

In todays fast moving and technologically growing world it becomes very important for us to be
aware of all existing industries. It is the need of our development our potential knowledge about
various industries so that, we gain the practical knowledge. The innovations, patents and various
ideas coming up helps us to keep our self updated to fight the cut throat competition.

2
SCOPE OF BUSINESS EXPOSURE

INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRY

Industry is the production of an economic good or service within an economy. Manufacturing

industries became a key sector of production and labor in European and North American
countries during the industrial revolution, upsetting previous mercantile and federal economics.
This occurred through many successive rapid advances in technologies, such as the production
and steel. Following the industrial revolution perhaps a third of the world's economic output is
derived from manufacturing industries. Many developed countries and many semi - develop
countries (Peoples Republic in China, India) depend significantly on industry. Industries, the
countries they reside in and economics of the countries are inter-link in complex web of inter-
dependence

1. A group of thing that is standardized or identical, as in the case of uniform practices. Court of
law usually has uniform procedures to ensure equal consideration given to both parties.

2. Company: - Specified article or articles of clothing meant to be worn while working uniforms
can be provided or sold to employees or specified by company for employees to find and wear
on their own. They may also be used to demote rank: For e.g. some restaurants have different
uniform for employees of different positions.

5
CLASSIFICATION OF INDUSTRY

Industries can be classified a variety of ways at the top level, industry is often classified in two
sectors: Primary or astrictive, secondary or manufacturing and territory or service. Some authors
add quaternary (knowledge or even quandary culture and research) sector. Overtime, the fraction
of a society of industry within each sector changes

Primary: - This involves the abstraction of resources directly from the earth: This
includes farming, mining, and logging. They do not process the product at all; they send
it off to factories to make a profit.
Secondary: - This group is involved in the processing product from the primary
industries. This includes all factories those that define metals, produce furniture or pack
farm product such as meat.
Territory: - This group is involved in provision of services. They include teachers,
managers and other service providers.
Quaternary: - This group is involved in research of science and technology and other high
level tasks. They include scientists, doctors and lawyers.
Quandary Sector: - Some consider theist to be a branch of quaternary sector called a
quandary sector, which include the highest level of decision making in a society or
economy. This sector includes top executive or officials - in such fields as government,
science, universities, non-profit, culture and media.
There is much other different kind of industries and often organized
into different classes or sectors by a variety of industrial classification. Market based
classification system such as the global industries classification, standard and industry
classification benchmark are used in finance market research. These classification
systems commonly divide industries according to similar function and market and
identified businesses produce in related product. Industries can also be identified by
product, such as chemical industry, petroleum industry, automotive industry, and
electronic industry, meat packing industry, fish industry, software industry, paper
industry, entertainment industry, cultural industry, hospitality industry and poverty
industry.

6
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The industrial revolution was transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about
1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. This transition included going from hand production
method to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production and processes, improved
efficiency of water power, the increasing use of steam power and the development of machines
tools. It also included the change from wood and other befouls to coal. Textile was the dominant
industry of industrial revolution in terms of employment, value of output and capital invested:
The textile industry was also the first to used modern production method.

The industrial revolution marks major turning point in industry; almost every aspect
of the daily life was influence in some way. In particular, average income and population began
to exhibit and precedents sustained growth. Some economists say that major impact of industrial
revolution was standardized the living for the general population and began to increase
consistently for first time in history, although other have said that it didn't began to meaningfully
improve until the late 19th and 20th century. A watt steam engine, the steam engine made of iron
and fuelled primarily by coal, propelled the industrial revolution in Great Britain and world.

The industrial revolution began in Great Britain and spread to west in Europe and
United States within a few decades. The precise start and end of the industrial revolution is still
debated among historical as in the base of economic and social changes GDP per capita was
broadly stable before the industrial revolution and the emergence of modern capitalist economy,
while the industrial revolution began an era of per capita economy growth in capitalist economy.
Economic historical are in agreement that the onset of the industrial revolution is the most
important event in the history of humanity since the domestication of animal, plant and fire.

The first industrial revolution evolved into the second industrial revolution in the
transition year between 1840 to 1870, when technological and economic progress continued with
increasing adoption of steam transport (Steam powered railways, boats and ships) The large scale
manufacture of machines tools and increase in use of machinery in steam power factories.

7
IMPACT OF INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION :-

Industrial revolution in England had a significant impact on Indian

economy. Exports of textile came down as European took over trade by getting conscious
and trade monopoly from Indian rulers. Colonial powers expanded and let the growth of
cities like Bombay and Calcutta. Initially the traders and brokers were eliminated from
the supply chain to control prices after the drying up of credit for traders. Direct contact
was established with the beavers and they were prevented from working for other buyers.
Credit was extended to the beavers along with higher demand for cloth. Clashes began to
take with agents due to delay in supply. The situation was further worsened by the
development of textile mill in Manchester, which completely destroyed the livelihood of
Indian beavers from being an exporters India became an Importer of textile as beaver
could not even get a supply of raw cotton. Let a wealthy Indians invested in industries in
India by setting up factories and mills in different sector. They were handicapped by
British policies to goods imported by England. They were also restricted from trading in
manufactured goods and limited mostly to trading in raw materials. Another impact was
employment of workers in factories and mills and constriction of population in Bombay
and Calcutta. Rest of country was dominated by small scale industry and handicraft
production.

INDIA'S ROLE IN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION :-

8
For the industrial revolution to happen, three things were needed:
1. Capital: - To build the machines and factories.
2. Raw material: - To produce the goods in factories.

3. Market: - To sale the manufacture goods.

All three were needed in large amount for the industrial revolution to kick-off.

1. Capital: - After the industrial revolution started, huge profits is generated could provide
the capital for further industrialization. That is, the process could become self-sustaining.
But, how was the process to begin in first place? Where such a large amount of money
could be got from?
2. Raw Material: - The industrial revolution needed vast amount of raw material at the
cheaper prices. Where were they to be got from?
3. Market: - Finally, a vast captive market was needed to sale manufactured goods at a
handsome profit. Where was it to be found?

The first country to answer these three questions would be the birth place of
industrial revolution. In second half of 18th century, one country did find the answer to these
questions: Britain and it was India.

On 23rd June 1757 the English East India Company defeated Siraj-Ud-Daula, The
Nawab Bengal in battle of plassey. The British does became masters of East India (Bengal,
Bihar, Orissa) - prosperous region with a flourishing agriculture industry and trade.

The East India Company started collecting revenue from this region and sending it to
Britain. This provided the capital. It also started seizing raw cotton from cotton farmers and
sending it to Britain. This provided raw material. Finally, it brought the manufactured textile
from Britain into India - Without any duties or tariff - and sold them here. This was their free
market.

Thus, India provided all the three inebriants of Britain Industrial Revolution: Capital,
raw material and market.

9
INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

A factory, a traditional symbol of industrial development the industrial revolution led to the
development of the factories for large scale production with consequent changes in society.
Originally the factories work, steam power, but late transition to electricity once and electrical
grid was developed. The mechanize assembly line was introduced to assemble part in a
repeatable passion with individual workers performing specific steps during the process. This led
to significant increases in efficiency lowering the cost of the end processes. Later automation
was increasingly used to replace human operators. This process is accelerated with development
of the computer and robot.

10
FORMS OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATION

Introduction

Business Organization, an entity formed for the purpose of carrying on commercial purpose
enterprise such an organization is predicted on system of law governing contract and exchange,
property rights and in-corporation.

Business enterprises customarily pay one of three forms: - Individual

proprietorship, partnership, or limited liability companies (or corporation). In the first form, a
single person holds the entire operation as his personal property, usually managing on a day-to-
day basis. Most businessmen are of this type. The second form, the partnership, may have form
2 to 50 or more members, as in case of large law and accounting firm, brokerages houses and
advertising agencies. This form of business is down by the partners themselves; they may receive
varying shares of profit depending on their investment. Whenever, a member leaves or a new
member is added, the firm must be reconstituted as a new partnership. The third form, the limited
liability company, or corporation, denotes in corporate group of persons considered as legal
entity with property, powers and liabilities separate from those of its members. This type of
company is also legally separate from the individuals who worked for it whether they be
shareholders or employees or both; It can enter into legal relation with them, make contracts with
them and sue and sued by them, most large industrial and commercial organizations are limited
liability companies.

11
PRIVATE SECTOR
A. THE SOLE TRADER

The sole trader is the most common form of business ownership and is found in a wide range

Of activities (e.g. window cleaning, plumbing, electrical work, bucking)

No complicated paperwork is required to set up sole trader business. Decisions can be mad
quickly and close contact can be kept with customers and employees. All profit goes to the sole
trader, who also has the satisfaction of building up his or her own business.

You do not have limited liability, and you have to provide all the finance yourself. As a sole
trader you need to be a jack-of-all-trades, and just because you are a good hairdresser does not
necessarily mean you have a head for business strategy.

B. THE PARTNERSHIP

An ordinary partnership can have between two and twenty partners. People in business
partnership can share skills and the workload, and it may be easier to raise the capital needed.
partnership are usually set up by writing out a deed of partnership which is witnessed by a
solicitor and sets out the important details such as how the profit and losses will be shared.
Partnership are particularly common in professional services e.g. accountants, solicitors, vets

C. JOINT HINDU FAMILY

Joint Hindu family business is a distinct type of organization which is unique to India. Even
within India its existence is restricted to only certain parts of the country. In this form of
business ownership or members of a Hindu undivided family do business jointly under the
control of the head of the family who is known as the Karta. The members of the family are
known as coparceners

Advantages

Ease of formation

12
Continuity of operations

Disadvantages

Confined to joint Hindu family

Relatively limited capital

Limited managerial talents

Unlimited liability of the Karta

D. CORPORATE SOCIETY

A company is owned by shareholders who appoint directors to give direction to the business. The
chief executive is the senior official within the company with responsibility for making major
decisions. Specialist managers will be appointed to run the company on behalf of the board. A
company is a legal body in its own right with an existence that is separate in law from its owners.
The company will thus be sued and can sue in its own name.

Shareholder put funds into the company by buying shares. Private companies have Ltd after their
name. They are typically smaller then public companies although some like portakabin and mare
are very large. Shares in a private company can only be bought and sold with permission of the
board of directors. Shareholders have limited liability.

PUBLIC SECTOR:

13
Public sector organizations are owned and owned and controlled by the government (or local
government). They aim to provide public services, often free at the point of delivery e.g. the
NHS. There are particular goods, called merit goods and public goods which cause problems for
the private sector, and so they are often better provided by the public sector.

A.DEPARTMENT ORGANISATION

It was, at one point of time, the prominent form of organization of the public enterprises for two
reasons. First, it was easy for a government to create an enterprise within the organizational
framework of one of its already existing department. Secondly, in the initial stages of
developmental planning, the number f such enterprise with commercial functions was small.

The major characteristics of departmental enterprises are

The enterprise is financed by annual appropriation from the treasury and all or major
share of its revenues are paid into the treasury.
The enterprise is subject to budget accounting and audit controls applicable to other
government actives.

B. Municipal Corporation
Municipal Corporation may be understood in general terms as an autonomous commercials
organization established at governments insistence outside the framework of government
department and company legislations.

It is wholly owned by the state.

It is generally created by, or pursuant to, a special law defining its powers, duties, and
immunities and prescribing the form of the management its relationship to established
departments and ministries.

As a corporate body it is a separate entry for legal purpose and can sue and be sued, enter into
contract and acquired property in its own name.

Except for appropriations to provide capital or to cover losses, a public corporation is usually
independently financed. It is generally exempted from most regulatory and propitiatory status
applicable to expenditure of public fu

C. Statutory Corporation

14
Statutory Corporation is a corporation created by statute. Their precise nature varies by
jurisdiction thus they might be ordinary companies / corporations owned by a government with
or without other shareholders, or they might be a body without shareholders which is controlled
by national or sub-national government to the (in some cases minimal) extent provided for in the
creating legislation.

The main features of Statutory Corporation are explained briefly as under.

Establishment: - A public corporation is established under a special act of parliament or state

Legislature. The act list out details in respect of powers of, privileges and area of activities of the
corporation

Autonomy: - It enjoys autonomous powers in respect of expansion and major administrative

decisions. However, approval of the government may be required in case of major policy
changes.

Objective: - It works on profit objective, and as such activities are commercial in nature.

Decision-Making:- There is quick decision making as compared to departmental form, as it does

not have to consult government officials in respects of decision making.

Administration: - The administration is undertaken by board of directors nominated by the

government.

Answerability: - It is answerable to the parliament as regards to its activities.

Capital Contribution: - Its capital is wholly owned and subscribed by the government. The public
are not the shareholders of this type of organization as compared to that of Government
Company.

COMPANYS PRODUTS

DIES

Pressure die casting in alloy provides rapid production of engineering and other related
components of even or intricate design. The technique becomes important when mass
production is required. Metal is comparably easy to cast and recyclable, therefore,
Aluminum is still the most widely processed metal in the field of die casting for
engineering components such as aeronautic space, defense and automotive applications
etc. It is therefore essential that the optimum casting technique with minimum defects be
adopted to reduce the manufacturing cost of die casting component. Pressure die casting
is primarily affected by the process parameters such as solidification time, molten
temperature, filling time, and injection pressure and plunger velocity.
Hence, the time is reduced with the help of water cooled die. For appropriate spread of
molten material into the die cavity for alloy, higher injection pressure and lower molten
temperature is required. The filling process is completed in short time snap to prevent
metal contamination due to entrapped air.

1. GDC DIE FOR GEAR BOX

Pinnacle dies and moulds one of the leading names in the manufacturing of GDC dies for making
the gear box. They are specialist in making die in different metal like Aluminum, Zink, copper,
magnesium.
Large lot or mass production of small gears of low melting point alloys of Al, Zn,
Cu, Mg etc. are done mainly by die casting. Such reasonably accurate gears are directly or after
little further finishing are used under light load and moderate speeds.

38
2. GDC DIE FOR ALLOY WHEELS.

Numerical simulation was applied to LPDC of aluminum wheel. The filling and solidification
stages were numerically analyzed. Conclusions were drawn as the following:
Study on positions of the molten front in the cavity at different filling time has revealed that
the filling behavior of the LPDC process is stable, which is favorable for the prevention of gas
entrapment at the if lying stage, hence, avoid the formation of gas pores in the casting. The
temperature field investigation indicates that the temperature distribution in this stage is
appropriate, and there is no mixture and cold-shut formed at the top of the rim.
The potential of forming shrinkage defects at the rim/ spoke junctions were predicted, and the
predicted result agrees well with the results obtained by X-ray detection analysis.
Cooling water pipes in both of the side mold and the top mold can reduce the hot spots at
rim/spoke junctions. This led to the decrease of the liquid island volume to a certain extent and
satisfies the practical requirement in production.

97
COMPANY PRODUCT & PROCESS
Gerbera's-:

98
Gerbera is one of the most important cut-flowers, successfully grown under
diferent

Conditions in several areas of the world and meeting the requirements of

various
markets. This success is primarily due to the wide range in color and shape
of the
flower. In the past, all Gerbera's where grown from seed. This changed in the
seventies, when techniques for multiplication with in-vitro became available.
Gerberas thrive on a well-drained, rich, light, neutral or slightly alkaline soil.
They prefer slightly acidic soils. The production of gerberas increases
significantly
in soils with an optimum pH of 6.5, and E.C. (Electrical Conductivity) of less
than 0.1. In tropical and subtropical climate, gerberas are grown in the open,
but in temperate climate, they are protected from frost by cultivating in
greenhouses or polyhouses. A night temperature of 12 deg C was found to be
optimum.

Gerberas can be propagated by both sexual (seed) and asexual (vegetative)

methods. Seed propagation is however, usually unsatisfactory since impurity
of strain produces a great deal of variation. It also requires longer time to
produce flowering plants. Vegetative propagation, on the other hand,
overcomes these problems, and the plants obtained by this method perform
better than those from seeds. Commercial cultivation of gerbera however,
entails tissue culture (or micro propagation), which involves rapid
multiplication of explants by repeated sub culturing and preparation of
divisions for transfer to soil.

Gerbera varieties should be harvested when the 2 outer rows of disk florets
have begun to open, but some cultivars can be harvested later, particularly
those types that close at night. Flowers are harvested by twisting the stems
of near the point of attachment to the rhizome; this is thought to encourage
subsequent flower production. If flower stems are pulled from the ground,
immediately cut 10 cm from the bottom to remove the woody base of the
stem, which does not draw water readily. Place soon after harvest in a
solution containing 40 pap hypochlorite. Make sure that at least one or two
row of disk flowers (tubular flowers in the center of the head) is showing pollen. If
stems were pulled from the ground, cut 10 cm of the bottom to remove the woody
portion and improve water uptake. With well over 300 cultivars in commerce that
vary greatly in vase life, it is important that florists order gerberas by cultivar name.

99
Unfortunately, the large number of cultivars makes it difficult to learn the names of
better cultivars.

Gerberas should be stored at 0-1C; the widely-held opinion that gerberas are
sensitive to chilling injury has not been scientifically substantiated. Generally,
gerberas should not be stored longer than 1 week; even this short storage period
can reduce subsequent vase life.

Most commonly, producers pack individual flowers horizontally in shallow cardboard

containers especially designed to support gerberas. Flower stems are passed
through slits in the bottom of a cardboard tray so that the flower heads face up
showing their colors while the stems pass under the box. Several rows of flowers
can be arranged in each box. The boxes are then hung so that the stems dangle
downward and can be placed in a rehydration solution (hypochlorite is most
commonly used). Afterward, 2 trays of flowers are packed horizontally into a
fiberboard box in such a way that the flowers are facing upward and easily seen,
while the stems are underneath the flower cards.

Fertilizer-:

Gerberas often need little more than a complete liquid fertilizer, given once a
month. Slow-release fertilizers are also efective, but must be applied two to
three times during the growing season. The fertilizer should not contain a
high proportion of ammonia-based nitrogen (anhydrous ammonia,
ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate). Fertilize gerbera with a balanced
fertilizer unless local conditions are creating problematic ph.

100
Iron
Soil pH above 6.2 can cause micronutrients such as iron to become
unavailable to gerbera. When this happens, iron chlorosis often results. The
primary symptom is a gradual yellowing of young plant leaves, leaving green
veins unchanged. Spray the gerbera foliage with chelated iron and switch to
a more acidic fertilizer, such as a 20-10-20.

Calcium and Magnesium

Soil pH below 5.5 can be problematic for gerbera, since it often causes
calcium and magnesium to be bound in the soil. Calcium deficiency causes
blossom end rot and distorted new leaf growth. Apply calcium nitrate to the
gerbera repeatedly in small doses until you begin to see improvement in the
plant's condition.

Magnesium
You don't need a test to see that your plants need magnesium. Magnesium
deficiency causes older gerbera leaves to turn yellow around the edges,
leaving an arrow-shaped green center. This, too, can be treated. Mix about
an ounce of Epsom salts into 5 gallons of water. Apply this solution to your
gerbera bed weekly.
